Latest Update: Final Image: A Usurper's Masquerade (

06 June 2009, 01:49 PM (

First concept, not too sure about it but better than ought else I had in mind. A spy working for a company blows up rival company HQ is the basic premise of it. Set on Mars, so those two blobs you see in the back are Phobos and Deimos.

Any advice would be welcome as I'm not sure where to take this.

06 June 2009, 02:41 PM
Nice shot.

I like the flow of the scene. The guy in the right part of the frame might be a little distracting as he is taking up a lot of the foreground. I would probably just pan the camera to the left to include more of that cool car. Maybe have him half getting into the car as he throws away his cig?

Cool idea though! Can't wait to see more.

06 June 2009, 03:13 PM
thats realy nice. love the concept. maybe have it look like the shock wave has just hit. so the characers hair is flowing away a little... just an idea.

cant wait to see more.

06 June 2009, 04:11 PM
Like the concept.. looking good :applause:

06 June 2009, 05:23 PM
Cool Idea, mars always reminds me of total recall. I'm a fan of the dude in the foreground. I think if he's in the story, like a counter agent or something, it can justify his presence a bit more. I like that you have the standard three points of focus(agent, explosion, foreground man), it balances your composition well, but the foreground man is a bit heavy. Just to see, try lowering the camera, so that all you can see is the foot of the foreground man, maybe combined with rotating the camera like suggested above.

good luck.

06 June 2009, 07:29 PM
'Love the sketch.

06 June 2009, 07:41 PM (

Still not sure really. Made the car a bit more of feature on this one, but I think I want him to be just a little more blended in, more crowded walkway maybe. Another view I'm considering is him inside the car, with explosion in background.

06 June 2009, 07:44 PM
I really like your second one. Your sketches look awesome.

06 June 2009, 07:49 PM
This last sketch is the one I prefer; I'd more than likely keep him out of the car. I like this so far!

06 June 2009, 07:57 PM
Very nice. The POV of this second sketch is really nice.

06 June 2009, 07:58 PM
Thanks for the replies guys, wonder what you think of the idea of removing the car from the focus, and maybe making it much more crowded so he's less conspicuous? So it'd be a similar viewpoint with lack of car and many more people around him, perhaps slightly closer shot.

06 June 2009, 08:06 PM
I Like the car. And I like the fact that he is so conspicuous and yet he's calm cool and collected as he walks away. It looks to me like he is calmly taking a last couple puffs on his cig before getting into the car and making his get-away.

06 June 2009, 08:25 PM
You may be right there crazy3dman, il have to play about with it. Maybe the scifi aspect needs pumpin up just a little lol, so i guess il just play around with it a bit.

06 June 2009, 09:02 PM
I like your new sketch. It reads a lot better. My vote would be to keep the car. It's off to the side enough that it doesn't distract the eyes. I feel sorry for the dude in the middle of the explosion.

06 June 2009, 12:30 AM
Great new sketch with the lowered camera. Wow! I would keep him out of the car to keep a good balance on the shot, with him lowered in the car, it flattens all the points of interest. I can't wait to see what you do next. as far as keeping the car out of focus, try just a small redesign on headlight to tone it down, and keep the headlights off, imho the focus of this should be the explosion.

06 June 2009, 04:21 AM
I like the last sketch, the car and the guys in the right balance de frame. And the main character is well done in his expression. Maybe, I think, if you move down 1/4 the angle you get a more dynamic frame, it will not see the floor and it will be more sky to bring the moon a little to the left like a real witness. Just a suggestion. ;)

06 June 2009, 04:39 AM
Great Sketch. I definitely liked the latest best. I think you have the right amount of subject in the scene - well balanced.
Looking foward to see what happens next.

06 June 2009, 05:32 AM
I really like this concept. I love how chill the protagonist is amidst the chaos of the entire scene. Love the 2nd sketch, too. Makes the whole story very easy to read with just an initial glance. Subscribed to this one for sure!

06 June 2009, 01:48 PM (

Blocked in some colours, turned the headlight off and shifted some people about. not sure what to do with the building to the right. Figure it should be a bit neo-tokyo, with plenty of ads and neons. Far background buildings wont be so distinctly in proper painting. Might lower the cam but I kinda like maybe having the explosion and stuff reflecting off a wet floor.

