He is right ! The naked female alien ! Amazing !
She is good, but this other stuff is what got me:

01 January 2010, 04:01 AM (

Mmm, I think I'll stick to that theme,( escape from a sort of psycho sect... weird telepatic Guru from outer space) but just not sure yet about the whole thing. Balance mood, ... The face deisgn... Big head in the sky... Suit ....

Anyways, i'll sleep on it.

01 January 2010, 04:20 AM
Antropus: Hey man, truely great to hear that from you. I really appreciate:). Always be a fan of your works, since the first time i touch a vertex. It will be a real challenge for me with you on board. hehe have fun man.

gpepper: Thank man, i'm whatching your thread. Vraiment sympa la mami.

kevindubeau: Hey thank kevin

01 January 2010, 10:42 PM (

Sculpt a first head before retopo. I'll tweak it more on final mesh.

01 January 2010, 11:55 PM
awesome work so far, cant wait to see how this develops, you have a real talent for modeling the human form. kudos.

01 January 2010, 01:10 AM (

01 January 2010, 01:19 AM
Wow man, you amaze me, cant wait to see more dude

01 January 2010, 01:28 AM
This is a great start man. I like the concept too. I can't wait to see those puppies all rendered in full glory :)

01 January 2010, 07:32 AM (

So a head for future sculpt. I try keep it simple to avoid some nasty spike shit in mudbox.

01 January 2010, 07:37 AM
Thank for feedback guys. Yea I hope to get time to bring these puppies to life :D

01 January 2010, 08:00 AM
Beautiful concept.... I looked through your (fantastic) portfolio & I'm actually excited about seeing the finished thing already!

Good (not that you'll need it) luck!

01 January 2010, 08:16 AM
Good start ! Like your concept and your clean wireframe ;)

Can't wait to see more :D

01 January 2010, 08:26 AM
Ya no kidding. I think that's the cleanest, most uniform mesh I've ever seen, apart from the 10x10x10 cube I just made ;)

Good luck with your entry. Looking forward to updates.

01 January 2010, 05:15 AM (

Get some freetime tonight to work a bit on her, hope to get time to work more...

The Plan here is to pose it, and resculpt in details to get the look of a under rubber layer suit on her... that why hand look like glove...

01 January 2010, 05:17 AM
Thank everyone for feelback, always great to read it!;) thank

01 January 2010, 06:08 AM
Love her face. I think her arms look a bit too thick, or heavy. Overall, I think she looks very nice. :buttrock:

01 January 2010, 06:13 AM
Love her face. I think her arms look a bit too thick, or heavy. Overall, I think she looks very nice. :buttrock:

I didn't notice the arms.

Anyway Lookin gOOd!

01 January 2010, 06:17 AM
I didn't notice the arms.

They're those long things on either side of those round things you were staring at. :D

01 January 2010, 06:46 AM
They're those long things on either side of those round things you were staring at. :D

OOH.... You're right!

Thanks Webhead!

01 January 2010, 07:07 AM
Awesome work so far. Face topology looks great. Will you be doing some facial animation along the way? Really amazing anatomy skills. :buttrock:

01 January 2010, 11:50 AM
Very nice work so far.

Here's some quick things I noticed:

To my eye the head appears to small or the torso too big. Generally the torso should be roughly three heads long from the chin down to the crotch for a realistically stylized character. I'd just make the head bigger.

The iliac crest appears to be riding way to high in the front or you have some weird muscle protrusion there on the sides where the obliques are.

I'd widen the shoulders a tad. You might run into trouble with heavy ribcage interpenetration of the arms in a fully relaxed position later if you dont. Try it out with Transpose.

The upper thoracic spine seems to be pushed in a tad too much between the shoulder-blades and the 7th cervical vertebrae is hardly prominent at all.

You already have some nice character going on in the face, but there's something odd about the eyes. I think they are angled up a tad too much or may be sitting too high as a whole.

Why don't you show us some more body pics for more precise crits?

01 January 2010, 06:20 PM
webhead: Your right, i'll fix that in the pose version. thank

Aven99: thank buddy

ravioli_rancher: Actually no, anyways not for this challenge. Thx

TheRazorsEdge: I'm fully agreat with your crit, i 'll check this points when resculpting in the pose version. Going also to post more view. thank man. I'm in mudbox so i don't use transpose. Just going to do a rig in maya.

01 January 2010, 07:05 PM
Damn ...:buttrock:

err....The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

i hate this warning...seriously! :bounce:

Awesome modeling !

01 January 2010, 03:07 PM
Wow..really nice head..and breast sculpt... I do agree about the head being a tad smaller than it should....Overall top form!

02 February 2010, 05:57 AM (

Thank i'm glad you like it guys!

Pose but only few min of tweak. Going to work on anatomy tommorrow. details, suit etc.

02 February 2010, 06:06 AM
She looks great Vimmy! Very promising work. I can't wait to see more!

02 February 2010, 07:47 AM
Thank man, Your entry is going very well, Nice shader so far on your pin-up. Very soft i like it.

02 February 2010, 05:41 PM
Wow! C'est malade!
I really like the poster sketch, really in the mood.
Combined with what I saw your portfolio and I'm sure it's gonna be awesome!

Bon travail!

02 February 2010, 05:57 PM
Nice sculpts, both here and on your portfolio. Looking forward to seeing where you take this. Do you do your character posing in a sculpting program or an animation program?

02 February 2010, 06:34 PM
JRGauthier: merci Pour le support quebecois ! I saw your thread and this is a realy cool design, can't wait to see the final.

ScottMc: Thank buddy, well it rig in maya, i don't specialy use the transpose tool for this kind of pose... i feel more confortable and I can more easily understand the gestural and dynamic in a soft like maya. A bit longer but it more precise... for me.

