Batman is my favorite dc Comics charater.

08-27-2003, 05:39 PM
very nice work keep it up

08-27-2003, 05:44 PM
oh! sorry i made a mistake....:p

08-27-2003, 06:00 PM

08-27-2003, 06:01 PM
yay :D.. cool and nice shading :D

08-27-2003, 06:33 PM

Thats the best batman render I've ever seen! Exellent work:buttrock:

08-27-2003, 08:40 PM
Hey Mjx,

Let's start by saying that you've created an excellent model.
I have nothing to comment about the model, but the background doesn't seem to match up with the render of Batman.

Batman still has a kind of comic touch to him, while the background is hitting realism.
I would either change the background to a more 'comic-style' look, or change the good old Batsuit to some more matching environment settings.

And maybe add some more detail to the boots, but that's just me. :)

08-27-2003, 10:05 PM
that looks so cool.... gj

08-27-2003, 10:08 PM
I say put him on top of a building with the night-sky showing and the bat-light lighting up the sky. Just my two cents..

08-27-2003, 11:32 PM

but... i do not remember such big ears... i used to know him with tiny ears... :surprised

08-28-2003, 03:49 AM
I smell front page! great stuff dude

08-28-2003, 05:36 AM
Something about the pose doesn't smell quite right. Dunno if its the distribution of weight on both his feet.

Great work dude.

08-28-2003, 06:38 AM
His legs are disproportionate. It would be better to acheive the effect with perspective. But then, I may be wrong, it may be the perspective. But I think I'm right.

08-28-2003, 08:14 AM
Great work dude.

I love how you've given him huge ears and long spikes on his gauntlets. The exaggeration makes it for me.

I hate seein' Batman with puney ears or Spiderman with small eyes.

Well done!:p

08-28-2003, 08:42 AM
great work mjx!! looks very authentic to me

08-28-2003, 11:08 AM

thanks for your reply!! i have fixed my model, and just update the first pic. i adjusted the position of batman's left leg, and add a little details to his boots.

08-28-2003, 11:16 AM
Yeah, good job, nice character modeling and rendering is clean...:)

08-28-2003, 11:32 AM
Very cool rendering. He's not rigged i imagine.

08-28-2003, 11:45 AM
Very good work!
BUT! He needs some kind of bump between his legs. Right now it looks like he has nothing there. :S

But anyways, respect to you man

08-28-2003, 12:07 PM

08-28-2003, 12:39 PM

thank you all again for your reply, your suggestions are very helpful for me:buttrock: .But my english is not good, so i can hardly reply each of you. i' so sorry....

08-28-2003, 12:43 PM
standing model :)

08-28-2003, 01:10 PM
:applause: nice work, I LIKE THE CARTOON LOOK ! KEEP IT UP

08-28-2003, 01:42 PM
thank you , i will :buttrock:

08-28-2003, 03:13 PM
For me theres something special on this model, the flow of lines and how the geometry its laid suggests to me like it was done without struggling, dont know if this is clear, but its like its done soo good that looks easy... :)

Lots of Oriental users here lately, and really damn talented.. ;)

keep it up!

Excellent modelling work, this model is impressive

08-28-2003, 07:30 PM

08-28-2003, 09:02 PM

08-29-2003, 06:21 AM
Ahah, nice work here.
 keep post up more.

08-29-2003, 07:59 AM

THanks for your comments! Just i have updated a new pic for the frist pic . i fixed his pose and some light settings , hope you'll like it , and expect your more comments! thank you! :wavey:

08-29-2003, 10:42 AM
...around the knee-area, there is something wrong (and that makes the proportions there a little, little bit strange, I think)...

...isnt the muscle at the side of the knee a bit too thick, and the drop-shaped-muscle in front of the leg over the knee an idea too high...

...like this it looks that like the muscles from the upper part of the leg do not really 'flow' - through the knee - into the under part...the continuation is not right...

...but these are really very little details and hey, maybe I am completely wrong...

Just my two cents

08-29-2003, 11:32 AM

thank you for your comments . i never learned about anatomy roundly . i only read a book about muscle when i was doing this work. many details are strange for me . But your comment is helpful for me . thanks again.

my english is poor.

08-29-2003, 06:02 PM
:wavey: Hi , guys ! here is a new pic . :wavey:

08-29-2003, 06:08 PM
Wow, great model! The only thing I have to crit (and this really is just a matter of preference) is that I think his ears are too big, too pointy. I never liked that look for Batman, and didn't like the tiny little ones, either. But as I said, that's really just a matter of preference. Nice work nonetheless :)

Corn Dog
08-29-2003, 07:02 PM
Cool.. his legs look rather long.. can you do Deflater Mouse next :)

08-29-2003, 07:19 PM
it's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
and I think the ears make him different from other's batman.

08-29-2003, 07:27 PM
Awesome job man:beer: Batman is also my fave, and you did a great job of putting him together.

08-29-2003, 07:31 PM
really nice job. i like the longer ear things on his head too

08-29-2003, 09:55 PM
Really like your model:thumbsup:

But I find something awkward about his legs. Proportion I guess, lower part is longer thant the upper part Just like Montparnasse said, there's something about the muscle definition in his legs that doesn't look "natural"
Upper body looks really good. Really like the comic book style you gave to his costume.

How long did it take you to make this ??

I didn't know batman were bikini briefs ;)

08-30-2003, 04:59 AM
AMAZING !!!!!!

08-30-2003, 07:20 AM
:) thanks a lot, guys!

The style of long-ear batman is created by Simon Bisley who is one of the famous artists in the world. i'm very worship to him. One day, i read a comic book named " Judgement In Gotham " , painted by Simon Bisley . The batman on this book has long ears and beautiful muscle. COOL , i think. I was attracted by it. So that i made a 3D model of batman to express my favor. :)

08-30-2003, 08:30 AM
Invader Zim: it's about two months to make this pic.

08-30-2003, 08:35 AM
the back wall looks a little blurry, or different resolution then Batman. Still great image, great detail.

08-30-2003, 08:43 AM
oh, because i turned on the "Depth of Field " of the camera

08-30-2003, 11:39 AM
It's really great work, the lightning gives a good mood. It looks like an illustration...
I prefer shorter ears but it's your choice...
I do feel the legs are strange, maybe they're a little too large...

keep the good work! :)

08-30-2003, 12:26 PM

08-30-2003, 12:32 PM
very nice ...dont change a thing with his proportion...it doesnt have to be realistic cause hes a comic character.

I very much like how you gave him large ears :D

Kickass work!!:buttrock:

08-30-2003, 12:38 PM
mjx u are the man.................

but i think u need to work a little more on the clothes.....

08-30-2003, 01:53 PM
It`s WUWU~~~

I hope you will like it ~~~http://www.cgchina.com/cgbbs/attachment.php?s=&postid=54526

08-30-2003, 02:01 PM
Great work!!!!:applause:
You know,I'm a fan of BATMEN.

08-30-2003, 04:25 PM
thank you , i will try my best.

xm-coco: your character is simple but very funny , i like it . do you want to make a short animation with it ?

08-31-2003, 08:58 PM
2 thumbs up

08-31-2003, 09:15 PM
wow, that's a great render. I don't know, but i have the feeling of not using engine render. Have you used a render engine such us brazil, Vray and similars?? it seems that it is scanline.

I like the model, my only critic is the presense of tris in the mesh, if you keep only cuads, the result is far better.

Keep the good work. This is the second thread from chinese users that have impressed me.

08-31-2003, 10:10 PM
just amazing, i love the environment and the model is really cool

09-01-2003, 02:17 AM
As a Batman fan, damn that looks good! When I first loaded the page, I thought it was a painting. You've captured the essence of the comics I used to read. I really like the big ears, which is what you normally see in the comics and not those wimpy cartoons. I think everything looks fine. Considering the "comic" look that's prevalent in your piece, any issues with proportions don't matter to me because in the comics everything is exaggerated anyway.

