Well getting ideas together right now. I often do pics with thsi kind of humor in mind. Good luck to everyone in the challenge and hope to see some cool entrants.

OK a bit on the pre visualization. i had an idea to do a take on bug Eyed monsters from Space they want our women. But I took a different take the women like them due to a super strong pheromone that takes over the will of those women who smell them.

I did the drawing a quick sketch with a good amount of fun and then my 5 year old daughter took it and drew eyes on my eyes which actually makes it look better makes them a bit more sympathetic so I am going with that.

Instead of a global menace these aliens menace a local diner and the high school kids who go there.

Just starting modeling and getting a feel for the Neptunian Lothario. I plan on rigging him and making a few morph targets to have more flexibility on the final image.

01 January 2010, 01:37 AM (

A render to show him off I still want to go over him again then make shader zones and apply shaders rig him and then make a morph target or two.

01 January 2010, 08:53 AM
Nice mustache!

01 January 2010, 12:22 AM (

Did some work on shaders and texture maps. I did most of the work with shaders used texture maps on the mustache and the iris of the eyes. Still have to work on some shaders for the body and then on to rigging and morph targets.

01 January 2010, 02:10 PM (

Well got a few morph targets on him and they can be combined to make him a bit more expressive.

A bit about the inspiration. I wanted to go with the direction of the moon men from Ray Harryhausen and then went a bit different direction. they eyes within the insect eyes are what my 5 year old daughter drew on my concept art so I went with it gives it extra cheese.

I am going a bit of a different direction not so much a horror movie. Here is the inspiration for the challenge.

I went with a different take going for a bit of the I was a teenage werewolf and some other flics the Women want the Bug eyed monsters and they are causing problems in high school. Hence he has a nice tie on i will give him a few more things like a pinky ring to make for his look. For those who want to know a lothario is a man who seduces women.

01 January 2010, 02:58 PM
LOL "They want our women" That's priceless!

Love this creature.

01 January 2010, 04:55 PM
It's a smart, classy, bug. Looks cool with his bow tie and mustache :)

01 January 2010, 05:08 PM
the mustache is the twist! (the special thing of the character!)

very good

01 January 2010, 11:07 PM (

Got the dude rigged and now it is time for the other characters. Still unsure if I want to start new base meshes or just take a few older ones I have doen in the past and clean them up and get them ready.

01 January 2010, 06:27 AM
This is one odd looking monster. It has the flare of humor and perfect for B-flicks.

01 January 2010, 01:41 AM (

Still need to dig in on this she will be clothed once done but everything is being done old skool all boxmodeling in wings. I do need to touch up on her some more. I am going for an exaggerated look like a girl you would see in films like Shaft getting a bit of the look of Tamara Dobson.

01 January 2010, 01:45 AM
thanks for the comments had to go for a different angle so i went with a Salvadore Dali style moustache. Looking at some reference I need to get a bigger fro on her to really get it more in line with my vision. I do need to dig into the geometry a bit more. Any suggestions would be appreciated i need to get back to work on this Good luck everyone and I hope to see a lot of cool entries.

01 January 2010, 02:23 AM (

Well got some work done on the first girl made a few morph targets for her and clothed her. I got some rigging to do yet to get her able to pose but having some expressive morph targets is always a plus. Each one can be combined with the others and they can go to negative values and go beyond normal morphs.

01 January 2010, 02:41 AM
CSmallfield thanks i thought that the mustache was a cool hook.

Danko Well he is classy after all he is a ladies man, or bug.

Raulbajaro I think the mustache and the weird eye within and eye is the twist. My 5 year old daughter drew the eye on the drawing so i had to go with it.

Rageof Ages I always thought that was a silly idea it is actually a game. (never played it) But in this case he is found desirable by the women.

Yongkiat I had a moment of inspiration and wanted to go funny rather than scary.

01 January 2010, 02:16 AM (

Gotta rig on the girl with some morph targets.Looks better from some angles than others not going fr realism but want it to be good.

01 January 2010, 01:29 AM (

Intentional mispelling there are a number of Diners in my hometown with the name spelled Dinor so this one fits the bill small cheap greasy spoon. This is just going to be in the backdrop. Reworking the flygirl and working on another girl those will come up in updates soon real life gets in the way at times.

01 January 2010, 05:01 AM (

Well reworked the girl a lot changed clothes and tweaked a lot of geometry re rigged and made new morph targets for her. Will have an additional girl after all he is a Lothario. Will do a few layers to make a poster.