02 February 2010, 06:20 AM (

Work a bit on her tonight. still in wip for the suit, props. folds etc

02 February 2010, 06:53 AM
good work but what happened to the other boob? Looks nice and i like how you put the cloths on the character very nice...

02 February 2010, 06:59 AM
Hahaha, a B-movie need definitely two boobs .

Perspective... mix with the curved spine pose effect. I should fix that.

02 February 2010, 07:07 AM
Excellent, very nice model (apart from the uniboob, obviously, but error is to be fixed, I'm sure).

Un autre québécois. Excellent!

Good luck, and I'm lovin' it.

02 February 2010, 07:12 AM
Like this a lot. I went with the bubble helmet too but I think I'm gonna change it because I want my heroine to show more face

02 February 2010, 08:30 AM
Wow, that's some great sculpting, really nice female model, and the clothing details are looking most sweet, looking forward to seeing more of this one!

02 February 2010, 08:43 AM
Ouain Ouain!

pretty good Sammy, I guess this is also a sneak peek of her weapon..
wait .. Vimmy making weapons? impossible..

02 February 2010, 09:01 AM
One Boobed Space Vixen, you've got a B movie right there!

Really nice modelling, there's already something very real and lifelike about her, I'm looking forward to watching this thread

02 February 2010, 09:01 AM
Nice progress- The gloves look natural. Are you giving her a worried/searching expression?

02 February 2010, 09:38 AM
Looks great, suit really feels like leather, keep it up.

02 February 2010, 10:13 AM
Bah ça déchire !
Nice to see the way you use to work !
I am a fan of your work but I didn't follow any wip from you.
This thread pleases me a lot !

02 February 2010, 10:37 AM
COol cool stuff! I like u modeling style a loT! THe design is very good too.

02 February 2010, 02:14 PM
Great modeling work so far! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your characters too. Good luck!

02 February 2010, 02:51 PM
Great pose..and the sculpting is really wonderful!

02 February 2010, 04:09 PM
Man, this is coming out so well! She is beautiful! I love the details in the gloves, and boots. My only crit would be the wrinkles where the knee bends, and maybe her clavicle is too high. Everything else looks superb. You are definitely a contender in this contest. :buttrock:

02 February 2010, 04:16 PM
Love it man! Nice modeling and cloth design!

02 February 2010, 07:16 AM
Greate sculpts you have there. keep it up, Ill be watching

02 February 2010, 08:00 AM
F**k me that is outstanding... No crits/comments, just open mouthed awe!

02 February 2010, 09:03 AM ( (

just a light mood test, don't plan to work on render for the next weeks.

So crappy, granny, render with no texture yet, modeling still in progress, props... quick shader, light...
just for fun before bedtime.

02 February 2010, 09:09 AM
Just a big thank everyone for feedbacks. I really appreciate. Give juice to continue.:)

02 February 2010, 05:35 PM
Wow. Amazing work man. I really love the face.

02 February 2010, 07:38 PM
Hey, it's fantastic like all your works :buttrock:
Great style, great anatomy...a pleasure for the eyes!

Retopo in Topogun??

02 February 2010, 08:15 PM
Hey Vimmy, this is looking great. I know it's a preliminary render but it's not making justice to your beautiful model. But I'm sure you will recover all those nice details on your next posts.
Keep the puppies coming

02 February 2010, 09:05 PM
Impressive sculpting on her! Your sculpts always have this natural feel to them that sets them above the rest. Looking forward to seeing this one pan out!

Good luck!

02 February 2010, 10:08 PM

02 February 2010, 05:56 AM ( (
some test between a modeling session of the guys in mud.

Still very wip again. Shaders textures. light ....

02 February 2010, 06:19 AM
Brett: Thank buddy. Realy cool you shia model.

Andream: Yea topogun. Thx man

Antropus: i guess slowly i'll get there. Well i hope so:curious: Thank again for passing by Kris.

GregStrangis: Thank hard to see our own works... i don't know hehe i guess i try in a way to add in each one a baby soul.

dingwang6: Hey thank for the support, always great to hear people from quebec.

JasonLin: Thank Jason. Cool stuff in your portfolio

02 February 2010, 07:55 AM
Well we clearly know where your aiming for First place and you're doing it so well.

You have to finish :D

02 February 2010, 08:08 AM
The cloth design and the pose is genious. The funny thing ,if i want to be more constructive, is that with the dark colors now , i lost some of your details on the suit and muscles. But then again maybe this is just a test render and i am wrong. In any case this is going to be awesome me thinks! :bounce:

02 February 2010, 09:24 AM
Have her pointing the gun up a little to the face. Dont hide the boobs are you loose 80% of the game... trust me on this, lol...

02 February 2010, 02:17 PM
Awesome sculpt, her pose is really great as well. Looking forward to more of the image and her character!

02 February 2010, 10:32 PM
She is looking great on those renders! I love the clothing work and can't wait to see how the next character will develop.

02 February 2010, 06:29 AM (

change a bit the suit design, still in progress.. props modeling texture... etc... granny

02 February 2010, 06:41 AM
Aven99: I hope so. Only time know. thank

DimitrisLiatsos: Thank man, i appreciate. Yea black and leather is to expensive for a B b-movie...

ShogunWarrior: actually i try, boobs and arm. but visually i prefer this ways, well like the last render.

FranciscoAlvarezDelgado: Thank buddy!

Antropus: Hey thank Kris, Your work kick my ass for this challenge, i hope to get time to complete it before deadline. Because i'm sure you you will.

02 February 2010, 07:30 AM
That fabric is already looking great - reminds me of some old album covers. Cool work

02 February 2010, 08:42 AM
HOLY #@*%! That's stunning Vimmy. It has been a pretty damn long time since my jaw fell to the floor in terms of cg work in the forums. Beautiful stuff man...and it's not even done yet.

Keep up the awesome work dude.

