View Full Version : Subdivision scheme without Renderman for Maya?

10 October 2009, 02:16 PM
Hi everybody, this is my first post here so apologies if I'm asking a really basic question! There's one feature in particular in Renderman for Maya I like which is the Catmull Clarke Subdivision scheme smoothing feature you can apply to poly objects, is this available in Mental Ray or Maya's Software renderer?

I'm not great at rendering and it'd be nice if I could get that option without having to buy Renderman for Maya, which for me would essentially just be for that feature.

I'm on Maya 2009 by the way if that helps

All the best!

Subdivision surfaces in Maya & MR already use both Loop and Catmull-Clark based algorithms. BTW, Prman added Loop Subdivs back in v12 which tend to be faster depending the model.