06 June 2009, 02:01 PM
I like the last scetch.. it gives more understanding of what is going on.. I like it! :D

06 June 2009, 06:25 PM
You are right, the reflection will add a nice visual element to the composition. It reminds me the start scene of the movie Childrens of man

06 June 2009, 09:23 PM
Height feels ok at the moment IMO. It's got the classic cool guy not looking at explosion feel to it.

Lot's of ref here.

06 June 2009, 09:31 PM
LOL at that vid, originally i intended him to be much more low key whilst not looking at the explosion ;p but he just turned into an emalgamation of everyone from that vid lol. thanks for posting the vid by the way, was funny.

posting a small WIP soon of his face

06 June 2009, 10:14 PM (

Not too great but still WIP anyway. Probably reposition some fingers and stuff later :)

06 June 2009, 10:46 PM
Looks really great, really like the looks of it.
I had kind of the same Idea but I just couldn't visualize it, but yores looks great good job.

06 June 2009, 10:54 PM
cheers mr carl, i remember you from avatar :) think i was CLP on there..

good luck on this one!

06 June 2009, 10:58 PM
that is the face of a assassin :D

06 June 2009, 11:08 PM
cheers mr carl, i remember you from avatar :) think i was CLP on there..

good luck on this one!

yea, yea I remember, nice to see you here to.
good luck man, I will be checking this one for shore :)

06 June 2009, 11:20 PM
Question, as the stage is Mars, and those are phobos and deimos up there, im really tempted to tinge the sky red, but if the world was terraformed like the scene suggests colours would be more akin to earth. wonder if anyone has an opinion on this, i am making it a bit more scifi when i can. thanks. :)

06 June 2009, 11:30 PM
The city could be under a crystal dome, in that way you can make the sky red

06 June 2009, 03:07 PM (

Colours are a bit vibrant, probably tone them down somewhat and make it a little more cinematic. Notmuch done on it really just worked on the spy.

06 June 2009, 03:26 PM
Love it more and more ! want to see it finished :)

06 June 2009, 09:23 PM (

Did some work on the car. Not finished though i better move onto other stuff for now. Removed some background colours for now too. :)

06 June 2009, 09:46 PM
Coming along really nicely man, the car looks awesome, great work.

06 June 2009, 12:35 AM
thats a very good one mate,i like the direction ur going with, looks almost like in a movie scene

06 June 2009, 12:55 AM
Thanks for the comments guys, I am trying to make it more cinematic, still a long way to go yet! lol Thank god uni is over otherwise I don't think I'd finish this thing.

06 June 2009, 02:31 AM (

Plonked in a filtered version of another painting i did, on the right as an advert within the scene. Colours are slightly chaotic, probably tweak it all later. :) Sleeptime

06 June 2009, 05:22 AM
I'm liking how this one is turning out. Very nice action scene. I think you lost something in the car though. It's looking more like a Halo helmet than the front end of a car. Maybe you need to turn it a bit so we can see at least one wheel (or hover-pod). That way it'd be obvious that it's a vehicle.

06 June 2009, 05:32 AM
I love the story man, it looks sweet. Walking out while smoking then boom!!! horror seen...bystanders looking in shock don't know wtf is going on, lol. sweet man hope to see it completed, good work..

06 June 2009, 05:52 AM

I just had to ;)

06 June 2009, 06:18 AM
this is getting better and better. Much better with the dark colors

06 June 2009, 10:29 AM
Amazing...I love the expression of the character..Cant wait to see this one end!

06 June 2009, 10:45 AM
mr carl thx for the video ! really funny :)

06 June 2009, 10:58 AM

I just had to ;)

:D 10 points

06 June 2009, 12:36 PM
really liking your illustrative style. your piece is coming along very nicely!

06 June 2009, 01:48 PM
Thanks for the support guys, Kirt I agree about the lack of vehicle indication, it didnt, in the outline i had like a hover unit thing goin on but then for some reason i removed it lol. However il pop it back on when I get the chance.

06 June 2009, 10:40 PM (

More background detail added, no outline on so some parts look bare.

06 June 2009, 10:42 PM
Nice!Reminds me a moment fron Children of man..great dramatic looking:thumbsup:

06 June 2009, 10:55 PM
Thanks man, can you specify which scene maybe? Someone mentioned the comp reminded them of children of men before but i dont remember much of the film. Probably scan through it again sometime.

06 June 2009, 10:59 PM
Itīs at the very first scene from the movier, when Theo(the main character) come out from a bar and when he lights his cigarret, a big explosion destroys part of the street.
Worth a will be great for your scene i think. The lighting and colours looks awesome in the movie.:D

06 June 2009, 11:10 PM
Thanks for the info man, totally forgotten that bit, guess the bit i really remembered was the 2-3 min continuous action shot lol. But i will be going back to check that out, thanks again.

