View Full Version : how to use the mental ray shaders

i have a big problem, i was taking some tuts on mental ray. and it came accross useing mental ray shaders. i don't have any of them. when i go to add or make a textrure there should be a mental ray tab with the shaders and all that good stuff. i don't have this and i know i have mental ray. how do i get the shaders to work or show up so i can use them?

I've only ever used Maya on Windows.

In your directory:
there should be a Maya.env file. Edit it (or create a new with a texteditor) and add the line:
MAYA_MRFM_SHOW_CUSTOM_SHADERS = 1
That should do it.

What do you mean? Are you still having problem? It works for me.

The info on MentalRay custom shaders are rather spares so youŽll have to search cgtalk and highend3d forums for info.
There are two books: Rendering with Mental Ray and Programming Mental Ray if you want to dig deeper.