02 February 2010, 08:55 AM
Damn Vimmy. How on earth are you this good? Is this your 2nd life or something? Amazing work man.

02 February 2010, 09:58 AM
Oh man oh rock a lot!!! my gosh your work is fantastic..!!

02 February 2010, 01:06 PM
I love where this is going... The 'cheap' suits are perfect!

02 February 2010, 01:06 PM
Hey this looks very promising! The models so far are spot on and very bmovie'ish !

02 February 2010, 05:25 PM
great design! i also love the cheap suits. the execution is also looking great, very promising :)

02 February 2010, 05:44 PM
Vimmi fantastic work so far!

i love heads , hands , gloves and woman body - anatomy and foldings looks great there!
Only comment is on man thig and hip wich are not that anatomy well in comparing to rest of elements.

02 February 2010, 06:15 PM
Nice progress. Very original, but all your work is really. Good luck!

02 February 2010, 07:41 PM
brilliant modeling ! those suits look perfect :)

02 February 2010, 12:04 AM
frejam: thank man. Kind inspired by foundry suit and crapy jogging cloth.
Gio: Hehe thank for stoppy by man, I'm just a big fan of you stuff, so much soul and personality in it! really cool to hear that from you.

BrettSinclair: Haha, well i guess it my first one in this meaty vessel called sam. But who know... Me and this Sam are now strangely merged. at a point that it just impossible to know which one is the real one... i guess both... me.... and this other me... are the real one.... or maybe not... anyways. thank man

OZ: thank i appreciate

AJ: Still in wip but i'm glad you like the new suit.

yakonusuke: I hope so., it hard to stay in B-style. autodesk should create in a viewport just under the polycount. A $ count! I would be just easier.

Staszek: yes your right i''ll fix that. thank

jonathanclark: Thank buddy!

StephaneD: Merci, J'aime bien tes models il sont super.

Once again thank guys for all feedback.

02 February 2010, 12:09 AM
looking great vimmy ! impatient de voir la suite ;)

02 February 2010, 02:03 AM
Brilliant, just brilliant and it's not even finished. I encourage you to go through it all and finish it. The characters feel alive, the silver fabric is already spot-on, the clothes don't look like they were modeled but rather physics-based instead. Foremost, the quick sketch is very inspiring, I couldn't have thought of a better layout.

I can't wait for proper lighting.

02 February 2010, 03:46 AM
oooooh, that's looking good

02 February 2010, 03:55 AM
Great B-movie theme and look. The love the pointy cap thing on the guys head.

02 February 2010, 05:22 PM
collings: Merci Nicolas, I''ll try to post update soon.

Shletten: Hehe thank buddy, Toujours aussi spectaculaire dans tes commentaires.

ScottMc: thank man!

Korendo: Yea that add a little extra and funny look to it. cheer

02 February 2010, 06:03 PM
Nah, you're the one kicking ass Vimmy. Great progress man. The outfits are sweeeeeeeeeet!
My only comment is about the "volume" on the man's outfit. I don't know if it's a wrinkle, a reflection or he is just happy to see the girl!

02 February 2010, 06:54 PM
hehe I was hoping that someone notice that to, that just pop up in render. I had fix it. still a PG movie. Anyways thank man! Very promissing your last shot.

02 February 2010, 08:17 PM
amazing!!!

02 February 2010, 09:12 PM
Outstanding work Sam.
Love the concept and all the work youve done so far.

02 February 2010, 09:25 PM
that is very impressive indeed!!
the sculpted details are holding very well in the it a normal map or you're displacing it?
looking forward to see more!!

02 February 2010, 09:27 PM
Great stuff Great stuff.. plz give me more...

02 February 2010, 09:39 PM
Like all the other posts. Your face models are on point. I really like what I see. Keep it up man.

02 February 2010, 11:38 PM
J'aime trop ce que tu fais! J'ai hate de voir le resultat final. :)

02 February 2010, 01:11 AM
Hey Samuel,

Awesome work!! Love your last update, really great aluminum space suits, totally B-Movie touch, great!! Fantastic expressions on the characters.

Amazing work. Waiting for more updates. Cheers!!

02 February 2010, 03:34 AM
Beautiful work, I can't wait to see more :applause:

02 February 2010, 10:23 PM

sorry can post more than a 150kb file... that suck

wide version
click for high ( ( ( (

02 February 2010, 10:37 PM
That rock kick ass.

02 February 2010, 10:43 PM
This is so kickass man! The way you're building the cheap outfits, adding crappy pieces of appliances is brilliant and the render is outstanding. What software are you using to render this? Modo? VRay? MR?
I'm curious about the render engine and lighting setup.

Amazing update man. Keep "rocking" :)

02 February 2010, 11:10 PM
Sezanne: Thank man!

Chris: well i'm glad you like it, cheer!

Shardana: actually it all full rendered in full mesh, no displace exept the rock. thx:D

jesuisankit: thank man i'll try, to keep update frequent until deadline.

carrjt03111983: Damn what a nickname! Hehe thank

Verokomo: Bien merci Veronique, j'apprécie toujours les p'tit cou-cou made in quebec.

Ferx: great to hear that that buddy, thank

PascalR: Merci c'est gentil, j'aime bien tes works, vraiment des bonnes idées d'exobiologie.

RaVirr: That Rock...!:D thank.

Antropus: I'm always flattered by your comments man. I'm glad that you like the update, still a first passes for the rock... But About the render, it actually done by my new friend , the solemn Vray... God bless it. Actually it pretty standard setup. 3 big soft white purple vray light, and One HDR map for GI and reflect. and it pretty much it.

02 February 2010, 11:20 PM
for me, this is a winning entry so far.
so b-movie-isch, stunning materials, keep going man. its looking great

02 February 2010, 01:05 AM
Those are some crazy nice looking rocks.. Really nice detail frequency and the outfits and the pose for both characters is great... The way the outfits are built is very interesting as well. I have been reading a lot of good things about Vray.. and judging from your renders it shows that it is quite powerful... Great work man.. Good luck!