01 January 2010, 05:22 AM
Great work, i like the posing of the last update, where the bug monster looks as if he's politely inviting the woman to be abducted by aliens, rather then just running off with her :D

02 February 2010, 11:03 PM (

OK there will be two girls for our bug eyed ladies man to be with. Here is the other I have a series of morph targets for her too. This will make it so I can fine tune the expression of the character I can combine and make more extreme or subtle. Still have to rig with bones and then onto the two guys and a few more props for the background and then layers.

02 February 2010, 11:04 PM
Great work, i like the posing of the last update, where the bug monster looks as if he's politely inviting the woman to be abducted by aliens, rather then just running off with her :D

Exactly that is the point he is the ladies man/bug from Neptune set to play the field here on Earth. Sort of the start of the plot of the worst teen movie ever.

02 February 2010, 07:44 AM
Hey Daniel,

Totally cool concept, a seducer women alien bug is a totaly unique idea!! And really great character design on the lothario bug, has a really lover feeling, a womanizer for sure :D The mustache is a fantastic touch.

Nice work and looking forward for more updates. Cheers!!

I wanted to include a properly shaded pic with the models. More of an effort than one would think. Wings does not do that so I imported into Messiah and did a quick render with simple materials with HDRI and GI on to get close to the same effect. I like wings a lot just wish it had a better renderer with it for modeling.

I will be taking things in a bit of a different direction All the characters will be in the render but the "Dinor" will not be there the backdrop changes and I will not be including the boys in the image. Mostly because it takes too much away from Zog who is the centerpiece.

02 February 2010, 11:05 PM
Ferx thanks i look forward to your entry too. I looked up the mole salamander quite an interesting animal there. I plan on having a bit of fun with this good luck.

02 February 2010, 10:39 PM (

Working on the layers wanted to show a few of them off. Lots of photoshop later it will be pure Velveeta.

02 February 2010, 11:36 PM (

A preview of the final image. I need to get back to my life again. Did a lot of work on this and my family needs me so I need to wrap it up. I could get nitpicky and go over and over it will look at it again a few times over the weekend to see if I can tweak a few things. Lots of layers in photoshop.

The characters are rendered and rigged in Messiah 2.5. The background is rendered in Bryce 5.0 postwork in Photoshop 5.0LE all modeling done in Wings 3D.

I am doing this one on a budget so I guess it has that look a bunch of cheap out of date programs but hey it is fun.

02 February 2010, 02:05 PM (

Software: Bryce,Photoshop,Wings3D

He is a alien from Neptune that is a great lover of women and finds earthgirls particularly pleasant. He has powerful pheremone that will overwhelm the girls he meets with desire for him despite his appearance. He has style and is a cool guy.

an added note the foreground is rendered in Messiah 2.5.

02 February 2010, 02:20 PM (

OK this is what I got for a final image. I found I could not post upload a Tiff so did a high res JPG which was all it would let me upload. Anyways I have something up there hope it works out.

Anyways I need to ask why there is a Messiah forum here but you can't select it as one of the software packages you use to make an image???

OK enough wining. I did about 20 layers in Photoshop and tweaked them trying to capture the lurid colors of a B Movie poster. Mountains in background are rendered in Bryce as the planet and spaceship.

02 February 2010, 04:39 PM
I really like this.. Good Luck Dann-O..

03 March 2010, 02:43 AM
Bonjour Daniel,

I am not familiar with the software youíve used and their limitations but I have the impression that you did an impressive job with what you had. I really like your ideas but if I had to nitpick a little, I do find the lighting a bit harsh and uneven. The light might look this way in the void of space but since your characters donít wear spacesuits, the light would be more diffused because of the atmosphere. Also, your different elements donít feel lighted from the same source which gives a collage sensation that I donít think you intended. Nevertheless, I really dig your concept and your Zeb character. :)

03 March 2010, 12:33 AM
Thanks for the comments. The background is rendered in a different program so there are fewer tricks so it is just point lights no HDRI or GI. I was going for a sort of collage look akin to the original star wars posters. I finished early and could have done more but I had to get away from it. I like my concept there are some things I would have liked to do better but lack of talent, time, hardware and software prevented a lot of that too.

In the end I am just a hobbyist that does this as a hobby have to work full time in an unrelated field and a dad so I do what i can.

03 March 2010, 03:51 AM
Don't sell yourself short, I don't see any lack of talent here and trust me GI is overated. :)

03 March 2010, 10:51 PM
Great finish. Well done. I especially like the elegant design of the space craft. It's a subtle addition to an image which overall fits the theme of this challenge perfectly. Good luck
