Latest Update: Final Image: The Island Of Delirium (

01 January 2010, 09:52 PM (

Hey! Good luck to all!
My first idea is to make eyecathing shot or poster of B-movie. Everything must be looking great but if you'll get closer you'll see some interesting details. How it was made, you know...
Have fun!

01 January 2010, 10:35 PM
This looks great!

And I'm not only saying that because I'm heading in the same direction... ;)
I guess that you are bound to get some of the same element with this many contestants, so don't feel that you have to change anything if that mic pole pops up somewhere else!

It will be nice to see how this turns out! I like the sketch so far!

01 January 2010, 07:16 AM

01 January 2010, 05:54 PM
You joined, great, it will be interesting to watch.
Good luck!

01 January 2010, 08:06 AM (

Thank you, thank you! I know that it is hard to get what is going on out there, but please wait a little bit more.
And by the way, my friends, what about such a title for my work - Delirium Island - is it correct, or may be better would be - The Island Of Delirium? Cause I don't know English very well and I thought somebody could help me. Thanks one more time!

01 January 2010, 08:38 AM
Both are fine, though Island of Delirium slides off the brain a little better.

If you were to call it "Delirious Island", it could imply that the island itself is delirious, and anyone on it is s**t out of luck :D

Looking forward to those updates you promised us :wip:, but I understand that Real life can take up a lot of time.

01 January 2010, 08:54 AM
Greetings, Sergey! Interesting idea and not bad sketches. Good luck! I glad that you participate in competition.

01 January 2010, 09:29 AM

01 January 2010, 11:34 AM
Well this is thread I will keep my eye on. based on you render skills, I can only say we will all need to work harder. still not sure what's going on in the scene, but I guess you need some time to figure it out too.
any way good luck  . I'm sure you will.

01 January 2010, 07:38 AM
looking forward to seeing more

01 January 2010, 01:17 PM (

Thank you for awaiting :)
Finally I have all things clear!

Cast (in order of appearance :))
Director (his reflection we will see in the metal part of the robot, if you remember)
Space Villain (the creator of the robot)
Two man (as Robot)
The girl (victim ahhhh!)
Welder hero (he's burning)

In brief:
Here is a fatal disaster on the stage. Everything go wrong here.
The guys inside robot sitting on each other can't stand straight any more. That is why the girl is falling down and the villain have a broken spacesuit.
I plan to do a lot of details, so the story will be more interesting.

01 January 2010, 01:19 PM
Oh, man! Why it is so sharpened!? :surprised

Here is larger sketch

01 January 2010, 02:22 PM
Sweet update! Forms are really starting to come out. Gogo Peleng!!

01 January 2010, 10:01 PM

02 February 2010, 01:07 PM (

Thank you for kind words!
At first I wanted to make sunny scene, but then I made up my mind to make image more mystical. Here is what I have at this moment. I think it will be a start point for further work.
Ready, Set, Go! He-he, I'm a turtle, I'm so slooooow.

02 February 2010, 01:41 PM

02 February 2010, 08:50 AM
A little bit of bioshock feeling in here. I like this women flying on top of robot's head. Colors remind me those old movie-posters feeling. I'm sure it will be great piece. Keep going.

02 February 2010, 01:07 PM
I have no idea how this will turn out or what it's about, so come on and show more! :D
Looking forward to watch it progress.

02 February 2010, 01:36 PM

02 February 2010, 01:59 PM

yakonusuke, yes everything will be clear soon. The next step will be working on characters.

warpv, thank you, mate!

Sezanne, yeah!

02 February 2010, 02:30 PM
Its so great how u portray all those dynamic poses of the characters. I have to learn that! :D all those legs pointing in all directions, twisted bodies.. love it!

02 February 2010, 02:41 PM
This is turning out jus as I expected anythin from you.
I like how u use colors. Its something that should be coming natural to you now , but I wanted to know, when you started, how do u go about selecting a family of colors.

No idea if I explained my question clearly, but a promising progress and thanks for ur comments on my thread.

02 February 2010, 03:02 PM
I don't quite actually understand what's going on at this stage...
But I figured out from previous posts that it's about seeing people (puppeteers) and stuff operating robot on the set, on actual (fictional anyway) movie poster...? Or I get something wrong...?

02 February 2010, 03:51 PM
NinjaA55N, thank you! I have to learn something from you, for example color using - colors in your B-movie work are just great!

sandsekh I see. I must say that I had a big trouble with choosing colors for this work, there were so many attempts and variants... But finally I cought a clear vision of what I want to do and I started to paint faster, because I already had an image in my head. So I think that is the case.
I just made a layer with multiply mode over my first black and white sketch, and started to paint. Usually I start from grey (dirty) colors and then I move to more bright and clean colors. Also I use to set the brush opacity to 50% and after I have all basic colors on canvas I start to mix them and so on...

deadrockboy, everything will be clear on final image :) Actually you are right.
Group of actors with Director in head are trying to make a poster image, but all things are going wrong.