02 February 2010, 08:48 AM
Fantastic... I really love their 'equipment' & as Antropus said, the render is looking brilliant.

02 February 2010, 08:54 AM
Nothing to say. Just enjoying the show :)

02 February 2010, 03:52 PM
Haha spot on man! Really awsome job. I think the material and the draping of thir suits is really well done in a realistic perspective. I really think you have caught some b-movie-sillyness.

keep up the good job!

02 February 2010, 07:34 PM
super dope! i really enjoy your style! gooooo!

02 February 2010, 08:32 PM
This one is easily my favorite entry.. so calm, peaceful, yet so intriguing. Love everything about that image.

I would point out, that the rocks have a bit too much specular on the shiny side of the surface... it looks a bit too similar to the material of the clothes those characters wear. But its hard to say since there is still a background missing.

Keep up the great work!

02 February 2010, 10:37 PM
Kybel: Thank man, i hope to stay b-movie-isch... it hard.

FranciscoAlvarezDelgado: yea vray is a good renderer, thank buddy.

AJ: Cheer man, i'm glad that your like it.

Brett: enjoy the movie...:D

aghill: Sillyness is definitivly in my mind during the process. Thank;)

transient: I appreciate.

NinjaA55N: haha thank man, love your entry to, For the rock, actually i'll add the water later, like a medium tide.... but yea maybe your right,... anyways thank

02 February 2010, 11:29 PM
looking great vimmy, the layout is working nicely :). one of my favourite entry so far, keep it up

02 February 2010, 03:49 AM (

So just a test for the compo... not sure of everything at this stage...title ( not b-movie-isch for the moment), sentenses etc. Specialy for the Amen... I don't want to offend someone...

the guru face is take from a pic found on net.

thank Nicolas,

02 February 2010, 09:50 PM ( ( ( (
test PS smile (

I start one of the disciple... follower of the P Guru... very rough, in wip. He will probably bring 2 Pendants... for... guess who. so quick render, no displace, low GI etc

No sure yet about the cloth.

02 February 2010, 05:06 AM
Awesome, stunning work. You somehow manage to sculpt in this amazingly naturalistic and believable, yet also expressive and stylish way.
Your work in general is just some of the best 3d I've seen. kudos! Looking forward to the final image!

02 February 2010, 08:41 AM
Wow, amazing detailing!! The poster layout and colours work well together and the disciple is looking great so far!

02 February 2010, 09:53 AM
looking very good. I like the latest composition. This would be fun to watch. Keep up the good works.

02 February 2010, 11:26 AM
Great updates! Now that's what I call some great B-movie sillyness. :buttrock:

Keep up the sweet work!

02 February 2010, 02:55 PM
You, are brilliant.

02 February 2010, 08:34 PM
gjpetch: Hehe man thank for stopping by, and thank for saying that, i really appreciate:). I can so easily reverse the comment man, your works is just some of the best i've seen. Your spectacular challenge image, is simply my favorite 3d pic. anyways thank man.

Paperboy, overcontrast: thank guys, i'm glad to hear that.

TheRazorsEdge: yea my goal it to do something silly hehe,:) it fun, specialy with this guru subject.

AJ: hehe i don't think so. but i take it as compliment:)

A guys EricD did a paintover those head... and i think i'll go in this direction. (

02 February 2010, 10:20 PM
outstanding work.. I like how you keep adding elements and characters and they all fit in to the piece.. Great work man.. I like the green guy with the circle on top of his head (the 4th one) Great job man

02 February 2010, 11:56 PM
Thank man, i think i'll use the 4 antennas, like the teletubbies.

Last sketch. (

02 February 2010, 12:00 AM
If I was independantly wealthy, I'd fund this film :o)

02 February 2010, 01:57 AM
yes all is super!!

02 February 2010, 03:29 AM
Well I can see this as one of the Judges Favorite pieces in this comp.

Amazing all around:D

Gio Nakpil
02 February 2010, 06:33 AM
keeps getting better and better vimmy. i can't wait to see your treatment for the huge head of the guru!
there's a definite sense of creep factor in this poster you've captured from similar movies of the past.
it feels very much like a hammer film or something. amazing work man.

02 February 2010, 08:18 AM
I'm very impressed with your overall character design. You really captured that 50's feel with your astronaut suits and ray guns. Keep up the great work and good luck Vimmy

02 February 2010, 08:27 AM
brilliant stuff! looking forward to seeing more!! Those rock's are spot on! Could you comment on how u made them? tnx

02 February 2010, 09:10 AM
hey samuel!

simply amazing work you produce here.
when i first saw your work you where already far, but wow, you just evolve artisticly, by the speed of light.

02 February 2010, 01:41 PM
When I saw your latest updates, I had the same face expression as this guy on the last image. :)
Wonderfull! Keep it up!

02 February 2010, 06:02 PM
LOL these zealot guys are so funny. Amazing work.

02 February 2010, 06:18 PM
the diciple sketch makes me remember the movie lost in space :)

02 February 2010, 10:23 AM
Hi Sam looking great I've been following your thread for a while now its coming along really sweet now can't wait to see what you do with that guy in the sky! Only thing slightly bothering me with this piece is the hero guy's crotch area and the shortening going into it the perspective looks a little weird or his manhood a little high :) other than that is super man keep going!!!

02 February 2010, 08:27 PM
excellent progress Sam, I particularly love your use of materials - the silver costumes are great and the green guys are hillarious :buttrock:

02 February 2010, 09:52 PM
hi, super cool thread Vimmy! :) Super nice characters. I like expressions. Will follow your thread.
i have a question if you can answer.. how do you achieve chromatic aberration in your renders? is it post production in Photoshop, o its some sort of camer lens shader in vray render ?
Thx. Goood luck!