06 June 2009, 11:32 PM
Still a big fan of this one, I like the toyko, timesquare feel it's getting.

06 June 2009, 03:43 AM
Here is my very humble opinion. I really like it, but the sketch on post #8 is my favorite. The difference between what you have now and that sketch is the scale of of the people getting blown up. The larger scale of the sketch pulled me into the scene more, as it felt like the spy was closer to the action. The other thing I noticed was that the explosion is going to give off a LOT of light, and I don't see any of it reflected off of other surfaces, especially the car.

06 June 2009, 01:55 PM (

Added some smoke to the explosin, did more lights in the distance and adjusted some other stuff, gave him a glove. What kinda secret agent would leave prints everywhere ;p

Thanks for the opinion TBart, I resized the people gettin blown up lol, looks a little better than before i think, as for the light reflections I'll probably leave those until I've finished painting some other bits

06 June 2009, 02:59 PM
there is not much to say but....Just cool.

06 June 2009, 09:46 PM
Thanks OZ, still got absolutely loadsa refining to do, but just got back from a bbq so painting this will be a nice break ;p:arteest:

06 June 2009, 01:37 AM
good scene setup. looking forward for more updates :) Best of luck.

06 June 2009, 01:30 AM (

Still plenty of detailing to do, unfinished background characters lol. But i got tired so i jus did a copy with some focal blur here and there, put the black bars in...

EDIT: size of the pic here doesn't exactly help with showing blurs since its so small lol, nevermind.

06 June 2009, 02:15 PM
great concept man and my suggestion is the upper part of the shop doesn't seem to be destroyed so i think u should add some explosion on C.O.R.P(shop board)

All the best

06 June 2009, 10:51 PM (

Not too much left to do on this one now.. added in some sign damage as suggested by ergonomic, which i thought was a good idea but it dont look too good, probably redo that later. However I'm tired of looking at this one now lol, might do a few other concepts then come back to this later.

06 June 2009, 11:14 PM
Looks great man, looking foreword to some more concepts.

06 June 2009, 02:10 PM (

Well heres a new concept, absolutely no idea what the story is, just thought it looked kinda cool. The thing I missed in the old concept was gunplay, i like drawing gunplay :) Probably do a few more ideas now.

06 June 2009, 03:13 PM
wow the dynamic is.... amazing and cool :)

that is one of my favorite sketches !

keep it up !

06 June 2009, 03:26 PM
Thanks platernity, like I said I like drawing action and gunplay the most really and having spent a week painting that slightly more spy/espionage piece I felt the need to just tear stuff apart, with gunfire lol. Bit inspired by the flashback scenes in Cowboy Bebop for this one, might do some alternative angles or widen the shot a bit. any suggestions on composition for a gunfight would be welcome.:scream:

06 June 2009, 04:11 PM
Cowboy Bebop....lordie, I haven't been able to see any of those in forever.

Though, your scene there does inspire the idea to find them again! I definitely like how the idea has come about, and the gunplay sketch has fantastic dynamics in it as well. Love the POV, by the way.

06 June 2009, 04:54 PM
If you have skills for animations, i think your style could give something amazing like Ghost in the Shell :)

With less manga style (manga is boring after a while...) !

And with incredible dynamic !

06 June 2009, 05:04 PM
I was considering doing a video entry, just thought I wouldnt have the time, especially as i would almost certainly do it in 2d, to get a bit more dynamic action out of it lol. Plus my 3d skills aint brilliant lol. I do have all summer with little to do so i might try animate it, let you guys know how it goes ;p:buttrock:

To DarwinsMishap, dig em out and watch em again, and shed a tear at the end. again. ;p

06 June 2009, 05:12 PM
Awesome stuff. The last sketch is my favourite too.

kee it up:beer:

06 June 2009, 12:25 AM (

Well I turned the last concept into a kinda comic thing, not that great, probably wouldnt do the final ting as a comic format but it does allow bit more stoytelling. Exfiltration gone wrong is whats happenin here ;p. Bustin outta the HQ in style.

06 June 2009, 12:28 AM (

Wrong image uploaded before lol! Sorry dudes.

