I am currently a student enrolled in the Game Art and Design program at the Art Institute of Atlanta. I have always wanted to become a video game artist ever since I was a kid. I love to look at the galleries of the professionals on this site and the work is amazing to me. I am really trying to figure out what the game studios such as blizzard, bungie, lionhead and the others are searching for in new hires. I have just finished my first year at this school and I am just starting to learn some basic modeling in maya.
Are there any precautions that I need to take before my portfolio class in 2 years when I create my models? What would make a strong portfolio? What makes your portfolio better than the others to get that job? What defines a really good game model even with low poly count but good detail?
