View Full Version : bump mapping occlusion with mix20layer?

07 July 2009, 06:08 PM
I saw an old thread on the forum about using mix20layer to bump map occlusion and this works but my problem now is that the base lambertian layer is picking up colour and I want a pure b/w occlusion pass. What is a shader that can be used for the bump base layer but doesn't add colour or anything to the occlusion?

edit: I know you can remove saturation on the base layer with mix20 but I'm looking for a *purer* scheme of adding bump to the occlusion if it's possible without using displacement.

I'm not 100% sure what your after in terms of a final result, but have you tried using the bump combiner shader? This always worked for me.

no - I haven't. What's the shader network with ambient occlusion look like?

that depends... are you trying to extract it as a pass, or do you just want a plain occlusion + bump shader?

just an occlusion with bump shader

In that case i believe it was like this:

bump_map to >
- - - - - - - - bump_combiner > surface shader or mentalray material slot
amb_occ to>

where do I get the bump combiner? I don't see it listed - I'm on OS X

oops - nevermind. found it on Tom's site:
