View Full Version : character painting: Houseelf Kreacher from Harry Potter

Here is a painting Ive finished today in Photoshop 6. It is the houseelf named Kreacher who serves the family of Sirius Black.
The design is something between the book`s description and the houseelf dobby, which was already shown in the latest movie.
The background was done by taking a still from the first movie(original is shown below) and painting a lot onto it to match the painting style of the character (I almost worked as long on the bg as on the char so I guess its ok to use a real image). Besides I wanted to have the houseelf in an authentic environment of Hogwarts.
So, enough talking - time for the painting

Any crits and comments are very welcome!

A bigger version can be found on my website:

and here is the original photo I used to create the background:

The character looks reaaally great but I don't like the background. No background is better then a crappy one.

What I mean is: the background doesn't match the kreacher detail so it looks odd.

Thanks for the comments so far.
Thanks, nice to hear that the design seems to work.

Yeah I know what youre talking about. I guess it might be the painted DOF. The Wall behind the character is probably too much blurred, especially concerning that the focus is maybe 3 meters away from the camera. Maybe Ill refine the Bg again.
But my interest is mostly on the character itself, as it is my intention to model it in 3D soon. So, any crits regarding the character itself would be very appreciated.
Thanks again.
