03-04-2004, 03:05 AM
did i read someone ask what is robotech? blasphemy !!!!!!!!!!!!

robotech is the only anime i have ever seen that it worth watching

i got the all the dvd box sets
Macross, Masters and the New Generation

...from robotech website...
... in a nutshell:

ROBOTECH is a sweeping science fiction anime epic spanning three generations of humans defending their homeworld against alien domination. The story of ROBOTECH is told through the eyes of characters caught up in a series of wars that erupts when a mysterious spacecraft crash-lands on Earth at the turn of the millenium. Rebuilt by the nations of the world, the secrets of the alien science found aboard the vessel were unlocked, leading to the development of "Robotechnology" and the creation of a vast arsenal of robotic "mecha" to defend the Earth against the alien threats that would eventually strike in three separate invasions to lay claim to the mysterious power source known as "protoculture."
New to the Robotech Saga?

ROBOTECH has often been called a "space opera" because it is not just action-packed entertainment, but also an engaging drama.

Ps. all i saw was the first page of the thread and i see its like 17 pages long ... so if this has beeen said 100 times .. sorry

Robotech is the only animated show I know that is able to get people like a Doctor Space Physicist from a company like Computational Physics, Inc. as a contractor for the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory's Space Science Division or a nuclear engineer working for the MIT to spend a lot of time to write stuff for it, like fanfics, timelines, and mechas statistics, including official Robotech info. Or the only one I know that is able to get a 50 piece national symphonic orchestra from the goverment of a distant country (the one I live) to play its themes

About the new Robotech videogame, its placed in the New Generation era, a First Person Shooter where you are able to fly a Robotech cyclone armor (a motorcicle that turns into a soldier armor) and where Alphas and Betas have a secondary role

About Macross Zero, its actually part of the japanese Macross universe, no Robotech. Stuff like this new Robotech videogame or this cg proyect topic doesnt have a relation with it.

True but the oringinal Macross was very similar to Robotech. Robotech was based after Macross in the first place. So technically speaking you could count Macross Zero as the prequels to Robotech as well. Both series had it's merits although I wouldn't recommend Macross 7 to my worst enimies.

03-04-2004, 11:45 PM
Not really. The official and canon Robotech prequel is the Robotech comic from Wildstorm "From the stars" (http://www.robotech.com/store/viewproduct.php?id=118 (Link)) which follows the Robotech storyline, I know this very well because Im moderating the official robotech board robotech.com

Macross Zero follows the japanese Macross universe story, with events and concepts which are quite different to the Robotech ones and it doesnt fit in its continuity. Both the people who makes Robotech and the one who makes Macross agrees Macross Zero isnt part of the Robotech Universe but of the Macross one.

Thats very similar to the first part of Robotech its true, because it uses very similar mecha designs to the first part of Robotech, but thats where the similarities end. Cg speaking probably is the best cg around for those designs.

Nice models. It's neat that you rig too (my favorite part is making the models moveable). Anyhow, I found this forum doing a search and since it still seems to be active...

Anyone know where I can find good blueprints/schematics of the SDF-1? I've been all over the web and have a bunch of pics now, but they seem to vary a bit, plus I have no good side or back pics. I want to model the SDF-1 for class. I'd prefer online pics, but if there's an art book with it....

 :D wish i could make sumting like that ...

My God that is sweet!

I only hope for two things. First, this is available on the PC (for modding purposes), and Second , that you get to fly an Alpha fghter and blow up clam transport ships filled with 200 invids at a time! :D

My team member is making a SDF-1 for us. There is a GREAT discreptancy between it's canon stated lenght 3/4 of a mile (1200meters) and how it looks in the series next to skyscrapers and mechas (plus the city INSIDE of it).

BattleStar Galactica suffers from this problem as well (different shots make it look smaller or larger depending on what is on it, inside of it, or next to it. So we CAN'T go by any cannon or non-cannon published numbers. We can ONLY go by what the finished model looks like in game.

Texture test:

This is more what the model WIll look like:

The SDF-1 has several flight bays on each side of the bow. If we allowed this it would make the SDF-1 ridiculusly huge (like over 10000meters long). So we are limiting it to 4 bays on each side. (this will make it between 2400 and 4000 meters long) So despite the actual stated number of 1200meters the fact we can see a fighter landing in one of the bays proves how huge the ship would actually be if it were to be made for real.

ref 1

ref 2

ref 3

ref 4

Don't forget 70,000 civillians rebuilt theri city (including many skyscrapers) in the main area inside the fortress (plus they built roads and had MANY personal vehicles adn trafficjams). Honestly what captain would allow space to be wasted on a ship to build ROADS FOR CARS?
(Sorry for the Highjack!)

Dear Robotech / Macross fans,

Just wanted to let you guys know about a new and exiting
project to create a 3D rendered Robotech movie. As such,
we are looking for anyone that may help us with 3D models,
sounds and technical information. If you know anyone that
may help us out then please notify them.

Last Robotech Invasion picture

Mike, i've seen your stuff on the RDF HQ website, now I see your stuff here.
To say i'm impressed is an under statement! WOW!
Hoping to see a full animation from you soon!

From a Jr. lightwaver to a Sr. lightwaver, your work is why I strive to improve!

Oh and Daidalus, man you get around! lol

07-20-2005, 01:01 PM
Robotech is a marvellous sciencefiction saga and this images are exciting pieces of art.

07-21-2005, 11:44 PM
The Robotech movie is already in post production which means the animation is done, and there are some images of it out

A shame the thread starter isnt officialy involved with Robotech, apart of the people of the Robotech licensed videogame company who asked him to work in the former Robotech Videogame, recently a Robotech producer/writer was asking references of him to some fans after seeing his reel

Wow, this thread is still going? Sorry I've haven't had time for my little robotech creations lately. I've been busy with Andromeda and Stargate. :) Hopefully I'll be able to get back to them eventually.

Just a quick hello Mike :)
Long time no speak ;)

I've heard you were looking for references and Robotech 3d models, specially New Generation ones, talk to this guy (Ryan Samuels), he's a Robotech fan, he's also from Canada, and he was making also a Robotech New Generation based animation

He's user "Duma" here.

There's also this Robotech group that has over 100 Robotech 3d models made by several modelers, they have Alphas, Invids and Shadows too. http://www.uegroup.scherdan.com (http://www.uegroup.scherdan.com/)

They recently released a detailed picture of a Sentinels / Pioneer mission era Robotech vessel, you might wanna try to make it because it's placed in the time of your movie

There's a compilation of Robotech New Generation 3d art also here

thanks for the reference. However, Ryan/Duma's models don't really fit the same style as his cyclone mode is more stylized.

here is a quick test of my scout model:

10-30-2005, 12:02 AM
It looks very nice. In the late Robotech comics & productions there are pictures of Robotech mechas from the Sentinels period (Invids, humans, Masters/Zentraedis) There is an Invid you havent made yet that it's a variation of this last one you posted too, and new cyclones. Posting the stuff here is gonna overload the topic, but perhaps you have a way for them to be send, however here it's a very good site for Robotech Invasion (videogame) reference stuff

Mike RB

A bit more from the same clip:

10-31-2005, 05:02 PM
Are you planning making more models or you are gonna make the movie with the ones you already have?

10-31-2005, 05:55 PM
Mike, that second test animation with the atmosperic elements and the invid flying by looks great!

Any chance of getting you to post in the RDFHQ site, link below?

Maybe get a discussion going on about the movie your making? Maybe share tips on animating and modeling with the other 3D modelers on the site?

Really looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!
