Hi, guys. I am trying to render a piano in 3ds max by vray. But once I render and find a lot of strange noise appearing even though I set the quality to high and set lesser noise.

I use 2 vray light setting on the right and left and 2 spot light.

Usually, what cause those white spots appearing when u render it?

This is an aliasing problem. I suggest you finding a video by Christopher Nichols "speed vs quality in vray" released by gnomonology. It's the best explanation of antialiasing I've seen.

ya, get the video tutorial suggested by mister3d. Or you may try to test with different combination under Render Option > Vray:
1) Image Sampler
2) Antialiasing filter

True. I think I still need some time to play around those setting though it is time consuming to render a good quality image sometimes.

I have been playing around with my model these days and this is what how it comes up. I change the bg to white colour as the piano is not very clear in dark place. Any comments would be appreciated.

Lower your noise threshold, but first make at least 1\12 subds. I usually set 1/16 for production and higher, and noise threshold is from 0,005 to 0,002.

thanks. I think it is better now.

I found this image from google. I am wondering whether vray can render sth like this. I mean that depth of field and the lighting part on the black and white key

That's a great reference image to shoot for! Approach one thing at a time:

First, work on the perspective. The camera in that shot is much closer to the keys, with a wider field of view.

Second, work on the specular highlights. They are usually the easiest to set-up, try to get the nice bright highlight on top of each of the black keys as in the picture.

Third, work on the reflections. If your scene is empty around the piano, you can just add a few extra polygon planes, with an incandescent material on them. They can be pure white, gray, a gradient, even an image map, whatever you want to see reflected in the piano.

Save the DOF for last. DOF can be really slow to render. If your software can do Bokeh effects (I think it can?) then try to get the highlights to bloom out into little beads of light as they fall out of focus, the way the highlights on some of the black keys do in that photo.
