View Full Version : mental ray standalone for maya and maya shaders?

Hi, my work will soon be upgrading to mental ray standalone for maya and I've got a few questions on my mind that I'm hoping someone could help answer?

will I still be able to use maya specific nodes such as blins, surface shaders, file texture placement nodes etc?

is exporting to a .mi an easy process, do they need be in any specific directory or location?

are there anythings i need to be aware of?

Yes, you can still use Maya shaders since they just get translated to mental ray shaders anyway when rendering with mental ray in Maya. Exporting the MI files is pretty straight forward and you can put them in whatever directory structure you want as long as the render nodes have access to them. Cheers!
