View Full Version : Not Getting Dark Shadows With Mental Ray?

12 December 2009, 04:50 AM
I am trying to put one animated car into one image,I matched the perspective and did matched everything to make it look like the car belong in the image.

So,now I used the same Image as HDRI and and got pretty satisfying results but now I want to match the shadows,I am really confused!... I tried using directional light but I am getting very light shadows.

Is there anything that we can do....

I have one Plan but please tell me if I can execute it or not..

1.Resave the scene into new file.
2.Switch to maya software render.
3.I know pretty well to manage shadows in maya software.
4.I am Going to it as shadow pass.

Is it ok if I do it.

Please Comment.

Are you using the sun/sky node? If so, it automatically tries to push you into a linear lighting workflow. That is, it adds a photographic node which raises the gamma of your render.

To deal with this, look up linear workflow here in these forums.

No I am not using sun/Sky.
I am using HDRI (Image Based Lighting) and a directional light to set shadows.

Are you using Final Gather at all?

Perhaps post an example render, and it'll help us help you a little better?