06 June 2009, 12:37 AM
i kinda like the idea of maybe a comic like feel to it at least cause im also thinking story. Like they said how when you look at it you need to be able to tell what the story kinda is by looking at it. Maybe with a comic like look you can paint the story a bit more clearer to the audience than a gun fight. Maybe you can show why their is a gun fight going on or the other guy the gun fight is going on about or something like that.
I really like the gun fight scene, very action!
I also liked the one with the guy walking from the explosion too. Real men walk away from explosions ;)
but i did like it though. had a nice over all concept to it and it was easy to understand and read which i also think is important.
I like both ideas so far cant wait to see more stuff.

06 June 2009, 05:45 PM (

Well I just went back to the old one and worked on it a bit, would like to know what people think should be added or taken away, even small details which could make it cooler.

06 June 2009, 05:57 PM
I am thinking the cigarette should have a warm light and a bit of smoke coming from it. Also, if you could show the back windows of the car exploding that might be cool too.

06 June 2009, 06:54 PM
I think its pretty fine - maybe show the left hand stuffing away some trigger device into the pocket - but that only makes it even more obvious... just thinking

06 June 2009, 07:26 PM
Thanks for the suggestions guys,

nikolstein- I'll probably add smoke and glow to the cig, though i think the car is too far from the explosion to be affected like that, but i might add another car behind this one which is being blown away.

obux- the original plan was that he had a trigger in that hand inside the pocket but since the hand cant be seen the trigger cant either, but like you said havin the trigger hand pokin out might make it kinda obvious and as blatantly badass as he's tryin to be :buttrock:... lol having a trigger out revealin himself to be the bomber to everyone in the scene is a bit overboard ;p

any more small detail suggestions would be welcome :wip:

06 June 2009, 08:39 AM
Looking great so far, its got a Blade Runner esq feel to it, I like it, will be watching this one develop!

06 June 2009, 10:58 AM
just a bit of smoke it think. your progress is really fast, with really great drawing.

06 June 2009, 04:55 PM (

Added some smoke to him, but I'm probably gunna try some new concepts again and stuff, maybe work up an idea around that shootout scene I did earlier and use this scifi corporate espionage thing as a fall back plan lol, thanks for guys who helped me along with this one.

06 June 2009, 10:43 AM
If the car bit is suppost to be in front of him, it doesnt look like it. Looks as if its behind him and HUGE.

Are you re-drawing the advertisments or are you just using your old pictures and copying em on.

06 June 2009, 11:06 AM
Yeh gracie i get what u mean about the car, doesnt quite feel like its to the side. As for the ads most of em are jus old paintings popped in aside from Cola CORPs sign. lol:D If you know any way of making the car look like its to his side thatd be great (question also goes out to anyone else reading this :buttrock:

06 June 2009, 05:15 PM
The car is supposed to be on his side? Yeah, it does look like it's slightly behind him. I would check to see if the perspective is correct, as it's difficult for me to tell with the stylized car shape (maybe the front of the car would be larger, moved to the left, and the side of the car would be more visible?). I would also rethink the reflections on the car, where they are coming from, are where the guy's shadow will fall on it.

06 June 2009, 05:51 PM
how bout if you add the agent shadow to the car. since the light are from the opposite side of car. so it must be a agent shadow on the car, if the car is on his side. maybe??

06 June 2009, 08:09 PM
Hey, I like your image. I love the explosion area. maybe to add depth you could add some atmosphere to the background buildings?
keep up the great work!

06 June 2009, 10:16 PM
Thanks for your comments guys, though this will probably be my backup concept i would like to finish it even if its justa portfolio piece in the end.

TBart, wick3dsono and gracie - it's likely I'm just gunna totally redraw the car for better perspective and positioning. It needs much more light reflection on it and the area where his shadow would appear is also lit from the signage on the right so its gonna be hard to make it look right but I will do it! lol:buttrock:

HFix - I definitely need to do up the background buildings a bit, maybe add some more vehicles about the place to make the city look alive.

Anyway Il probably do all this tomorrow, gonna play some games lol. And of course work on more concepts... ;p

06 June 2009, 12:42 AM (

Redid the car a bit, added some light glow in the background... progress might be slow now as I justed entered video category with DaftChicken ;p

06 June 2009, 07:02 PM
The car is looking much better, good job.

06 June 2009, 02:00 AM
Looking good. Maybe the explosion need a little more work, more shining.

06 June 2009, 03:45 AM
Your very skilled. I love the concept. Keep it up.

06 June 2009, 05:15 PM (

Just a quick concept... probably not one il take much further unless somethin cool to do with it comes to mind. Another take on explosions ;p

The agent is a bit Joker-esque takes too much delight in his job. Anyway Il draw up a few other concepts for now.