02 February 2010, 12:25 PM (

Here are the first steps of working on characters.

Truly fabulous Peleng. Love the idea, the drawing is superb and the way the colour is moving looks fantastic. Those feet really are planted on the ground plane. Nice job.

02 February 2010, 07:22 PM

02 February 2010, 12:33 AM
By gum, but you can't half draw and paint, Sergey. Love theis detail. Really shows that ability.

02 February 2010, 07:19 AM
Incredibly as you handle with colours.

02 February 2010, 09:55 AM

Man, this is looking most awesome!!!

02 February 2010, 06:32 PM
Freaking inspirational work here! The shapes and colors really pull me in to your work - even details keep the spontaneity of a sketch. Cool characters too.

02 February 2010, 11:58 PM
Wow. This looks great. Even the roughs look better than anything I've done. You definitely are an inspiration. Good luck.

02 February 2010, 11:37 AM

Wish you all the best, i know you will win, i can feel it

03 March 2010, 03:29 PM
This is good in too many ways to mention. You handle expression and dynamism like it's easy, not to mention the colour... ah... the colour. Remember to start clearing a space for your prizes.

03 March 2010, 05:05 PM
Wow, can't wait to see this finished! As always, very strong work!

03 March 2010, 12:04 AM (

Thank you!
After being a while busy I'm back trying finish this work.

03 March 2010, 12:07 AM
you didn't reveal much with the latest update...but...damn...those are really nice colors.

03 March 2010, 08:40 PM
excellent as usual... very curious to see the finished product!

03 March 2010, 08:53 AM
excellent, especially the fresnel effect on the varnish and the expression of the director in the reflection.

but looking at the whole image some pages ago, there's something i would like to mention. if the man in the robot is losing balance, i suggest to raise one of the robots leg or to put the robots lower part more wonky to enhance the look of him going down. :D
as it is now, he looks very stable.
but nonetheless, your work is impressive as hell! :buttrock:

03 March 2010, 12:29 PM
I love that you can see the film crew in the reflection... I can't wait to see this finised

03 March 2010, 12:50 PM
This is good in too many ways to mention. You handle expression and dynamism like it's easy, not to mention the colour... ah... the colour. Remember to start clearing a space for your prizes.
Simon basically said it all... I personally also can't stop staring at those robot fingers - it's amazing how much form and texture there is in them, with just those wide strokes :surprised - Respect!

03 March 2010, 03:17 PM
Your brushstroke poetry is amazing. Great sense and use of color--as always.
Can’t wait to see the finale.

03 March 2010, 08:33 PM
Simon basically said it all... I personally also can't stop staring at those robot fingers - it's amazing how much form and texture there is in them, with just those wide strokes :surprised - Respect!

nothing to say.

03 March 2010, 02:00 PM (

Thanks to all!
I really appreciate your words!

Bran, yes I see, but the bottom man still stable - the top one is unstable. Thank you.

There is not so much time left and I need to hurry. The whole image I'll post when all things will be on the right place. Thank you one more time!

03 March 2010, 02:42 PM
Have you done a deal with the Devil or something? Jeez.

03 March 2010, 09:56 PM

03 March 2010, 05:02 AM
Absolutely incredible work, your handle of the various textures and colors is inspiring as hell. Bloody amazing!

03 March 2010, 01:05 PM
Is is hot inside that robot, couse that guy, with the cigarette, is so shiny, is it suet?

Great stuff so far!

03 March 2010, 02:13 AM
You have a really beautiful style...looking forward to seeing the finished product.

03 March 2010, 05:27 AM
your fundation is very good!

the idea and the color are both well!
a promising piece!look forward to your final work!

by the way, i think you should be alert to over depicting, that means too scrupulous about every detail. i always believes that depicting every detail means no detail, we'd better chose those most important detail to be prudently paint and keep those less important parts loose, which makes important element stand out and simultaneously give more variation to the whole piece.

my work has also proceeded to the final procedure, but the entire effect is not satisfactory, please give me some advice.

good luck! cheers!

03 March 2010, 05:39 AM
i can't get over the level of professionalism on display here, such clear and precise technique..sorry nothing to deep to post, just admiration!!

