Good luck for the challenge, lady! nice to see you around :)
01 January 2010, 09:44 AM
Thank you guys :)
Whenever I hear the word "B-Movie", I think of old horror movies. Initially I had several ideas, but now I've pretty much settled for this one idea I have :)
The Swamp Monster From Mars
I'm not dead set on the title yet though.
It's King Kong/Godzillaesque, and it will be located in London or Venice, and maybe in the retro future (the future as designed in the 50's) :)
This is going to be so fun :D

The Swamp monster from Mars - sketch.
It's a quickly sketched up idea. I haven't decided if it's a she holding a guy, or a a he holding a girl yet, but I'll get to that later on.
Is this idea too unoriginal?
01 January 2010, 05:18 PM
I definitely think the monster should be a she and the person in hand a he. The guy in her hand could even have the typical damsel in distress poses.
I think the idea is cool, but I think the perspective could be more interesting, like the camera could be almost in the hand of the monster looking up, with the clock tower lower in the frame, making the giant look totally terrifying, and you'd have a closer view of the DID (dude in distress).
Cool monster design!

Cool tina awesome , this time i hope to participate and do some work , plzz take care of me :D i cant wait to see ur work , yes as csmallfield said i think an exotic camera angle would be awesome , i like the monster it self
01 January 2010, 03:19 PM
Cool Idea. I think a more dynamic camera angle could help out the action a bit, but I looks like a great concept. Good luck!
Also are you going for 3d or 2d?
01 January 2010, 05:28 PM
Thank you guys. I made several doodles at work on different angles, but the lack of a scanner and not being in a tip top shape, I'll redraw the most interessting ones in Photoshop tomorrow :)
I'm going 2D :)
01 January 2010, 11:56 PM
I think that reversing the gender roles in the classic King Kong setup is a great idea. I hope you stick with it.
01 January 2010, 10:07 AM
I Like of you idea: Use the retro-future in you scene...
but, in you sketch i cant imagine how you will show cleary this concept. Maybe a aiplanes going explode the swamp monster? How you show us this scene?
good luck and go on!
01 January 2010, 09:13 AM
I put it in a more interesting angle.
I'm leaning more towards the alternative on the right although it's a more difficult angle for me. The dude in distress is more visible there and I think the composition is better.
I've also put on some retro-futuristic "aeroplanes"
01 January 2010, 11:19 AM
I like the one on the right much more... The composition lead your eye down through the scene & you can have some really interesting perspective to play with.
01 January 2010, 11:22 AM
I kind of like the right panel more as well as it shows the perspective and space quite well.
01 January 2010, 11:26 AM
I'm with AJ here, the right comp is much more dramatic. Love the idea too - and having a female monster holding the fearful guy is an excellent twist! You can do a lot of this I think and I'm looking forward too see it!
01 January 2010, 01:19 PM
yeah i love the right side view , or maybe a lil more birds eye view also might look kewl :D.
i like the the way how tht image focuses on the monster while the human in hand :D
01 January 2010, 01:29 PM
right image for sure, much more action! Nice angle!
01 January 2010, 02:01 PM
Nice camera angle, I like the right one for sure, it has nice framing and you can see the action very clearly.
01 January 2010, 02:06 PM
I would pick the right side as well, its very dynamic and the composition and perspective works great. I am sure you can get a great piece from that sketch. Best of luck to you
01 January 2010, 06:30 PM
Nice and colourful. :)
01 January 2010, 07:23 PM
I love it. Keep going.
01 January 2010, 07:31 PM
Neat perspective, the foreshortening of the creatures arm holding the little character is very effective.
01 January 2010, 08:05 PM
Cool concept, like a lot the composition and perspective on your last image, works really well :D
Looking forward for more updates. Cheers!!
02 February 2010, 08:07 AM
Like the dynamism and the chosen angle for the peice, cool start! ;)
02 February 2010, 12:18 PM
Thank you guys.
A lot of things have been going on lately, but it should have settled down a little. I should be able to do some ship designs when I get home. I know pretty much how I want it too :)
02 February 2010, 06:26 PM
I was going to draw more ship-concepts, but I got carried away whit this one and I'm pretty sure I'll go by it.
02 February 2010, 07:34 PM
Yes, go with it! It definitely has a retro feel to it and I like the colors! :)
02 February 2010, 08:16 PM
nice design! :)
it has a very authentic 50's look...
02 February 2010, 11:24 PM
 Giant city destroying aliens are a staple of modern entertainment. Never enough, so long as they have their own twist, and your certainly does. Sort of a Jetsons Vs King Kong vibe. That's never been done before.
Awesome ship design. Would be cool to add a bit of that retro funk to the building / cityscape as well. Maybe add some service droids blowing their fuses in distress.
Great idea and sketches.
02 February 2010, 01:19 AM
Really cool ship design, like a lot the retro styl on it :D The antenna is a cool touch.
Waiting for more updates. Cheers!!
02 February 2010, 01:51 PM
Nice ship Valentina! keep going in your good work!
02 February 2010, 03:16 PM
A lot of things have been going on lately, but I should have the time and energy to continue the challenge soon. However, I find myself uninspired to do this painting. As much as I'd like to finish it (and I hope I will eventually), I just don't feel it's challengy enough for me.
I have some other ideas involving bad puns about Bees and Zombees.
Hope to get them on paper soon :)
02 February 2010, 04:35 PM
puns about Bees and Zombees.
the bee-movie :)
i'm looking out for your next post!
03 March 2010, 11:20 AM
Basic sketch of the poster. I am pretty sure I'll change the colours and maybe also give them a more interesting additional light source. The idea is to have the ones in the background to slowly fade into the darkness maybe having only their silhouettes show.
03 March 2010, 09:44 PM
New concept. This time the cattle are abducting aliens. It's payback time!