And thanks for the commetns guys, will go back to that one if nothin particularly striking comes to mind.:banghead:

06 June 2009, 03:41 PM
i like your last concept, prety cool till now, keep it up

06 June 2009, 03:55 PM (

New idea, my bro says he likes it more than the old one. Kinda inspired by some of the other entries with similar themes. You are a secret agent, walking into a party filled with others, everyone has their own agenda. Look carefully and you might spot weapons though on this reduced size I guess it'll be hard to do so lol. What do you guys think?

06 June 2009, 11:31 PM
You can make it like a "Where's Waldo" image where there are weapons everywhere, on everyone. So the image is like a game where people have to see where everybody has their weapons.

06 June 2009, 03:01 AM
I really like the feel of this direction. I kept looking at it and wondering who was and wasn't an agent. It fits the theme really well. A bunch of agents trying to keep it secret. Very kewl concept and awesome line drawing.

I had a thought on your original concept too (which I really like BTW). I was looking at the perspective lines as they related to the street. The buildings with the large billboards and signage feel like they have a different vanishing point than the side of the street with the car and exploding facade. This makes the steet feel like it is really, really wide... or like it is a plaza. If it is a street then you might want to tweak the perspectivea titch... or, if it's a plaza, you might make the angle of the buildings even more oblique so they are obviously on a different plane.

I really love your drawing style. Very loose and free. I'm very jealous :D

06 June 2009, 05:00 AM
Love your concepts. Looking forward to the finished piece.

06 June 2009, 03:06 PM
Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate the support.

Renderspud, glad you pointed out the difference in perspectives. Your second idea is closer to what I had in mind. Since it's kinda futuristic. The plane where the characters in the foreground are standing isnt the ground level of place. It's like a high up bridge/street area and the car is blocking the view really. If the car wasnt there, you'd see that the street drops off waaaaaaay down. And the buildings on the left are across a chasm. I may tweak the perspective of those buildings like you suggested but if you had any other ideas as to portray a massive gapin hole between those and the foreground buildings without removing the car it'd be much appreciated.

I am probably gonna paint this ball scene because I'm quite attacked to the idea now. Might try to get a slightly menacing tone out of it too.

PS. CGIPadawan - it's "where's wally" here. ;p:wavey:

06 June 2009, 08:13 PM (

I put some colour on it now, but i kinda prefer the original outline version myself. Maybe if i work it a little I might like it more. What'd you guys think?

06 June 2009, 08:45 PM
I like this one better than the first. I don't have any crits right now either, just keep working on it!

06 June 2009, 11:10 PM (

jus thought id post it since i painted some detail in the far left guy who I'v dubbed 'Jakob' i dunno y, but all characters are open to crits and if anyone got any particularly funky ideas for hidden weapons aside from the ones on there alredy please post em, I'd be happy to try to encorporate them :)

07 July 2009, 02:35 PM (

Worked on the next character along, Jack. lol. Inventive naming huh... lol Do you see his gun? His hairs totally unfinished btw.

07 July 2009, 03:07 PM
nice new concept. but it seems hard to make the agent as a focus. since everybody's face are suspicious and using mask. maybe that's the essence of SECRET!

07 July 2009, 03:27 PM
Well, over half the people in the scene are secret agents so i kinda wanted them all to blend in a bit, and at least 5 of them are carryin weapons right now, some concealin better than others lol.:buttrock:

I think the hard thing for me will be to get a ball atmosphere as well as the suspicion and menace.

07 July 2009, 03:32 PM
great idea! it's a secret agent war! maybe you should made a bit lot of crowd at the background.

07 July 2009, 04:06 PM
Coming along really nicely, despite him being called 'Jack' and showing his gun (!!! - neither of which I have a problem with actually - well maybe a bit with him showing his gun - we are in the UK after all !!!), Lap Pun.
Good solid drawing underpinning it. Always great to see that.

07 July 2009, 06:20 PM
wick3dsono- il add a crowd when Iv finished placing and maybe replacing the agents. jus needed to know where they go on the screen.:bounce:

Nickillus - thanks for the comments man, maybe you wanna hazard a guess at some of the other characters names? ;p :D

Anyway, off out bowling with DaftChicken now lol. Might post another update later but i need to get on with storyboard for video entry too.:buttrock:

07 July 2009, 06:21 PM
wow! u run thru ideas like pulling rabbits out of a hat!
the gunplay sketch looked really cool... and the masquerade one had really interesting characters.
which one are you going to go with? or are u doing them all?

