i did a robot rig. It is not transformers type but you can take help from this video. (Video quality is not good). First check how the object moves when u will move the control . This technique will help you most in transformers type of rig..

The issue with doing a transformers type character is making it so that it will fold up inside itself correctly to whatever vehicle it will be when it is not in humanoid form. The rigging should be the easiest thing. Any robot character that doesnt have geometry deforming in an organic way can be rigged by simple pivot point animation. That is to say that you build a main torso and then parent a null for each joint that would go to that torso (I.E. leftbicep rightbicep leftthigh rightthigh) and make sure that each of those objects have their pivot point on place you want them to rotate from (I.E. the shoulder socket and hips). You keep doing this until you get your whole figure. Attach the forearms to the biceps and the calves to the thighs etc... when you parent them all correctly it should work fine. I am sure there are many tutorials on pivot point rigging

a good diagram of this is at

:-D hope that helps
