My new model. 11 000 details, 1 200 000 polygons approximately, 4 months of work. Created using 3DS MAX standard modeling tools.

Large images are available:

awesome mechanics, I'm not keen on the colour one, but that's just because I don't like that minty green colour, the B&W one is very well done  you must be incredibly patient

I don't want to even fathom how you could design something so intricate. Nice work.... looks like a lot of dedication went into this piece.

How long did it take to render?

Have you looked at grasshoppers up close? I imagine you have, judging by the pic. They really are such intricate, delicate, robotic creatures. Like every insect, a tiny marvel of evolution. Its so nice I just wanna squish it.

Yeah.

Nice modeling, but I think that you could add different shades of green to your bot to make it less uniform.... good work

The Detail is more than amazing!
Iґve done a lot of technical modelling and robotic stuff too, but I never ever integrated THAT much mechanical stuff.....

4 months? To be honest: I would never have the patience to construct mechanical parts for 4 months on one model..

The only thing I would personally change is the rendering itself. A bit more contrast and a better lighting - man, make it look really photorealistic!! The model deserves it!!

Incredible.:applause:

08 August 2003, 10:20 PM
I must respect the amount of work and detail that went into this model, but isnt it a bit overkill? A lot of the detail could have just been created via bump map or displacement map instead of modeling.

Fantastic dedication, hard work etc. (and nice design too!) But there's no chance it'll be animated, is there?:surprised

If you do, you'll definitely need a tin can model.

I agree with some of the comments about the shading. It's cool that it is one color only but some different tones would be good too.

One darn fine model you've got there. But you should look into giving it some more detail. It looks too much like just a rough volume right now.

Yes, I'm kidding! Most people would pass out with convulsions before even having finished the legs of that thing... Impressive, to say the least.

Dear colleagues!

I apologize to answer too late. Thank you very much for appreciation of my artwork. If you want to know a bit more about the process of its modeling, you may visit that link:
http://www.rendernode.com/articles.php?articleId=82
I tried to describe everything there. The wireframe view is also presented.
"Flying Machine" is a non-commercial project. I haven't made an animation yet, the hardware upgrade is needed. The rendering with Cebas FinalRender took less than 8 hours (1600x968 pixels).
Sooth to say it's my first experience in the field of robot's modeling. Some of my artworks you can see at http://gkart.r2.ru/Gallery/Oleg/People.htm
The last images are shown on the top of page. Not all of them were based on my ideas. For example, http://gkart.r2.ru/Gallery/Oleg/People/Warrior.htm - this scene is made using Leonardo da Vinci's drawing.

Best regards,
Oleg Karassev (author)