07 July 2009, 08:43 PM
i noticed you lightened that guys hair, i liked it better dark. but i love the detail you put into them. So many ideas, you think your going to be able to pick one? i like them all, good luck =D

07 July 2009, 11:02 PM
ajitmenon - i'm only going through so many ideas because ive got absolutely nowt else to do but these challenges and competitions, other than rebuild my site and stuff. I'll probably finish the ball scene and the scifi explosion one, the gunplay scene iv used as an inspirational shot for my video entry so be on the lookout for somethin like it in my video one. :buttrock:

tyleen - i've darkened his hair since that post ;p. i didnt like it light myself.

Other competitions startin up too now...anyone doin the 'newborn' comp at conceptart?

07 July 2009, 11:06 PM
haha I envy you. I wish you lots of luck! And am looking forward to your future posts.

07 July 2009, 11:30 PM
I didnt know there was a contest going on there, got a link to the contest? i cant seem to find it and i would love to enter

07 July 2009, 11:38 PM
tyleen - supposed to be a major contest type thing with the rewards being more publicity based, kinda cool as ppl like myself could do with gettin coverage, would help piles in getting a job soon.

thats the link to the forum page, all the info needed there too...looks like it's gunna be huuuuge contest like this secret agent one. if i had a full on job i'd probably just do one but since i'm on summer hols at uni i get to do em allllllllll.:bounce:

07 July 2009, 11:58 PM
I completely agree with you on all you said lol. I too am on summer and am trying to enter a few contests over the summer, and a bit of coverage wouldn't be such a bad idea ;)
And it always helps for future purposes such as like you said, getting a job.
I also find it helps me be more motivated to paint things under a deadline, when usually i paint but without a deadline. I feel lazy painting like that. with no pressure. I'll be sure to check you out over there =)
thank you for the link

No problem tyleen, I aint started newborn yet. It's sooooooooooo open a theme that it's gunna be nuts trying to think of a super idea someone else hasnt done yet, lotsa maternity ideas there so i'm possibly gunna take a much more metaphorical look at the theme. hope to see you workin over there too!:D

ps. you're spot on bout the pressure, without deadlines i get lazy too, and paintings usually move slow, but these comps really get me goin. good luck with all your entries!:buttrock:

07 July 2009, 11:49 PM (

Too damn hot today so work was slow ;p

Worked on "violet" a bit, but still need piles of work, not done the detail on her dress or pretty much anythin on her aside from eyes lol, redid jacks hand but its a bit small, will probably resize for next wip.

07 July 2009, 12:40 AM (

Plopped a quick crowd silhoutte in there as someone suggested before, looks better i think, shoulda been on my last post but i forgot. What do you guys think?

07 July 2009, 02:42 AM
hey lap,

you are just pulling all these designs out in the opening and have so many concepts.. Great to see things coming together.. Im sure you won't have a problem creating something fantastic. Can't wait to see the final results take care for now.

07 July 2009, 12:42 AM (

Did some more detail on the characters, still got plenty to do lol. Neverending work!

Thanks for the support ShogunWarrior! :p

07 July 2009, 06:09 PM
yeah! another detail. it's fun to see you work. give me more crowd!!!

07 July 2009, 06:38 PM
cheers for the support wick3dsono,

btw anyone know how to make my attachments a little bigger in dimension, width especially cos with it bein so tiny its kinda hard to make out detail lol. Thanks guy! the jpegs i've uploaded so far are all 1000pixels wide but they dont appear 1000 on the thread...i've seen in some other peoples threads theyve managed waaaay wider images.

07 July 2009, 06:41 PM
I love how this picture is comeing along, all the different characters, a lot of detail but not too over whelming.

c780162 - the way i got a bigger image was to actually upload it to my account or a image hosting site and then use the image tags (Insert Image) option when your posting a reply.

07 July 2009, 06:42 PM
i'm using the challenge uploader and still got the jpeg wide enough, about 1280, thats the maximum width pixel for concept pic. i dont know bout the maximum res of WIP pics.

07 July 2009, 06:52 PM (

More detail on the girl on the is The pic is 1280 pixel wide... does it appear to be that size? plus all suggestions for content on the pic are welcome.

