View Full Version : 1 object too dark

Hello everyone,
I hope you can help me out with this strange behavior. I have an inhouse-scene and all walls but one render fine. The wall has the same material as the other walls, normals are ok, light-linking is ok. I switched off all lights and put an ambient light inside the room. While the others walls are really bright the one with the problem is close to black.

Is there something I have forgotten to check?

Post a pic. Initial thought, are there two faces occupying the same space? Z-Fighting in game parlance.

there's a serious bug in Maya 2009 with elliptical filtering that causes faces to become completely black for no reason whatsoever.

if you're using elliptical filtering on a standard file texture (iff, jpg, bmp whatever), if you make it a 32bit float texture the problem vanishes.

other than that post a picture so we can help more and maya version. more info.

Thank you very much Hamburger and cbamber85 for your input.

I followed your suggestions and searched for duplicated faces but there are none.
The wall has no texture assigned, just solid color. So, no filtering is used. Sorry about the missing informations. I use maya2009.

The first picture shows the output of a rendering with about a dozen lights wich are already adjusted to fit the scene-mood. The 2nd is a rendering with a single ambient-light with default attribute-settings.
And I noticed addictionally that the opposite wall and the ceilling has the same problem (3rd picture of opposite wall).

I am using mental ray, the material is a mia_material_x.
When I use a standard-lambert it renders without these problems. ( ( (
