My studio usually deals in the end product... that is, images or animation. Not 3D assets. However, we were recently contracted to produce an image as well as the assets... and the client requested Maya files.
We could do it, but I'd rather subcontract to someone who is more familiar. The Maya person I have is principally a rigger/animator, and isn't very familiar with shading... which means it would take us more time, without a guarantee of high quality.
We're currently in the modeling phase, using Modo. Shading should begin later this week.
The scene should use some SSS and a pearlescent effect.