02 February 2010, 12:20 AM
Looking great Vimmy! Just stopping by to thank you for explaining about VRay. I forgot, so thanks! :)

02 February 2010, 01:33 PM
Wow! These are wonderful and have "B Movie" written all over them.

02 February 2010, 06:46 PM
this green guy face looks like real.. amazing

02 February 2010, 01:16 AM
Sorry guys for retard on reply, been busy with the guru and background test last week, and watching olympic... Anyways, i think i'll keep a little surprise for the end. So only post some tweak and new test render of thing you have already seen...

Piek: thank man, really cool stuff on you wip thread.

Aven99: thank man, which pieces?

Gio: tHank man, i appreciate. Yea i definitely looking for this kind of mood, a bit crappy and silly in once. I will try to post update soon of the guru,,, but maybe not to soon... maybe whan to keep some surprise for the end. hehe;)

Darum: cheer! Yea a mood 50's for the suit, but actually my plan is not to do a retro thing... i guess with all elements, it will be more clear.

Milivoj-Lemonade3D: actually it a pretty simple setup for the rock,,, i generated some rock shape using a small script, tweak them, use a displace, and that it. But them will have some change on the next renders.

rasmusW: Thank man;) I don't know for me, i still hate my stuff after a good night of sleep.. but i guess it the same for everyone...

PELENG: Hehe! cheer man, really love for entry, very dynamic and stylish, I love it.

agruberdesign: Thank

Andias: it possible, i need to take a look, i've not seen it.

Pteropus: thank man, yea i actually change the man suit. I hope it ok now.

Intervain: Merci!, I' m glad that you like it:cool:

daks: Thank for follow. the chomatic aberation are done in Ps... in post. is just more versatil.

Antropus: Thank man, Can't wait to see your psychedelic scene. :argh:

Paul4wood: Greeat to hear that it look like a B-movie... thx

Staszek: it was mostly a render test, cause now, he has a big brain head with radio device on is head. But still... thank man hehe

So no big update for now... just fix and remodelised some stuff on those guys... The rock still a old version without displace, small rock, algaes etc...

The new front rock: ( (

02 February 2010, 12:32 PM
The retro look and the cloth modeling are just great! Looking forward to more updates.

02 February 2010, 12:38 PM
Nice one Sam last render looking great I can see you improved the lustre of those suits too really lovely!! well done.

02 February 2010, 03:04 AM
is that vray for maya that you're using? - excellent update - I love those oversized suits :D

02 February 2010, 03:39 AM
Xion-Cajou: Thank.! cheer

Pteropus: Thank man I'm glad that you like the update!

Intervain: Actually no, i hope one day to be able to use the maya, cause i'm a maya user, but the 3ds version is more mature and complet... So it done render in 3ds. And yea suit are now a sort of hip hop version. thank:D

02 February 2010, 06:33 AM
Ello Samuel!

That last update with the two space visitors is Amazing! If I hadn't read your thread, I would have sworn it was a photo!
The wrinkles in your costumes are so realistic, I'm speechless

Can't wait to see how you finish it!

Cheers!

02 February 2010, 07:22 AM

02 February 2010, 09:38 PM
that's amazing, you have evolved so much ! keep it up

02 February 2010, 10:29 PM
Hi Sam are you using mudbox or zbrush for sculpting the cloth? what is your current work flow for producing those, looking great.

02 February 2010, 11:02 PM
stouckol: Merci, oui j'ai crois que tout de même progressé depuis les dernières années... j'ai 20 dont c'est j'imagine une des périodes où on fait des grands pas dans une démarche '' artistique''. Question sensibilité, interêts etc... Enfin hehe, j'espère que ça va continuer comme cela...

Pteropus: I use mudbox, for a first passes, run a Ncloth simulation in maya, and resculpt over this new mesh. Cheer!

02 February 2010, 01:47 AM
Awesome! this entry is awesome! defenitely one of my favorite entries! those suits are amazing.

02 February 2010, 02:46 PM

Frickin' awesome, mate! I love all your designs. The aliens are just great!

02 February 2010, 05:27 AM
Your spacemen look very cool....interesting stuff...

02 February 2010, 03:08 PM
Oh man the humans are looking perfect! Great job!

02 February 2010, 04:42 PM

Very impressive work. Amazing ability with the human figure!!! WOW

But the biggest thing, the figure's expressions are so natural. One rarely sees that CGI or otherwise. Good Job is an understatement!

02 February 2010, 08:44 PM
Oh Sam, very good idea of putting those kind of algaes on the front rocks. Secondly, I liked knowing how you work with your clothes.

02 February 2010, 09:17 PM
Inspiring work Vimmy! Your models are so natural and have such an organic feel that sets them apart from everything else I've seen, and it's a great pleasure to study them. It feels like you are working with silicon or latex when we are struggling with polygons. :)

02 February 2010, 11:01 PM
Like Omg!
Perfect! Perfect!
Damn You, Man! That's 100% Perfection!

02 February 2010, 11:29 PM
I like the characters look very old, excellent render :applause:

02 February 2010, 11:55 PM
daks: Np man!

yakonusuke Thank man, i appreciate

LastEmperor7: Thank you

AdrianLazar: When it your how work it hard to be that enthusiam... but thank man:D

grumposaur: Thank man, i'm glad to hear that.

Shletten: Thank buddy, as i said previously for the cloth. first passses in mud, after i run a ncloth simulation in maya, and resculpt base on this new shape.

undoz: Thank man, i guess it all a render and light question... :D

iatriki: Haha, well thank man,,, i still don't like them but... it always the same. Love your sculpt Btw

e2m: Never really thought about his age, but i guess your right:p Cheer

A render shot of a guys in back, still In wip, cloth and detail on rock etc...
I'll soon try two show other disciples.
I DOnt spend to much time on it cause it very small in the picture.

