Well, first of all, hello fellow cgtalker's :P This is my first post although I've been lurking around for some time now. I started my 3d learning 6 months ago with tutorials and this is the first thing that I feel confortable showing to you. It's a building that I'll be using in the future for a demo reel. Here it is :

I plan to texture it later and give it a look like it's from a poor place with some stuff broken and things of the sort. My request is comments and crits, and maybe some pointers. I'm using Maya 5, rendered it with mental ray(if anyone knows why the shadows got all jaggied plz tell me).
-Is there any render for maya with sss?
-Is it possible to apply displacement maps with maya?
-And to do any of the above will I have to export it to other software if the first 2 questions are "NO" :P?(kinda thinking 3dsmax 5 with final render would do the trick)
I'm not gonna work it for something like 3 weeks because I won't have my computer, but I'll be around to see what you think.

You'll find a tutorial at pixho.
for best results with maya, you have to render it with mental ray.
The street lamp looks big to me. but if you want a cartoon style, keep it like that!

Thk for the inputs rollmops. Is it possible to give me the url to the website you mentioned(I don't know it). The street lamp is a "I don't know what to change but I feel I have to".
Either way, I'll see what I can do.
And by the way, the windos(at least the interior) change make each window unique.

I begun the textures yesterday. This is what I have until now(just the bricks lol)..I think it's pretty decent but hey, I'm still learning :blush: so any inputs will be nice.
I'll be posting some of the textures here(I'm working in a laptop that manages to have Photoshop but Maya hell no...). One doubt, that I have is to the texture work as tiles, do I need to do it from scracth focusing later on the tiles or I can pick any given texture and make it tillable(is it spelled this way? don't know)... anyhow, comments and crits are more than welcome.