Now make him move! :-)

09-01-2003, 03:23 AM
thanks for your comments.

The render engine is the defout engine of MAYA. The wireframe pic was renderd with finalrender.
You said is right, but the number of faces of the model will be increased in that way.:)

09-01-2003, 04:20 AM
I hadn't checked back here since my last post and i see with great pleasure that he is rigged!
I stand corrected.

09-01-2003, 04:34 AM
Very Nice Work!

09-01-2003, 04:38 AM
kick ass model. one thing i would critique is the ears are kind too long, but that's just my opinion, must have been what you were going for. Also, the lighting sure doesn't do justice to show how nicely the cape was done. Great job all in all. :buttrock:

09-01-2003, 09:42 AM
Everybody keeps doing the models i wanna do! I was dreaming early this week of modelling the simon bisely batman (I found this great kit), but I haven't had the time....maybe later.

I really like what you've done with this! Great job!

09-01-2003, 09:52 AM
Nice look, cool pose, love the whole feel to the image.

09-01-2003, 11:07 AM
 Very good work. congratulations. I see that the Proportions were prejudiced, perhaps for the chosen angle, and deserve correction.

09-02-2003, 05:06 AM
Very very very nice. Whoo, gotta go look at it again

09-02-2003, 06:03 AM

i'm learning about IK and FK of maya, now. i'll try to make him move.

09-02-2003, 06:29 AM
The batman you used for your inspiration is the one where batman ends up in the judge dredd universe ?? I think I have it somewhere in one of my comic book boxes. Will have to look it up
You must be a big fan of Lobo. You probably know that Simon Bisley now works for the Heavy Metal magazine. Every once in a while he does a story or a cover for the magazine.
See ya

09-02-2003, 04:03 PM

Invader Zim

i admire that you can get the comic books easly. but i can't.

09-02-2003, 10:39 PM
Oh crap, didin't notice you were from china. Sorry dude.
Can't you subscribe to the magazine or they just don't ship to china ?

09-03-2003, 03:26 AM
Invader Zim:
oh. i mean that many comic books from the west ,some like batman and Spawn, can not be found in the bookstor. i can read some thing about them on the magazines but that is not the whole story.

09-03-2003, 06:16 AM
:buttrock:

09-03-2003, 03:52 PM
awesome model, I just wish he had a longer cape. The one he has now looks sort of sshort. Would be more dramatic with a longer cape IMO.

09-03-2003, 04:16 PM
I've put this on the front page and on the CGNetworks gallery. Good stuff!

Only thing that bothers me -- the stone texture looks a little low res, and it stretches on the edges of the Batman logo. Might want to look at that.....

09-03-2003, 04:25 PM
Hey congrats MJX you just landed on spot on the front page of cgnetworks
That will look good on you resume :scream:

About the comic books, It's a shame that you can't get them.

09-03-2003, 04:55 PM
jesus christ the images load slowly. are they on a chinese server? because those are usually not fast according to my experience...

09-03-2003, 05:07 PM
WOW, way to do batman justice. wow, what an amazing model. oi, just wanted to say amazingjob.

09-03-2003, 05:10 PM
It's a great model but could you please fix that pose. Batman would never stand like that. Darker, make him crouch as if he's leering out over the city. Pickup a batman comic and check it out. Your stylized version is great, but fix that pose and you'll have a winner...

09-03-2003, 05:10 PM
KICK @$$ MODEL!:buttrock:

09-03-2003, 05:49 PM
Great interpretation of the character!
I think the utility belt could be beefed up and the cape could be longer.
I have a joker in the works right now. We should team up and have them battle it out!
Check out my version of the joker so far, also in Maya.

09-03-2003, 06:06 PM
OMG !! its the real BATMAN !!