Like the red rectangle

In the rust for next weeks.... hope to get time...
Actually most of the modeling is complete, just need to render... Just......

02 February 2010, 12:30 AM
Samuel, this is outstanding, what a great work in every sence, the idea, the sculpts, the rendering, really a fantastic job!!!.

-The lighting/rendering is so real, are you using GI with area lights and an HDRI map?...

-Also those details are astonishing....displacement and normal maps together?

02 February 2010, 02:28 AM
Holy s**t!! That is crazy Samuel!! Between your thread and Krishnamurti's I have a whole folder filled with amazing inspiration!

02 February 2010, 03:16 AM

Amazing....:thumbsup:Indeed, your renders look like film rather than a digital output. I like the final follower design!

02 February 2010, 04:01 AM
Very, very impressive, defiantly winning material. love everthing about it, right down to the title. outstanding work, congrats :applause:

02 February 2010, 05:16 AM
Just wanted to say great job here. The renderings have a very cool style to them and nice modelling. The girl looks so much like Milla Jovavich - keep up the quality work.

02 February 2010, 11:35 AM
Brilliant! Don't forget to submit your images through the official challenge thingy as well - even if they look worse, it will update your thumbnail & I think it might affect the judging too.

I want your brain (in a good way).

02 February 2010, 11:44 AM
I cant wait to see this come together. I feel like I am in a toy store with all these great works everywhere.
Your choice for suit materials, and the way they stretch etc are amazing... LOVE IT.
I like the water for the back ground creature too.

02 February 2010, 06:50 PM (

Sketch, mood.... colors... etc.

In the rust for next weeks.... hope to get time...
Actually most of the modeling is complete, just need to render... Just......

Did someone know if the challenge finish on 16 or 19 ? because right now the countdown show 17 days left...?

02 February 2010, 07:02 PM
yolao: yea i use GI, 2 or 3 area light, and a HDRI map. and for the rock, simply use a bump.... and a displacemap. Nothing fancy, most of the time this work just fine.

Shletten: It a B-movie right ?

Emptyshell: cheer man,:)

Diabolos: i had no person in mind during sculpting. but i hear that to, and a mix wth angelina jolie... ANyways both still pretty.

AJ: Yea i hate this 150kb limitation... but your right i updated it. For my brain... give me your adress... no serious, thank... but i'm hard on myseft, i actually think several time to quite the challenge... and still... anyways cheer man, i appreciate.

rasamaya: thank man, glad you like it:wavey: (dont know what this buddy mean, look like a hello... anyways thank)

02 February 2010, 02:17 AM
I DOnt spend to much time on it cause it very small in the picture.
So you're saying that the beautiful work on the pose, specular map to show that the cloth is wet, particles well placed on the water and on his clothes are something you didn't spend that much time to create? Man, I need your computer!!! :p

Looking great Sammy! Love the quality of those renders and your attention to detail. The gadgets look great and well thought as well

02 February 2010, 02:56 AM
I just hit the water (tide) button in maya.

Haha seriously well you know... time is relative. ok maybe some time:) . I guess i should says, i don't whan to spend more time on him. it would be more appropriate...

But I guess that's one way to feel less guilty for not appreciate your own stufff after all this works...

02 February 2010, 05:40 AM
Just take a break tonight... to clean up my mind.

2 hour in mud and render in vray

02 February 2010, 10:29 PM
that's vray's skin? seriously? I need to try it - hope to see more of the image, it's brill - and I agree with Kris, I need your computer if it's all so fast heheheh

02 February 2010, 10:41 PM
Just take a break tonight... to clean up my mind.

2 hour in mud and render in vray
Pretty amazing

03 March 2010, 04:48 PM
Good luck Vimmy! I'm pretty sure you will kick ass!

First time read this thread and I really like the render, love the style

03 March 2010, 04:54 PM
come on, man! give us some updates!

03 March 2010, 05:00 PM
Still watching :). Love that faceless woman. What ref are you using? I love the subtleness of all the forms. Nice work!

03 March 2010, 10:19 PM
Your work is really amazing! I haven't had much to say so I haven't posted here yet, but I've been watching it all along: The modeling, the rendering, they're all super. And I love the small touches, the recognizable bits of household hardware that make up their weaponry, etcetera.

But I do have to comment about your logo: Don't know if it's just a placeholder, but I don't think it's working just yet. Because the 'P' is so tall and right next to the 2nd word, it reads like "The Mysterious P Guru of Planet." If your intent is to have the movie title be "The Mysterious Guru of Planet P," I'd suggest making "Guru of Planet" larger and dropping down the 'P' so that its top is flush with the top of Planet. I know it may sound nitpicky, but typography is important (and I certainly have no crits on your actual artowrk! :) )

Good luck!

03 March 2010, 09:22 PM
Intervain: Well it a simple vray material, not the fast skin one... It harder to setup SSS with refraction channel ( fog etc) but when you understand it well i very powerfull. But it not my case right know still learning it. Merci

Shletten: Bon c'est pas grand chose, Mais je compte bien pousser la gomme niveau peau et émotion sur mon prochain projet...

LSPhuong: Thank man, i appreciate.

iatriki: hehe I'm working on that, :wise:

BrettSinclair: I Don't use a specic reference, just get inspired by my ref folder. :buttrock: cheer!

walrus: I'm totally agree with you, topography it really important here. I'll work on that in my final comp. Thank man for the feedback.

03 March 2010, 05:57 AM
Some really wonderful 3d stuff going on here! Great job!

03 March 2010, 09:04 PM

03 March 2010, 03:15 AM
This is wonderful Vimmy! Can't wait to see it finished!

03 March 2010, 07:52 AM

Start to work more on guru, still again a lot to tweak.