07 July 2009, 06:59 PM

this is a better size? unfortunately i dont know how to delete a post otherwise i would delete the previous one :)

EDIT: didnt work first time, but i didnt see tyleen's response til now, cheers tyleen:thumbsup: now maybe it'll be easier for people to see detail and crit

07 July 2009, 05:30 AM
horay! big pic! i really love the vista from each person. keep on going.

07 July 2009, 07:08 PM
Very nice!
I notice most of the characters are looking at the camera... that's possibly interesting but I almost wish that some of the characters were interacting amongst themselves.. maybe passing a secret chip or whispering to another or so...
it's still great work though! just some ideas... hehe

07 July 2009, 07:24 PM
Hey, thanks for the suggestion ajitmenon, I really was torn between having them looking at the cam and doing their own deeds, but i thought about the concept, and the camera is the first person view of their target, so as he (the viewer, so could be a she ;p) walks among the characters, they all begin to look at him and prepare to assasinate/deal/protect him. I wanted that to just peek through so weapons and stuff wouldnt be too obvious at a glance.

I will do a quick sketch over on some of the characters to see if doing their own thing works better...but i have also just come up with another concept lol! so i may start outlining that one instead... nevermind i'll just have to see which i feel like doing first!:cool:

07 July 2009, 07:28 PM
Very intriguing image. Reminds me of Assassin's Creed 2 game cinematic.
Your palette is very colorful. Maybe it could use a bit of saturation drop? Sinister masqarade is what I think about when looking at your picture.

07 July 2009, 12:08 AM

Latest update, added some background..thanks to grooshka for the advice, i pulled the saturation down a bit. i agree, it looks better. and the comment about assassin's creed 2 is so true but i didnt notice til now... however now that you mentioned it i decided to take inspiration for it by adding a mediterreanean? (lol can never spell that word) feel in the background. ;p

any more suggestions or crits? thanks for all the support and crits so far by the way. you guys make me feel very welcome here.

07 July 2009, 03:25 PM

More detail in the background, what do you guys think? Man i really need to get goin on the storyboard for the video entry lol

Edit: forgot to put large pic in, so I jus redid that.

Edit again: embarrassed...i didnt actually change the pic lol, but its done now.

07 July 2009, 04:38 PM
looking nice, you are pretty fast :applause: keep it up!!

07 July 2009, 09:56 PM
Thanks diissar, only fast cos i've got nowt else to do ;p :wip:
New update, i've put some confetti on it to up the party atmosphere but it ended up lookin a bit like snow so i may remove that. Not got too much left to do on this pic i think.Any crits would be nice before I start up a new concept lol.:D

07 July 2009, 01:54 AM
the confetti's good. maybe you should scale them a bit and give more color.
what?!?! new concept?? lol

07 July 2009, 04:39 AM
im not sure if you answered this earlier on, but can i ask why you took away the gun tip he had underneath the cloth?
btw this looks amazing, i love it with all the background now, looks soo good

07 July 2009, 01:10 PM
You've got so many great ideas, not to mention a great painting style, i was in avater as well, that was a an awesome entry you did. i really liked your first idea, the guy walking away from the explosion is classic, but i think the current painting is better, it's got spy written all over it and first perspective view point works well, the person they're looking at could be the host, the villin, the greatest agent ever.... we'll never know. So it's got a bit of mystery to it as well.

great stuff & goodluck

07 July 2009, 02:22 PM
Thanks for the comments guys

wick3dsono - you're right about the confetti, i should colour them indeed. lol as for a new concept, i've got some time left? might as well make the most of it and pump out more work! :wip: lol, or i guess i cold jus keep working on these ones. but the stuff i need doing on these ones so far wouldnt take too long to do.

tyleen - he still has his gun under there, but perhaps its too dark to notice now? Maybe i should lighten up the gun a bit. I also need to work other weapons and spy gear into the scene. There is actually a couple more things in the scene, the guy with the gun is wearing an earpiece but at this resolution.

I do wonder if anybody else had trouble seeing the gun and other spy and assassin stuff? Point em out if you can spot em so i know which ones are too hidden lol.

miycko - thanks man, i agree about how this one is better than the explosion noe but as you probably noticed from the avatar and previous iteration of this entry, i loooooove cool explosions lol. Good luck on this one!