09-03-2003, 06:11 PM
I haven't read "every" single post here so forgive me if what I say is repetitive but I didn't see anybody talk bout the textures. I like the overall look, ears, etc. Kool style. But , just my preference, I don't like the texture on the clothes. Kinda shiney, plastic looking. I like the leather look, with shininess on it too. But it just doesn't look like black leather, or that kinda rubber vinyl material like in the films. Maybe you meant it to be this way...and not be real black in color either. I know the comic versions tend to be more blue in color.

I agree with you and Hey ! where's Robin ?

09-03-2003, 06:32 PM
its taken some work to get this to the front page but it sure does belong there. it should have gone up a long time ago! =) chears

09-03-2003, 06:41 PM
Can't help but wonder what he would look like with a toon render. Hmm...

That is one awe inspiring model. Very very cool!

09-03-2003, 07:03 PM
Well its about time this was put on the front page.
Wicked amazing work man! I can't say it enough.
You rock!:buttrock:

09-03-2003, 07:20 PM
That is class; good work :D

09-03-2003, 07:22 PM
very good work, keep it up, i hope to see more in the future

09-03-2003, 07:37 PM
Thank you guys. Thank you very much......

You all encouraged me so much. I 'll make my work better , and keep it up!

09-03-2003, 07:53 PM
Leather looks like plastic, stone texture to revise, the lower part seems to be a littl to long but except that, really nice work

09-03-2003, 08:19 PM

Overall Composition...Roxico!

Brother, 1 concern...How animation-friendly is this model?

BTW, I'm sure that many will agree with me...This model is better than the Batman one at the beginning of Justice League...

The Justice league 3D character in the intro don't really walk right...

I would love to see a walk and run cycle for this batman...cape whipping around...unreal...!

John Lee
09-03-2003, 08:29 PM
very nice

09-03-2003, 08:52 PM
Wow....Great model and great improvements after the C&C!!
well done!

Have any idea to animate it?

09-03-2003, 10:48 PM
finally u got ur frontpage plug! Congrats! Keep going this way

09-03-2003, 11:25 PM
i like this quite a bit. for me its 1 for the inspiration folder.

the wireframe looks good! i would like to see a few more poses, and maybe fighting with Jermz's Joker character!

09-04-2003, 01:18 AM
great shades of elvis! excellent stuff, comic character brought to lif... err... 3d! super modeling! also very nice to see you rendering him in a more art/comic like style as opposed to all these photorealistic hdri renders, this has so much more style! can't wait to see more from you, keep it UP! (the work I mean...)

09-04-2003, 02:12 AM
Where's Robin ?

09-04-2003, 02:16 AM
Locked up in a cave!

09-04-2003, 02:33 AM
looks very good..but imo its too shinny...or glossy? i dunno..maybe if u tone it down just a bit?

09-04-2003, 03:16 AM
Coolz....great modelling skillz:beer:

09-04-2003, 05:15 AM
oh, i do not make the model of Robin yet.:)

09-04-2003, 07:30 AM
Great JOb,

I also like the versions of batman with beautiful muscles and long ears. Are you going to animate him?

olivier Defaye
09-04-2003, 08:23 AM
nice modeling waiting for an animation
like his big foots

09-04-2003, 09:04 AM
Verrrryyy Nice. The contrast between th realistic background and the comic style of the character is well matched (in my humble opinion). Batman is also my favourite DC character. Look forward to an animation:buttrock: :buttrock: :applause:

09-04-2003, 11:49 AM
Yupiiiiiiiiiiih! That's my photo. How dare you to take my pics while i'm enjoying my nights??
Hey man that's really  :applause:

09-04-2003, 11:52 AM

09-04-2003, 02:00 PM

09-04-2003, 02:40 PM
Cool. I like batman a lot.

Good 3d model in comic style. I mean you have keep the comic style very good.

09-04-2003, 02:41 PM
great stuffs!:applause:

09-04-2003, 03:44 PM
i like it! good job!