03 March 2010, 11:18 PM
ok, I was fan since the beginning, but that's just going better and better with each update.
that guru of yours, he's just so cool... the idea, the modeling, the shading, the rendering...
you're definitely The winner for this challenge! ;)

03 March 2010, 12:18 AM
a giant hat made of spoons with fake jewels. now thats what im calling a B-movie. simply magnificent

03 March 2010, 06:18 AM
wow...fantastic work.
My only critique in your title of the move reads "The Mysterious P" maybe you could drop the P down under mysterious net to plant or play with size
inspiring work man :D

03 March 2010, 12:31 PM
wow! B movie delight! :) Just look at that funky hat and spoons and fake BlingBling! MAAN! WINNER!

03 March 2010, 12:41 PM
hey Vimmy! nice progress :) i like it. I have a suggestion for guru design.. maybe you could add a hypno disc ? somewhere, maybe for eyes ? imo it would make look more b-movie'sh :) just a suggestion..
anyway, your stuff looks great! GL!

03 March 2010, 02:58 PM

kybel: Thank man, still wip for this stuff, maybe want to tweak or simply add more stuff... Maybe like full small diamonds cloves on his hands... Like Micheal Jackson... Seam really B to me. Cheer.

HeadSmell: your right, topography is just sketch here. I'll fix it in final compo. :) thank man

iatriki: hey man, really cool your sculpt on the challenge. I love it.

daks: yes i thought about that to. And i think it a really cool idea. I just make paintover on this last post render. I think it add more B to it. Thank

03 March 2010, 03:22 PM
maybe lines of hypnodisc is too thin, or you could use one line spiral...
anyway guru

03 March 2010, 05:25 PM
Wow! This just keeps getting better and better. I love this! :D

I've been quietly watching this challenge from afar and just had to drop by your thread as it's my favorite entry. Definitely the winner in my book and because of this you had better finish on time or I will have to kill you! ;)

03 March 2010, 12:11 AM
I want to say that you are my prefered entry and not because you are from Québec too, but because I found it's the best idea out there, the best renders and probably the best modeling too. I do love your cheap gadjet a lot lol. Everything look spot on, well done.

Maybe the hypnotic line as daks said I guess the effect will be more hypnotical with one line spiral, what a great idea you had there héhé.

It's like if that challenge was done for you.

J'aurais aimé participer mais j'étais pas inspiré par le sujet, j'avais pas de bonnes idées.. donc j'ai laisser tomber même si les prix étais alléchant.

Lache pas il en reste pas long :P

03 March 2010, 12:34 AM
great work samuel

une des meilleurs entrée selon moi!

03 March 2010, 07:09 AM
It looks Like First place is taken. :banghead:

I love and and Hate you right now.

I love how it's turning out and hate or more like jealous on your tremendous 3D Talent. :D

03 March 2010, 08:41 PM
terrific job man.. great art direction.. very creative.. I like how you keep adding elements to the scene and characters and they all fit in so perfectly... truly awesome job.. one of the best entries for sure!.. congrats on a stellar job

03 March 2010, 09:52 PM
Sam: why the little spoons?

Your idea, originaly, was realy very good but the little spoons are maybe of too...

Best regards

03 March 2010, 10:07 PM
Ouais pour les cuillères je me le demande aussi, ok ca fait creepy a fond lol mais bon, peut etre mettre de la broche avec du papier d'aluminium lol ou juste de la broche, cage à poule ou je sais pas, bha a toi de voir ;)

03 March 2010, 10:49 PM
daks: Yea your right, i fix it!

ChewyPixels: Yes i hope to get time to finish this before deadline... ANyways, great to hear that entry his your favorite. I appreciate:eek:

Aven99: i'm not that enthusiasm man, hehe, but i'm flattered :love:thank

FranciscoAlvarezDelgado: I hope hope to get that same comment with all my elements put in one shoot. Thank again man, i appreciate.... again.

karko: C'est des cuillères a cocotier cosmique c'est différent... ya un super rubis en plastique coller avec de la colle chaude au centre.... Non sérieusement je vais voir ce que je peut faire pour modifier ceci. Si j'ai le temps... Merci

03 March 2010, 11:45 PM
Wow man nice update your work just turned into my favorite piece in the comp, I expected something special from you for the guru and you haven't disappointed. The thought an imagination you placed here is amazing unlike anything else in the comp I hope you win with this dood!! well done so far.

03 March 2010, 12:33 AM

allez go ! finish him ! /o/

03 March 2010, 08:02 PM
Really nice budy! keep posting new stuff, I want to see the final product. Hope you in the first place this time.

03 March 2010, 11:12 AM
Excellent idea - the guru of Planets! Impresses!

03 March 2010, 05:43 PM
Pteropus: Thank buddy, i change a bit the guru since then.... Hope you will like the next update... well the final pic.

Ianes: Well thank man:D

03 March 2010, 02:40 AM
Some test. Still very wip, again... fog, color, detail,, topo. Light . Rock wet map etc Adding more depth... matching passes

Maybe one disciple is going to be semi-transparent... like a ghost or something.

EDIT: Telepathic brain...

click for med resolution (

03 March 2010, 04:56 AM
Oh but what a great pleasure to see that! It looks great, totally orgasmic! :D

Looks nothing like a CG image. :p

03 March 2010, 06:13 PM
Sim: I'm not very happy with the result yet... actually i'm blind with this project. just can wait to turn the page... But yea, i try to get a color and look of the actualy movie shoot more than a poster. Not so saturated, camera imperfection, etc...

03 March 2010, 06:20 PM
Sim: I'm not very happy with the result yet... actually i'm blind with this project. just can wait to turn the page... But yea, i try to get a color and look of the actualy movie shoot more than a poster. Not so saturated, camera imperfection, etc...
Courage, I know you can finish it. It doesn't have to be so pretty after all. Posters in the 50's weren't so complex.