Anyways Il probably start storyboarding my video entry for now, then do a new concept then do finishing touches on this... lol or it may happen in a different order. i never quite follow my plans

07 July 2009, 11:01 PM
Hehe! Most of us trouble just doing ONE piece and you churn out several entries.
It would be awesome if you could spend time adding more texture perhaps? The paintings are great... but I'm sure you could push them to add even more depth and texture perhaps?

07 July 2009, 11:19 PM
You know have just pointed out the one thing which troubles me the most! texturing.. i'm totally noob at that. I will give it a go though because i do feel the painting is missing somethin and texturing is probably it lol.

btw dont be disheartened if you dont see additional texturing on my next try plonk some in when i can. I probably bit off more than i can chew tryin to enter all these contests but im very determined to get an entry into each one lol. otherwise i'll just spend all day playing games.

07 July 2009, 11:26 PM
haha yeah! You are pretty talented and you've churned out so many good concepts! If you feel like you're weak at texturing, you should probably work on it... this forum might be a good place to get tips as to what you do well and what you are not!
Don't get restricted by what you can't do... you can only get better!

07 July 2009, 07:23 AM
Impressive amount of details. I wouldn't make the guy at the left with white clothes, it focused the reader on it, and I don't think you want him to be really important. MAybe something less bright ?

07 July 2009, 12:18 AM
I Really liked your drawing. I think it has like a very cool james bond's reminesence, and a dandee kind of style. Very old school. I like the fact that you keep on adding interesting details to it.You're more than welcome to check on my drawings, although they're still on working procese.
See ya, Marianof83.

07 July 2009, 01:22 AM
Thanks for the comments guys,

ajitmenon - hopefully i won't get worse lol!

authentic - thanks for advice, i had looked at the pic for so long sometimes i dont notice stuff like that. i will be trying to rectify this soon.

marianof83 - thanks for your support, hopefully some game studio recruitment guys might have the same thoughts as you and hire me lol

An update might not come for a few days at least, since i started a few other paintings in order to take my mind off this one for a while. Piles of stuff to do this summer.:arteest:

07 July 2009, 05:25 AM
Great job! I am not sure why but it reminds me of "Watchmen".

07 July 2009, 03:22 PM
good compo!
a lot of great details.

My challenge post (

07 July 2009, 01:02 PM
Thanks the comments guys.
Srulik24 - your's reminds me of watchmen even more! The guy comin out the window looks like rorschach! lol:bounce:

Here's latest WIP, nothing too major changed, mostly clothing detail. Can you spot the sniper? :wavey:

07 July 2009, 02:25 PM
heheheheheh! You r absolutely right :bounce:

07 July 2009, 03:12 PM
I really love your drawing style. Very loose and free. I'm very jealous :D

I have to agree with him... I am jealous. I could tell you are one of those really fast drawers. You already finished one composition and started on two or three others while I'm still struggling with my measly one composition... lol!

07 July 2009, 03:25 PM
Really cool scene...the woman looks hot, very nice environment too:thumbsup:

07 July 2009, 01:13 AM
thanks guys,

aesthitic - its funny you think my style is loose since pretty much all the art teachers i had complained my drawins were too tight! they told me to loosen up and i dont believe i really have, or at least not in the pics iv posted here. :D and im only quick since i got nowt to do this summer hol, least til i start my placement.

digitalinkmind - glad u think shes hot ;p ? lol

Anyways il probably start trying to put in textures for the next wip...despite how noob i am at it.

07 July 2009, 03:10 AM
great!! is that your final? youre not gonna start a new concept right??

what? sniper with a big rifle? i cant spot it.

07 July 2009, 03:14 AM
aahhh, i know. above the 3 groupies on the left. hahahhaha. nice one.

07 July 2009, 07:07 PM
wick3dsono - pretty close to final and no im not guna do another concept though i wish i could lol i like havin multiple paintings on the go, helps keep things varied :wip:

glad you could see him, thought perhaps he didnt look enough like he was carrying a weapon, though too obvious would also be bad:applause:

anyway il probably submit it closer to end just in case i think of cool things to add or subtract.

07 July 2009, 07:58 PM
this is coming along really well, also i like the concept, very well executed

07 July 2009, 09:14 AM
yeah, i'll waiting you on the other forum lol. anyway, i have updated.

Hey I'd like to ask anybody else who mighta submitted their final entry, whether they can click on their entry and view a full size version...? cos I've just done the submission by challenge uploader thing that you need to do for final entries and I can't seem to view it at it's fullsize. lol Anyway thanks guys for the comments and crits and support :buttrock:

08 August 2009, 03:46 AM
