Hello, noobie here. Can anyone attend this meeting and how many people do you expect to make it? I am currently working on my reel like crazy all this week (really need a 3D job, anyone hiring!?), but if I have enough coffee in me and the funds to make it out there I will most definitely be happy to join.

09-16-2009, 06:07 AM
I'm in.

It might be a good idea to create an email list that we can sign up for. I just happened to remember that the meeting was coming up and checked this thread. Otherwise I might have missed it.

Looking forward to the meeting, especially Vray-RT!

Hey, guys I will not be attending the meeting. I'm too swamped right now with work, I was really hoping to make it. Someone eat some pizza in my honor.

That's funny because I'm a pro dancer, and my crew is 1 of the best in the city.

Looking foward to seeing all of you there tonight!

Phaze 2, Crosstown Crew! I met a bunch of you guys before, like Phaze, Wicked, Smoke, Mr. Do, Shamrok, etc. I don't know too many of the current members aside from Brave Monk. I've been out of the loop for a very long time.

Anyone else show up late to the meeting and not allowed to go in? A friend and I were running late and arrived somewhere between 5-10 minutes after 6:30 and were not allowed to get past the downstairs lobby. Security received no word of the meeting at Flashpoint so we were not allowed to go any further. Frustrating! :banghead:

Yeah, it was pretty strict in that building. About a year ago, I was there for an IGDA meeting and it seemed pretty relaxed, but yesterday I noticed that they had 3 motion detectors just in the "Matrix" room. I liked the first venue for the previous meeting, but Neo’s Matrix room does have better equipment. You missed a big crowd as there were at least 3x more people than the first gathering. Though it seemed like some people didn't know what CGTalk/CG Challenge were which is kind of strange since it's pretty much one of the biggest forums/contest to find the best-of-best CG work. The quest for a free Ballistic book continues...

We had a great turn out for the second meeting of CGS Chicago. We had two great presentations.

-VRay RT
-Sketchbook Pro 2010

To those who came a bit late and couldn't get past security, my apologies to you. I had no idea how strict they were with the security, but that is understandable due to the vast amount of equipment and art they have in the facility.

As a note, although Flashpoint will be one of our future venues, CGS Chicago will be making arrangements to have future meetings in other locations as well.

I am hoping our last meeting for 2009 will be even better, as always I will try to lure you all there with swag and free food.
