Time ago "oljons (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=257428)" asked in this thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=5366255#post5366255) if he could use Mudbox in place of using Zbrush and Bodypaint. By what I read, people answered their opinion about Mudbox but didn't answer the real question (at least for me... maybe I'm wrong or didn't get it...).

So, I wanna know if I can use Mudbox (2009 or 2010) in place of Maxon BodyPaint 3D?

Thanks

YES, if you like...
give it a try... here is the trial...

and here two painting vids...

mudbox is really good if you need high image quallity...
cause mud is using the real resolution of the image (stencil) not the screen res...
and the clone brush is sampling the double screen res...

and you are able to paint 20 textures or more via the uv tile feature, seamless...
so you end up with a 80k texture if you wish...

yes as oglu said, you can use it for this.
anyway, mudbox lacks of layer blending and color correction filters, which is annoying.

also you can display normalmaps on you object all of the time, not like in BP3d where you can only display your normals, when turning around your mesh.

Interesting... seems I can retire BodyPaint definatly and use only Mudbox?

To use it like BodyPaint like you send the model from Maya (for exemple) to Mudbox, I just need the plugin and it will work exactly like the BodyPaint workflow?

MudWalker can pass the model data back and forth as you need yes.(The only place you can get MudWalker is on wwww.mudboxhub.com) I haven't used body paint in what seems like several lifetimes.

Bodypaint is indeed defunct now. Mudbox 2009 at least makes BP unnecessary, although Photoshop is still of course very useful to have around.

Mudbox is as much a joy to texture in as it is to sculpt in, for me. Very fluid and nice.

Thanks you all... things are more clear now...

DarthWayne: how can I download "MudWalk"? I took a look on the website but didn't find where to download it. Can you help?

I will try the new Mudbox (the last I used was version 1.07 - if I'm not wrong) with MudWalk and see how the workflow goes...

Thanks

MudboxHub Plugin Page
(http://www.mudboxhub.com/s/plugin)

Go to the 2nd box down marked 'Download'.
