BMW M3!!!! You've picked a nice car!

0-60 in 4.8 sec

Are you using splines? Can't wait for the tutorial.

07-26-2003, 10:21 PM
That's 0-60mph in the U.S. - about 100km/h elsewhere.

07-26-2003, 11:45 PM
KOOL!

07-26-2003, 11:47 PM
Looks really cool!

Are we going to be getting adds or will it be hosted somewhere else?

It's done poly by poly (correct me if I'm wrong).

Looks Awesome!

I was actually trying to use the cobra tutorial to model an M3, thinking the ideas would be the same. Thank you very much for creating the tutorial, ill be looking forward to it.

07-27-2003, 09:07 AM

Can you estimate when the whole tut will be ready for "publishing" so we tuthungry bugs can start working ?

07-27-2003, 06:08 PM
Hey Will
thanks! you are doing a huge work!
i was wondering how many pages it will be, and if you are thinking to create some zipped version to be downloaded. at the end

also I think Newtek must host your tut!!!!

07-28-2003, 10:04 AM
i suggest u can put the tutorial in the interactive tutorials section in lightwave group

07-28-2003, 10:29 AM
Seems quite detailed.

Keep going.

07-28-2003, 01:30 PM
hey, if one of the mod's reads this could you change the thread name?
i would rather it were "preview/progress of my car tut"

07-28-2003, 02:05 PM
thanks guys

i'm working flat out at the moment, i'm aiming for a release before the summer holidays end (about 6 weeks from now), if it goes over that then i'm not sure when it will be fiunished because most my spare time will be taken up by gcse's/coursework etc.

it will probably be at least 35 - 40 pages, if i go into the interior/texturing/rendering it may be well over 100!. if i go into the other parts (interior etc) i'll probably have them separate, that way i can release the exterior modeling first otherwise it will take a long time to get out to you guys.
at the moment i have very little idea of how it's going to be

07-28-2003, 03:12 PM
Hmm this is starting to sound too good. It will be free, right?

07-28-2003, 03:43 PM
it will be about $50....

naa, only kidding, it will all be totaly free.

07-28-2003, 04:44 PM
Do not hesitate to contact guys at lwg3d.com.
They first hosted the world famous Lewis tutorial in their Interactive Tutorials.

Cool to see talented people taking time to teach not so talented people. Thanks u very much :)

07-29-2003, 02:02 AM
looking really great so far man

should be a fun tutorial

have you thought about doing a video tutorial?
cause that would work out really well and then have newtek host it on their site cause right now a bunch of the tuts they have arent so great

and im sure if your tut is as good as it looks they will host it for you

07-29-2003, 01:17 PM

i did think about doing a video but i have no idea how, and it would end up one HUGE file!!

i'm wondering whether to upload what i have done already , and then just updating it once a week or something, that way you guys wouldn't have to wait another 2 months to get hold of it.
(thanks to anarki for suggesting it)
the only problem would be that uploading 80 mb on a 56k dial up will take a while.....lol.....
What do you think?

here's a slight progress:
here (http://www.geocities.com/will3d1988/tut_wip_02.html?1059479272338)

here (sorry aboput the adds) (http://unknown.fcpages.com/tut_car_02)

just over 15 pages, and 115 pictures.

i can tell you, writting this makes you realise how much effort goes into modelling a car (or anything alse for that matter),
it's just when you're so used to it you kind of zoom through it and not think as hard about everything, your brain sort'a does it all automatically. (well, thats what i've found anyway...)

07-29-2003, 01:37 PM
80 megs with 56k? Man, you're crazy! If my calculations are correct, that will take about 4 hours :)

07-29-2003, 01:53 PM
looks very very nice, thanx for your effort.... u will put up a .pdf version or just .html pages ?

07-29-2003, 03:48 PM
I think step by step publishing is a good idea.
Lewis´ tut was also divided into several chapters and published when one part was ready.

So you get feedback about what you´ve done so far and how people can follow your "instructions".....

You´ll see if you have to go into some things more or maybe even less deeper...could be also a timesaving point...

well in the end it ´s your choice what to do :)

07-29-2003, 06:43 PM
ahh, i just found out that the file being 80 megs was because of backup files. the ms word document is only 15 mb and thats with all those little thumbnails.
if i sent the file out the thumbnails wouldn't be there (only a little number telling which image should go in that space) so it woiuldn't come anywhere near that amount, probably only 3meg (max) for the file and 15 meg for the images.
Well, thats far far better!!

not sure about what format it will be.

some good points there shakey!

07-30-2003, 09:40 PM

the kind people at eeye.us are putting what i have of the tut on their site!! woo hoo!!
it should be up in a few days!

now i can see if all my hard works paid off....

Here's a little update,

here (http://www.geocities.com/will3d1988/tut_wip_03.html?1059597039786)
mirror (http://unknown.fcpages.com/tut_car_01.html)

the file thats being uploaded takes you up to just before this point.

07-30-2003, 10:10 PM
really nice !
I´m looking forward to it.

08-08-2003, 08:08 PM
YAY!! the basic shapes finished!!!

now it's time to start adding proper detail! i'll start with the front and work down the car. i cant wait, it's going to start looking sooo cool!!

Well, fingers crossed it should only be another couple of days until it's online (as an interactive tut on lwg3d!!!)

i'm thinking of re-writting the first few pages. i was aiming for it to be easily followed be begginers, but now i read through i think i've taken the begginer thing it to a whole new level:surprised

08-08-2003, 08:09 PM
and a front view...

08-08-2003, 09:30 PM
That is outstanding! :applause:

Can't wait to see the tutorial.

Well done.:buttrock:

08-08-2003, 10:24 PM
that's really kewl.

have you spoken to William (Proton) about your tutorial.

I did a head modeling tutorial that came in pretty hefty as well and Newtek gladly assisted and put it on their site. I'm sure you would be able to work something out. That way you'll also reach a lot more people because the tutorials for LW are all in the same place.

08-09-2003, 07:07 PM
it's been uploaded!! just waiting for the e-mail from the guy at lwg3d saying hes put it up.

i havn't spoken to proton yet. it's already going to be hosted by 2 different sites, (lwg3d, and eeye.us) would i need it on newteks site as well??!!!

08-10-2003, 10:05 AM
just can't wait for your tut !

08-10-2003, 10:32 AM
well, slight delay, it's for the better though. the first few pages are loads better than they were. just waiting for the html to get updated.

08-10-2003, 01:58 PM
is that last link correct?????

about your car progress???

08-10-2003, 02:10 PM
what, the one in my sig? that just takes you to this thread.

08-10-2003, 02:27 PM
ah....i see :applause: :applause:

wondering if your tut was up on line.

08-10-2003, 02:55 PM
no, sorry. i havn't heard from the guy yet, (although he's probably not up yet..) i'll be sure to post the link when it's up.

08-11-2003, 11:23 AM
