View Full Version : Make Lit Area on Geometry the source of a dynamic effect

I'm rather new to Maya Dynamics. For a class, I need to create a sizzle/smoke effect that emanates from light cast from a spotlight onto a character(Flashlight beam), as if the beam is burning the character. I thought about using a circle as an emitter, but I want the effect to seem as if it's actually from the projected light on the character and not just from a following shape.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all,

What you cant do currently is utilize any luminance values a light casts as a way to emit particles from a surface. Its a shame really. What you could try and do is to bake the luminance into a texture sequence and then emit from the sequence, thats one way.

There's plugin called stroika which allows you to do that.

Of course there's always Houdini :D