03 March 2010, 08:28 AM
I didn't read the entire thread, but your brushwork is FANTASTIC.

03 March 2010, 09:26 AM
So much eyecandy! Love it.

03 March 2010, 09:51 AM
I like this certain elegance of your style. It seems that every brush stroke is very carefully handled but still nothing is overrendered... I would call it a STYLE ;)

03 March 2010, 12:08 PM
you sir are a GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!! :):):)

i couldn't w8 for your whole coposition preview so i puzled it out of the pieces you left,
and it loooooks AWESOME!

you need to hurry a bit because the deadline is just 3 days away.

03 March 2010, 02:23 PM

Beautiful man Beautiful:bowdown: The final is going to be Awesome!

03 March 2010, 02:29 PM
Outstanding, loving the reflection of the crew in the robot's body.

03 March 2010, 02:46 PM

please fill in the spaces with the dots any amount of words like "stunning", "awesome", "brilliant", "ingenious", "amazing", "splendid". my vocabulary is used up.

03 March 2010, 03:24 PM
AWESOME! every stroke has a reason to be there, can you tell me which program do you use?
thanks in advanced.

03 March 2010, 03:28 PM
Superb brushwork and scary good lighting & colours. One thing, I think it would be better if the guy on the right was looking upwards as his helmet is smashed. First, it's a natural thing to do and second it was a while before I spotted that the robot has smashed the glass.

03 March 2010, 08:04 PM
Amazing work, i can't stop looking at this!

03 March 2010, 01:06 AM
Oh the way you handle that paint!

03 March 2010, 05:35 AM
Digging the style a lot! can't wait to see the final image :)

03 March 2010, 12:19 PM (

This guy burned a little.

Thank you!

Irawan, I'm using Photoshop. Thank you!
BaronImpossible, thank you very much, but I think this pose clearly shows that it was unexpected. Anyway, once you noticed it - you know it :)

03 March 2010, 01:27 PM
ArrrfffFFF, this is to good to be true !

could you prove you are human ?:curious:

03 March 2010, 05:01 PM
Hi, I new here. . .I can't believe this is the first time I'm seeing this. Your work is amazing. I'm still learning-but your strokes and method of refinement, style idea-it's all awesome. When you posted the update with the reflection of the camera man my jaw droped dude.
Congrats and good luck
if you have any time please check out my piece-I got off to a slow start and am open to crits

03 March 2010, 11:49 AM (

Working on background.

03 March 2010, 11:50 AM (

Working on environment. The image almost done.

03 March 2010, 12:16 PM
peleng rocking the challenge with the speed of light!

the use of colors is stunning. every single brushstroke i can see makes sense.
and i like the details you've worked in like the socket-outlet hidden in the foliage.

i won't expect less from you than a winning entry (in my opinion, yours already has won). :)

undead greetings from out a misty bog,

03 March 2010, 03:53 PM
great update Sergey!

OK, it's time to finish.

03 March 2010, 10:55 AM
again i have to write down that this is my absolute topfavorite among all (image-)entries.

your handling of colors and brushstrokes that generate such detailed art and the razorsharp, almost 3d-like shapes have created a breathtaking image. the way how the objects refer to each other and the story that is told by the unique characters and the slightly hidden details such as the reflections of the director and the powerswitch in the shadows of the plants, i think, is another reason why your work should be a winner.

undead greetz,

03 March 2010, 10:58 AM
Finally, the long-awaited finale. One of my favorites, Just no words... Great. Congratulations, respect.

03 March 2010, 10:58 AM
Whoooaaaaa! The anaglyph 3d, what a wild card surprise. It works great. I just happen to have a pair of a-glasses laying around in a whatnot drawer next to my desk.

Great finish!
Good luck!

03 March 2010, 11:01 AM
Very nice painting, i like the candy-look of the robo's arm. I agree to BaronImpossible's post, I can't read in first look what's happened with the glass helmet. Anyway overall looks really great.

03 March 2010, 11:17 AM
Outstanding work ! Waow ! Congratulation ! And your wip is very interesting.

- And the last question mr. Birated. You was acting in The Island Of Delirium movie where we could see you as a green head villain, the master of a robot with freeze gun. Do you remember this comedy?
- Mmm... I thought we were doing the drama...
- Anyway, what was the feeling of working with Dan Satanovsky, the director of this movie?
- Who the hell is this guy?.. Oh, yes, I do remember him! Well he was very nice fellow. Me and the other actors, we really didn't understand what should we do on the stage, and many times everything were going wrong, but I think that Dan was happy with this movie.
- But this movie was a great failure... What do you think about it?
- What movie?.. I don't understand... Who the hell are you? What the...

