Destroyed Building:

It can be of any era, any materials, style, what ever. You have to make it look destroyed, ruined or dilapidated. Fallen walls, blown off roofs, burnt structure, flooded foundations, bombed out dwellings, do your worst!

If you wanna do some diffuse mapping, bumping and that sort, thats cool. I love to see that stuff, but just remember this is a speed modeling challenge, so for the speed modeling portion, time will only count during the modeling process.
(if you want to use some dynamics/physics to pose fallen objects, you can do so after modeling without time restraints.) In my opinion, moving objects in a scene and creating them are 2 different things.

Lets try to keep the structure relatively small, we don't wanna blow up the Empire State building or anything... Lets make modeling time 200mins.

wow no one wants to participate, and i was the first guy talking :P, i been having some trouble with my pc, i think i over exploited my videocard -_- i might as well install maya on my bro computer, ill see if he lets me...

i will participate soon. have been working on a concept. (i hope its okay to do a paint over of an exsisting 3d render that somebody else created? i thought instead of drawing it from scratch i take his design, paint over it to create the decay and then work with that.
hope thats not against the rules.
i will be posting both images (source and my paintover) soon.

I have been celebrating my bday / work / getting ready to start back at school again (but I graduate in the spring finally) so I've been busy.

I am pretty disappointed I didn't get to work on my last challenge, but I'll try and get one in on this one if I have the time before the next challenge starts.

well i used around 120 minutes only, i really didnt knew what to do... as you can see its heavy inspired in the first picture >< i didnt even realized and i looked like that...
heres wired
and shaded
maybe ill try to put some shaders on them to learn some more and see the end result, i think this type of things is done mostly by the shaders.

nice waldo, and I must say you have inspired me to finally start mine. ic the true effect of the building crumbling where you got those diamonds doesn't come out until you apply them textures, or shaders. Seems like an efficient way to bring out the effect

Question: are shaders the same as bump maps?

heres mine, I also went for the square building, not enough time to get too fancy lol.
I went over time limit by 20 min without realizing it, sorry.

wow very nice nimbiot, you really nailed a really destroyed building, man i got a lot of trouble doing the building and i should have tweak a little those diamonds to get what i was looking for ><, it was my first time doing something more environmental it was really cool, ill love to do the center of my city one day :)
oh and by the way, no shaders aren't the same as bump maps as far as im concern, a shader its the color, transparency, bump map, reflection, and every other of those aspects, in other words its the spheres with the shading properties.

You guys did an awesome job! Had me scared that no one was gonna try it :argh:

OK, heres mine at 120. I started late last night before stumbling to bed. Bah, school + work = death to modeling time. :banghead: I used boolean operations. Prolly wont hold up as a model used in a game or anything else for that matter, but, for proof of concept, works fine.

thanks for the compliments guys. Yours came out pretty good josh. Let me guess, tornado? Never thought of using booleans for concept design, but it's a good idea, I may use it.

We should start narrowing our concept subjects from deviant art if we are going to be doing that one.

later on, I hope to have us doing simpler subjects like an apple, leaf, or an orange with all it's dimples and bumps, just so that we can really fine tune our skills where it counts.

I agree, I was gonna mention we should start talking about our next challenge. Nim, why don't you go ahead and startup the prep thread for SMC 16.

I think we should narrow it down to us all modeling the same exact thing.

Nice work everyone! I believe destroyed things are hard to model.
My winter vacations ended this week, so i couldn't participate on this one...
Maybe i'll try to do this one later.
