I am planning a certain animation in Maya where the main (if not only) source of light will be the soft light coming from several light streaks moving around in the scene. Right now, for testing purposes, I am trying nParticles with high incandescence with FG diffuse colour set very very high. That is showing the geometry around to some extent, but the result is super blotchy and not at all presentable. Even at FG accuracy set to 600 the result is not good enough for final production.
Is there some trick I can apply to get good results without high FG? The light streaks are just emitters attached to motion paths. Can I somehow emulate the lighting with direct lights and shadow maps? Please advise.
