I'm glad that I was able to get in on this one early.

I want to base this on one of my favorite TV series, called the Avengers.

06-15-2009, 02:42 AM (

Here are a few reference images that I put together to help with setting up the theme.

06-15-2009, 02:58 AM

Started playing around with the colors. Began modelling the base female (not to a showable stage yet). Will start on the costume designs hopefully today or tomorrow, and then start on the robot designs.

06-15-2009, 04:11 PM (

Worked out most of the details for her costume. Still have to design her boots and belt.

06-16-2009, 12:13 PM (

started working on modelling the female character and her costume.

06-16-2009, 12:18 PM

06-21-2009, 12:25 PM (

Started working on the suit and hat for the male character.

06-21-2009, 12:35 PM
Great stuff, the hat reminds me off the paintings from Magritte.
Models look great, keep up the good work.

06-21-2009, 12:54 PM
good work going on. keep it up and best of luck :)

06-22-2009, 11:53 AM (

Started working on the Bentley. Not too sure of the lod needed, until the scene setup is finalized.

Thanks for all of the great responses so far.

06-23-2009, 04:07 PM (

Decided to just go in there and wing the robot design.

Trying to get all of the models to a stage where I can setup the scene.

06-26-2009, 11:55 AM (

Finished modeling the major parts of the robots.

Hopefully will have the time to work on the background elements and character placements this weekend. Still a long way to go.

06-26-2009, 12:28 PM
This is looking really good. Especially the robots stand out.
I have one thing to add though, and this might just be me, but I really think the legs on the male robot should be just a bit longer.

Keep it up ;)

06-28-2009, 01:03 PM (

I setup the basic poses. Now it's time to start working on the details.

06-28-2009, 05:30 PM (

Started blocking in the background structures.

06-30-2009, 07:39 PM (

Starting breaking the models down into individual pieces. Here is the female's head in Zbrush.

07-02-2009, 02:14 AM (

Started working on detailing the male's head in Zbrush. (Checking texture) Still have a lot of sculpting to do.

07-02-2009, 02:45 PM (

Started loading meshes into Zbrush for detailing. Hoping to get major folds in on clothing before posing.

07-02-2009, 04:24 PM
wow! a lot of progress , keep going:applause:
only one thing, your male charachter has serious ear problems..I think you must take care of it!
good luck man, waiting for moor.

07-02-2009, 04:45 PM
Hopefully I will have time to work on fixing the ear today. But I agree, it does look odd.

Thanks again.

07-06-2009, 04:40 PM (

startedworking on texturing the background after having a few busy days. Still have to do the textures for the background building. Right now the textures are just blocked in.

I think that this will be the final camera angle, but will do more work with the lighting setup. Right now it's just 1 directional light and an hdri sphere.

07-06-2009, 09:36 PM
Really nice modelling. Just one thing though, I could be wrong but she looks a little out of balance, she looks like she might fall forwards in that pose.

07-06-2009, 10:56 PM
Tahnks Clanger,

Will check the pose - you might be right!

07-08-2009, 11:48 AM (

Finished modeling and texturing the background elements. Not too happy with the tire displacement/spec on the Bentley (will try and fix today).

After that it's on to the fun part - detailing the characters!

07-08-2009, 07:18 PM (

Started working on the facial details for the robot that is on the floor.

07-09-2009, 10:15 PM (

Finished the base textures for the male robot.

07-11-2009, 02:00 AM (

Got the textures done on the robots and have started placing them into the scene. Still trying to create a headpiece for the female robot (everything I tries didn't quite fit the scene).

07-13-2009, 12:36 PM (

Corrected the pose for the female character. Will try to fix the male's tonight. (busy weekend - didn't have a chance to do much.

07-14-2009, 09:53 PM (

Started working on correcting the male character's proportions. Hoping to find time tonight to get some more details into his clothing.

07-15-2009, 12:01 PM (

Finished most of the folds on his pants and jacket. Still have to do more work to his shirt, hands and shoes.

07-15-2009, 02:59 PM
This will look great! Nice modeling , dude:thumbsup:

07-16-2009, 03:57 PM (

Basic character position in scene/basic lighting test.

Still have to work on his shoes, cane and bowler.

07-19-2009, 11:44 PM (

Started working on the materials for the character. Don't like his hands, so probably will redo them. So far a little behind schedule.

07-20-2009, 10:04 PM

07-21-2009, 11:41 AM (

Did a quick test render of the robots. Still working on the male character. Hopefully, will be able to finish him by tomorrow.

Thanks again for the comments.

07-21-2009, 01:26 PM (

Just have to start detailing the female character. With only 18 more days to go - hope I can finish.

07-23-2009, 01:09 PM (

Started working on correcting the pose and the detailing of the female character.

07-24-2009, 07:51 PM (

All the characters are in position (Phew!). Still have all of the skin shaders to do, correct the lighting, add the smoke and fog layers. Hope that I can make the deadline!

08-01-2009, 08:00 PM (

Started putting the final renders all together. Here is a sneak peek at how one of the robots came out.

08-01-2009, 10:26 PM
Brilliant concept! Your scene is absolutely wonderful! The choices you made for the expression/modeling of the robot faces is pure genius! I love how their expression changes with different angles and shadows/lighting! I look forward to following your progress to the winners page.

Congratulations and good luck!

08-02-2009, 01:43 AM (

Working on touching up the image. Just playing around and desaturated the image - I like it, but will keep colour in the final image.

Thanks again for all of the responses.

08-02-2009, 12:43 PM (

Finished compositing all of the render layers. In the process of touching up the image.

08-02-2009, 12:46 PM
Looks cool! Good job!

Its just that the guys mouth looks somewhat misplaced, as if the mouth is trying to look around the umbrella.

08-02-2009, 12:50 PM
I spent most of yesterday evening working on his face. The 3d render didn't come out as expected. And your'e right his mouth is a bit off. Will try and correct today.

Thanks again.

08-03-2009, 11:50 AM (

Here is what the scene looks like at this stage. I still have a bit more detailing to do.

08-03-2009, 03:14 PM (

Software: After Effects,Maya,Photoshop,ZBrush

Based on the British TV series. The scene shows Steed and Emma (after being discoved) cornered and trying to hold off the "mad" robot attack.

The robots were originally designed to imitate Emma and Steed, but due to a (intentional) malfunction, they started to attack the population of London, leaving it up to the Avengers to destroy them.

Programs used: Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop and After Effects.

Scene rendered using mentalray. Robot smoke effect created in After Effects. The ground fog was created in Maya using particles, Hair created using Shave and a Haircut (with a lot of touching up in Photoshop. Scene composited in Photoshop.
