Theresa Ryan is entered in the "B-Movie" update: View Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Concept / pre-visualization: crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.

01 January 2010, 01:09 PM (

Interesting topic, I always loved cheesy movies.
Some inspiration first...I might do something along the lines of this picture. 'Here's something I did earlier on.'- 'Thing on the Subway'.

01 January 2010, 01:25 PM
This is great! I think that man reading the newspaper is distracted on some news about a monster in town... hehe

Good luck!

01 January 2010, 01:43 PM
Thanks, Ortegabh! I'm considering doing a sort of matte painting/collage style painting, mixing really obviously fake backgrounds with screaming people running away from things, etc....
Unfortunately I'm in my final semester in college now so I won't be able to put TOO much time into this, but I will do what I can- I need a way to relax, after all!

Let the mayhem start.

01 January 2010, 01:57 PM
The "thingy octopus" is like saying hey guys look at me. Because even if that thing is in the middle, each person still have their own thing. =)

01 January 2010, 02:03 PM
That thing is cute as heck <3

Weird looking octopus! that's lovely!

I had to quote this ...hehehe:D

Have fun lady !

01 January 2010, 02:07 PM
It's super cute, but I wouldn't want to touch it! I was looking over my shoulder on the train this mornig, just to be sure he/she wasn't lurking just out of view :) Nice work!

01 January 2010, 03:27 PM
That is excellent and the funny thing about it is I ride that metro lol. D.C. is doomed.

01 January 2010, 06:20 PM
Thank you everyone...yes, DC is DOOMED

and so is the rest of the world- didn't I mention that this fellow is hermaphrodite and as such can reproduce very quickly with any other octopus thingy he meets?? The subways will never be safe again!

I wish I could submit this for the challenge, but I did it before this challenge was announced and also it's only partially cg, so I'll have to come up with a new idea...

01 January 2010, 06:25 PM
Cool Idea ,, waiting to see more

01 January 2010, 12:47 PM
Just want to throw another idea in here before I forget--

I'm thinking of a guy in a spacesuit with his visor reflecting aT-Rex and velociraptors heading straight for him.

'DINOSAURS on MARS!!!111one!!!'

01 January 2010, 04:54 AM
Cute monster!
Good integration actually.
Dramatic camera angle too.

01 January 2010, 05:04 AM
You sktech have a very good light!!!

good job.

01 January 2010, 07:15 AM
'DINOSAURS on MARS!!!111one!!!'
Awesome! :D

01 January 2010, 07:21 AM
I like the concept of the octopus in train. :D And the pre visualize so far is quite awesome.

01 January 2010, 08:24 AM
Love the Dinos on Mars idea - let's see some sketches. Good luck and looking forward to see what you'll come up with.

01 January 2010, 02:09 PM

Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside. I like these new snacks, but they move and it's such a hassle getting them all back into my mouth. Next time, send ones that don't run away, k?

01 January 2010, 02:28 PM
That picture is really tiny. And its not obvious that thire on mars.
Come on Theresa, you can do better than that :)

Not a bad start though, choosing green for the dino color and the glassbowl helmet is very retro. keep it up

01 January 2010, 02:50 PM
I'm seeing stuff or the dinosaur actually as a globe on his head??
Very funny idea! heheh!

01 January 2010, 03:14 PM
Interesting concept to the last post...wonder why the monster has the helmet on..and able to fire?

01 January 2010, 03:56 PM
@Ladymedusa: I made it bigger and it's not really important for it to look like it's on Mars, just being in outer space should be sufficient to get the message across!
@Yongkiat: Because it's a cheesy B-movie, of course!
@JRGauthier: Thanks, that's the vibe I was going for.

I'd make the background look really obviously fake and make it look like the monster is being lit straight on, like it's a stop motion puppet. I'd also do some depth of field effects to make it look like the monster is gigantic ''in comparision'' to the rocketship...

01 January 2010, 05:24 PM
I like the dinosaur way better than the subway. I think you'd need to fully commit to the B-movie to pull it off though---show a human foot coming out from the ripped dino costume, show the boom mic or some actual lights entering the top of the frame, etc.
Keep it up!
I loved the dino breathing flames with his helmet on---that is really funny!

01 January 2010, 07:57 PM
Im feeling the Bmovieness...if it was black and white it would look very period :)

Nice one.

01 January 2010, 08:57 PM
Bouahah ! Funny !
You stole M & M's advertisment ?

01 January 2010, 08:11 PM
Which M&Ms advertisement would that be? I couldn't find it....
I've been very busy with college stuff- I have another idea, will try and post it up tomorrow.

01 January 2010, 11:06 PM