09-04-2003, 04:04 PM
Wow! That's brilliant beyond brilliant. How does it look animated?

09-04-2003, 04:07 PM
model is nice, it looks like you cut some corners on the old
trusty utility belt though,
but overall nice work

09-04-2003, 04:23 PM
Awesome model :), the mesh structure is really very nice, showing good form and effecient use of geomatry.
I was making conjunctive piece with batman and penguin and joker, with my friend Loganarts and a few other artists, Heres what we came up with (never really got around to completing them)

Batman by Loganarts

Penguin by me

Great batman, and great work :)

09-04-2003, 04:43 PM
nike: your batman is very distinctive. it's a great work too.

the ears, belt, legs and upper body are all wrong.

the ears look like nothing of the batman suits i've seen.

the legs are out od proportion - sorry all the word went out of my head.

the upper body looks like a body coloured black and made to look like rubber? but it fails and doesn't look like a bat suit. the belt is silly looks like its been painted on later.

overall 5/10 - not front page.

is there only 1 batman?

the one in the old series looked different from the comic books. the ones in the movies changes a lot. there has been a number of different versions of batman. so whos to say he got him right or wrong.?

i give your post a 1/10 ;) ( 1 for effort of typing it )

09-04-2003, 07:20 PM
Really great work . this model really shows off your knowledge of form and your skills with poly's. Im not a great fan of the render style you chose, don't get me wrong it looks extremely professional and you did an amazing job. But I prefer a different style of rendering. I love it and I can't wait to see more.

cg_fan_2003 - :shame: Sorry man, you stand alone.

09-04-2003, 07:34 PM
Ahem... so where's the pic from the first post?

09-04-2003, 11:35 PM
When I saw the small pic on the front page I thought this was a painting. I was really impressed when I opened the thread and saw that it was a 3d model. I love the style you chose, I've always thought the long ears and pointy gauntlet fins looked cool. I'd love to see this character animated, it's really top notch!

Just like the HULK :)

09-08-2003, 06:58 PM
I lik eth emodel but those ears disturb me... way too long... maybe you updated it but I havent read all the posts

09-08-2003, 10:31 PM
well, he likely used a batman drawing by Simon Bisley or Bill Sienkiewicz as reference, since they both have done numerous batman novels and drawing him in this particular style, I for one dig it!

09-08-2003, 10:38 PM
looks good but i dont really like the longer ears

09-09-2003, 11:10 AM

You're the man!

09-10-2003, 08:33 AM
hehe..very cool..i just hmm..its the legs that bother me and his feet look to big ,,i mean wide..but yea one hell of a great character/model
now lets see a robin as good..
heres a nice link for you to show all the peeps that big ears are correct..
cool batman super sculpy (http://www.goregoregore.com/darkhunter.html)

09-10-2003, 12:47 PM
Very nice work here, I'm not a huge fan of the long ears but you give it your personal touch. The pose could've been a bit stronger but it looks good.

You have received the CGtalk choice award .Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! Nice work!

upon receiving this award, it guarantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame (http://gallery.cgtalk.com) - which you are now placed

Great work....that face is fabulous! Maybe you could have given more emphasis on the face...the model is good but I believe Batman is a bit more heavier built...the hips look feminine...and the ears are way too long...you could have put a sleeker belt....that reminds me of a Hawaiian dancer girl! Keep up the good work....the best is yet to come....

I'm with that Wazza dude, the big ears are a great stylistic touch. I would love to hear more about how you approached the materials and shading on his body, I've got a character in the works that I would love to see in that mode.

Very nice work!! There is just one thing that I would retouch... The legs seems very long... His lower leg is almost as tall as his body...

Lovely modeling, and a good pose to show off those muscle structures. I agree it deserves a stronger background though. Great work.:bounce:

I like the wireframe more. The perspective in this shot looks more agressive. And also the legs loogs more proportioned. But it's a great pictue.