Gorgeous work, Peleng! If you don't win one of the top 2 prizes, you certainly deserve the category for best painting. Your brushstrokes are masterful. Congrats on the great job!

03 March 2010, 02:38 PM
Peleng.Thank you!
Your thread is as informative as much as it is fun. The piece has turned out really good.
I liked how you put in all the little details like the crews reflection on robot, pieces of glass, the guy sweating inside ..etc and yet maintained those gorgeous strokes.

Very Commendable and Yeah, All the very best.. :)

03 March 2010, 04:53 PM
Amazing work! 3D was cool bonus but the image itself is so strong so that effect wasn't necessary. Once again super duper image.

03 March 2010, 09:08 AM
Damn, your painting skills and use of colors are flat out AWESOME!!
Will be a winner for sure. :applause:

03 March 2010, 03:33 PM
Thank you guys!

I have a problem with Internet connection at home, so I will read carefully and reply when it's gonna be alright.

03 March 2010, 03:52 PM
Beautiful work. I like how you kept it so clean, which put my entry to shame because it's sooooo busy. Your technique and perception of lighting is really outstanding.

Good luck,

03 March 2010, 11:31 AM
You've got it all there, Sergey!!

Great understanding of lighting, materials, color and structure; your sense of design's spot-on, as are your brushmarks and gestures - all are superb.... This has to be one of the best entries I've ever seen here - Just one amazing piece of work :)

03 March 2010, 03:21 PM
Thank you, thank you very much friends! :buttrock:

03 March 2010, 08:31 PM

I would like to thank everybody who leaved comments here! It was really helpfull feedback! Thank you many times!
I'm not among winners, so it gives me one more interesting chance in next challenges!
Congratulations to all winners - it is very well done stuff!

Good luck everybody!

06 June 2010, 07:13 AM
That kinda suck man, I'm was really surprised to see that your not in the winners.

Anyways, the image you did still awsome

06 June 2010, 07:53 AM
I was surprised not to see Your exellent work amount other winning pieces but that's life. I wish to see "Honorable mentioned" on the site like they always did but this time they skipped it.. that's somehow disappoint me but we have to deal with it. Anyway great work.

06 June 2010, 09:39 AM
hey peleng,

though your image is not among the announced winners, for me it has won anyway this challenge. :buttrock:

06 June 2010, 09:45 AM
i agree with the comments above, your illustration was really the one with the most quality in it.
it deserved at least an honorable mention ...

so congratulations to you to!!!
can't w8 for the next one to see what will you cook up :)

06 June 2010, 10:06 AM
He-he, thank you very much guys! Really appreciate your words!
There are really great works among winners. As for me - well, I'll work harder next time.
Hmmm... When will be the next challenge? Tomorrow? The day after? :)

06 June 2010, 02:56 PM
Too bad, Peleng, I also think you deserved it. You'll make it next time then, for sure. Can't wait for that :)

You asked how to become judge: One way is to win a challenge.

06 June 2010, 08:39 AM
Maybe your idea was not so original but the painting style deserved at least to best dig. painting award. Big disappointment.

06 June 2010, 08:47 AM
I loved everything about your image Sergey. The idea was strong and beautifully painted. Your painterly style is just wonderful. I can't imagine that judging was anything but torturous for those involved. There were so many outstanding entries (and I do love the winner in this category - the idea and finish is outstanding), and yours was right up there among the best (at least in my opinion). It must have come down to a personal taste thing in the final stretch. Maybe they need a bigger array of smaller prizes to reward all the excellence - but then maybe the numbers wouldn't be so tempted to join in??

Bad luck on this one, but be consoled by the fact that you have ended with a fantastic and widely acclaimed image, that will be a superb addition to your wonderful portfolio. May the jurors look on you more kindly next time.

Best of luck - keep the images flowing.

 injustice...
I agree and makes sad...

06 June 2010, 06:47 PM
I really like, it reminds me of the anarchic nature of B Movies.

The 3D works really well, shame you lose the colours though.

06 June 2010, 07:50 PM
Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that your work is just too damn good for the contest folly of mere mortals.
Great work--as always.
 x10

Are you entering the NVArt–Accelrate contest?

06 June 2010, 06:43 AM
Wow, thank you guys for your kind words.
Yeap, there are a lot of great entries, and the winners show us a very well done stuff! And I must say that I really happy of being participating with the masters! And your words are just the best prize for me. Thank you!

Hey Bill, congrats to you! Some days ago I was thinking of entering Accelerate, but there is not much time left, and I'm veeeery slow:), so I made up my mind to wait the next contest.

06 June 2010, 11:33 AM
I'm new around here but I must say in my opinion this is one of the most awesome pieces of work i've seen! Congrats!
