Latest Update: Finished Video: At last (

02-01-2010, 03:14 PM (

So far the concepts are done for the 3 -headed chicken, we do have some props modeled for the lonely farm and storyboards will soon be on the way.

The video will be showing a fake teaser about this spectacular old b-movie á la 50's style starring a chicken evovling into this hideus monster after getting hit in the head by a tiny little glowing comet from outer space.

Lot's of clichés, lot's of drama, hehe.

I'm also entering the Image challenge creating a movie poster about this fake teaser. It's gotten approved by the rest of the team, and they let me have access to designs, characters and plots. Correct creds will be given to everyone who's been involved.

Allright here are the team members so far:

Boba Subin - character modeler
Joakim Palmkvist - rigger/prop modeler/animator
Andreas Andersson - Lighting artist
Andrea Femerstrand - concept artist, storyboard artist
Sofie Trigo Wagner - UV artist

More people will be involved later on, so this list will get updated frequently.

Joakim modeled the windmill this other day. Pretty, pretty.

hey Noukah, (

Your concept is looking very nice. I really liked your three headed chicken. Wish it had six legs, would've made a nice dinner dish for the whole family (for the whole city for your case :p) hehe. Keep up the good works.

03-16-2010, 01:04 PM (

Here's the storyboard we started out with for the story. It was very rough before so I cleaned it up a bit. Hopefully we'll be able to show the layouts soon as well.

Thought that I might share the model sheet of the baby chick.

Luc14no: Thank you! Yes, I tried to apply the same painterly feel as much as possible, much will also depend on how Andreas solves it with the shaders.
digiboxoffice: I'm glad you like it! The animations are currently in the making as we speak, an hopefully I'll be able to let you have a taste on that as well.

03-26-2010, 04:52 PM (

Here's a testrender by Andreas when she's sitting on top of the silo.

03-26-2010, 05:37 PM
I'd lower the camera ange, because now feels like she will fall or slide down. And try to frame it so that mountains would get in to the shot and a little bit of sky.
Render looks qiute noisy, I asume you use bruteforce with lower setting or something like that. What if try lightcache or irradiance map to blur samples?!
Was this particular shot blured in 3d software? I'd suggest blur it in post then you'll get preaty bokeh in the background and no noise.

But overall it's just details, blonds look nice anyway :)
good work

03-26-2010, 10:21 PM
Hi thanks for you input. The camera is animated as a zoom in with a little bit of tilt and this is a frame in the middle of that movement but yes we would have to check the cameras so they work together with all the elements to get a nice composition. The noise is a post effect, looking for a little bit of an older grainier look with some strange blur and some oversaturated colors mixed with low key colours. The image is blured in post but we will have to tune the blur and the noise when we have the whole sequence rendered out.

03-27-2010, 05:22 AM

Looking good. I don't know how whole sequence will look like but I only suggest you to improve camera work, now it moves in unnatural way.
Good luck!

04-12-2010, 03:13 PM
I like the explosion, did you use Maya fluids for it? How did you do the lightning?

04-12-2010, 04:22 PM
yes the explosion is made in maya fluids, there is also some debris flying around from instanced particles but i dont think that is showing :D

The lighting is a spotlight with some decay and then some fill lights on the car etc, rims on the house etc. Used a linear workflow :-)

04-12-2010, 05:35 PM
Looking good. I don't know how whole sequence will look like but I only suggest you to improve camera work, now it moves in unnatural way.

I *think* I know what you mean about the camera on that last shot. But I don't mind if you elaborate a little bit just to make sure :) There's two known issues with the shot, the camera stops before the shot is over, and the background matte isn't tracked right now and it feels like the set is moving, not the camera!

Thanks for the feedback!

04-21-2010, 03:10 AM (

Software: Maya,mental ray,Photoshop

Finally, the final video is up!

Softwares used: Maya, Fusion, Mental Ray, 3dlight and photoshop.

About the movie

Well, the main idea was pretty much as most other people would get when thinking of things that could suit a typical horror Bmovie. We wanted to come up with something really bizarre yet funny, and the idea of a giant mutated chicken(with three heads?!) popped up as we were brainstorming. Definitely something "eadioactive" and including a screaming blonde girl felt like a complete obligation.

And from there, everything started spinning. We decided immediatelythat this should be a complete CG movie having everything being done in 3D.
We used regular pen and paper for early concepts and storyboards, photoshop for everything 2D, turnarounds, moodboards, etc. And last but not least, all the 3D stuff was created in Maya.

We had a great time working on this, so thanks to everyone who worked with us and thanks for following our progress through these months. It's been tough and we barely made it to the finish line, thanks to the guys who managed to stay up and render like crazy yesterday :)

I wanna wish everyone good luck in the contest, and hopefully we'll see you in the next ones in the future.

hello, i can't see the end of your movie ? i'am alone in this case ?

04-21-2010, 01:00 PM
Glad you guys liked it, we had lots of fun doing it. We had to simplify the original plan/script because some key members of the team got paid freelance work and were unable to work on it as much.. All things considering I think all of us are pretty happy with the end result..

hello, i can't see the end of your movie ? i'am alone in this case ?

I havent noticed but the file is just over 100Mb so you might need to let it buffer up properly on the player. Or try downloading the movie instead of streaming it!

04-21-2010, 01:54 PM
ok ok :)
but be careful , i have read on the rules we can't exeed 50mb for uploading :)

04-21-2010, 04:43 PM
FANTASTIC. Every aspect was top notch. I hope Beuda was wrong about the 50MB thing. Mine was 170.

04-21-2010, 04:58 PM
but ...

"Videos need to be encoded with a screen ratio of 4:3, common resolutions would be 640x480 or 320x240. The higher the bitrate you use the more space your animation will require. Keep in mind you are allowed only 50 megs of video files...."

04-21-2010, 05:07 PM
I asked them in the FAQ thread, we'll see if they answer :)

That info you're referring too, is probably for the CGuploader(video files for CGportfolios), which is a different uploader than the one we're using for the contest, in this case - the Challenge uploader. They didn't write anything under the "Rules" section, nor under "Deliverables" about this, and if they really have a limit of 50MB, then many submissions won't make it in the contest.

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for everyone that I'm right :)

04-21-2010, 05:46 PM
Edit: I'm with stupid.

It's a bit unclear but I think you're right. It would be counterproductive if there really was a 50Mb limit :D

04-21-2010, 06:34 PM
Haha - your movie is really funny and a good work too.

04-21-2010, 09:47 PM