03 March 2010, 06:31 PM
I'll... :curious: but still hope to do some relatively pretty... More like Cheap!

03 March 2010, 06:35 PM
hi samuel, you are genius artist, thumb up.

03 March 2010, 08:51 PM
Irawan: I appreciate, but it simply to much. man. hehehe:beer:

03 March 2010, 09:44 PM
This is looking great! The character models are fantastic. The red title is nicely done.

The guru head is interesting, though as is, it looks a little photomontage-like (WIP?). I’m not sure what to think about the spoon array. At first thought they remind me of both the Amazing Kreskin (spoon bending magician/mentalist) and also an Amazonian Indian headdress (short feather array). Maybe that’s a good thing.
Also, the ‘God’ line may not hurt you but I doubt that it will help you in the voting process, considering God, Religion and Politics are heavy taboo subjects on this site—just throwing it out there.

On a side note, the models in your CGP, as others have mentioned also, are fantastic!

Good luck.

03 March 2010, 10:22 PM
I hardly imagine any CG artist being religious but I might be surprised.

03 March 2010, 10:39 PM
Quadart: Yes the guru is In wip, i've change it since then. It should look like a Guru from a movie... i hope so. For the Spoon, i tweak a bit the plastic diamond, it help in a ways to hide the spoon. But your right about the spoon bending and the feathers, that was my two inspiration for that.

For the god line, i know your probably right, It not helping my cause. But still hesitate to remove totally the ''god'' word in it... I'll see sleep on it. :hmm:

Shletten ( Why?

03 March 2010, 12:44 AM
Looking really great Vimmy and I'm sure the final will look even better!

About the religious reference I'll have to agree with Quadart. Some people take offense on this kind of joke, I can guarantee you that. He said that more out of concern that this *might* cause trouble to you so you don't take risks. But of course, it's your work and your idea.
Shletten said:
I hardly imagine any CG artist being religious but I might be surprised.
I hope you're kidding here, I really do...

You know it's funny that the greatest art ever produced by mankind has to do in some way with God, religion, and or politics. Political correctness has run amok! So Vimmy I say go for it if that's where your vision is taking you, just MHO. :-)dreif

Shletten - There's tons of religious CG Artists including me.

The God thing doesn't bother me at all. Especially in that font and in the props of this image. Dont worry about it.

Vimmy, I think your image is too vertically tall at the moment. But maybe that's just because of the empty black space. Add the guru in there as a comp so you can decide for yourself. Mad props though, you've done an amazing job so far. Turn the page after you've finished this up!

Character models are extremely impression - Bravo!

Hi Sam I've a few thoughts on this one first I suppose you have to ask yourself if you want to win this you may have to tone the references down a little, but it's your statement if you want to stand by it then that's your choice there's too much dumbing down in this industry just to fit in with the rest of the pack usually stuff with any merit is going to upset someone. I really don't feel its a big issue with this piece. If I was to say something to tone it down maybe take Amen doesn't work anymore off, its on there but very small it's almost as if you want to say it but don't want people to see it, its last on the composition and under the names off the radar at moment so maybe either rework it or bin it. I love the type you have hit the b movie style perfectly very lost in space which is good. My advice is don't lose sleep on it take it on board if you feel it needs changes to the text do it but the characters, modelling ,texturing is all spot on I for one love it. You have stood on your own on this piece and done it Vimmy style good luck for the comp man.

Granted I'm not a religious man but I can't imagine anyone taking serious offense at a fake b-movie poster for a film that doesn't exist...

Besides, you could argue that the 'film makers' put it on the poster to get people talking about it :)

If you *do* decide to change it, just switch it to "Is he above GOD himself?".

03 March 2010, 01:03 PM
You stuff is so insanely good...damn

But honestly I'm not really thinking B-Movie. Although the *costumes* seem odd, they feel alive and as part of an actual universe. Captivating the imagination instead of making me think of low budget production.

This image makes me drool especially

I agree lets get back to sams work I apologize also.

03 March 2010, 08:22 PM

A pretty fleeting comment, for some artists their beliefs are the spiritual backbone
for their work CG artists are no different myself included I hope you didn't mean it in this manner.
Will you people leave me alone? My logic was flawed, very flawed. Enough with this... I apologize for being such an atheist but I'm not willing to edit/erase my comment just because everyone reacts badly to it. It's a Quebecer thing, we people here have had the "revolution tranquille" unlike other places in the world. For one thing, I surely didn't imply that religious people were lesser artists, not in the least!

Let's get back on topic and hope the best for Samuel and his fabulous work. That said, is there any recent update you'd like to share with us Samuel?

You know it's funny that the greatest art ever produced by mankind has to do in some way with God, religion, and or politics. Political correctness has run amok!

Many had to do with religion because otherwise all those great artists would have no work - since the church was their main client... it had nothing to do with their personal beliefs. I'm sure if many of them had spoken their mind they'd end up in a bonfire...
I'm with Quadart on the God line, myself.
I love the spoon man though - and the plastic rocket's great

Amazing work. The design of those suits is really sweet. In my crystal ball I see many top 10 placings being 3D this time...

03 March 2010, 02:47 AM
Intervain: yeah, i decide to change the god thing. Finally someone who like my spoon:thumbsup:. The only problem is that they don't exist anymore in the scene... Thank:D

BaronImpossible: I'm glad you like it man, your entry, for the time ( well days) your work on is just amazing. Good luck man

hi vimmy, seem to be to much on the upper part of helmet(the lamps and smarties on his helmet aren't really necessary, the initial "p" and brain are great, imho),the strong/unique design on his eyes and his cloth is enough for him i guess.

03 March 2010, 11:55 AM
i gree with irawan about those smarties, and i really miss those spoons from the earlier version man :)
but overal - fantastic guru. love the 'P' made of clay
