Hi everyone!
I am going to join a CGSociety Challenge for the first time and I am really excited about it!

All comments and crits are more than welcome!
Please let me know what you think as things start to roll!

All the best and I wish everyone great inspiration!

I am looking for the "look" of the agent character. I want him to look serious but also quite ridiculous :)

06-15-2009, 09:39 PM
very coool concept!

One more attempt at character "look"

Exploring the dumb agent character

06-16-2009, 12:42 AM
hahah very inconspicuous. I love the profile image :)

06-16-2009, 08:25 AM
I confirm! Cool stuff! i like this guy..
MAN! u must work on this!!!

06-16-2009, 08:33 AM
Haha I like this character. I think you're nailing the "serious but rediculous" look quite well.

06-16-2009, 01:06 PM
Magdalena> Yeah! He is really discrete, isn't he? :)))
OZ> Yes, I will keep working on this line, thanks for the encouragement!

RageOfAges> Thnx! I am glad you confirm that I am achieving the "serious but ridiculous" look! That's good news for me ;)

06-16-2009, 01:08 PM
i absolutely love the sketch on post#3 ! :D great stuff.

06-16-2009, 01:20 PM
Neubius> Thanx! :D

I would like to know which sketch do you guys prefer? (1,2 or3)
I like number 1 and 3. But I think that I might have nailed the character better at sketch 1.
What do you think??

I am testing if I can materialize the concept 1 agent head.

06-18-2009, 06:24 AM
nice work but hi little bit look like from game
Team Fortress 2: Blue Spy

06-18-2009, 10:22 AM
Amazing character design...very good...I love to see what you are planning to do with him!

06-18-2009, 01:33 PM
mrpeace> Thnx!! :)

Lebowskii> Hi! I understand why you say that the character is similar to TF2's Spy. Actually I was more inspired by Agent Smith from The Matrix :)). But the fact that he has a head cover makes his image closer to the TF2's Spy. Actually both character's try to put in all the secret agent's preconceived ideas together. I think that when I start to throw in some colour the differences will become more evident.
Ah! And my spy is a lot dumber than TF's spy! LOL

I am trying to find the right proportions for the agent.
I think I will stick to slim and tall.

06-21-2009, 02:38 AM
Yes, character design is awesome.
Can't wait to see more on this idea...

06-21-2009, 08:39 AM
smallone3d> Thnx mate! I have several ideas on my mind. In my next stage I will try to pose the character and start to show off my wacky idea :)

Very nice character. looking forward for more. Keep it up:beer:

I am working on the pose, a lot to be done yet...

06-23-2009, 01:12 AM
The pose goes with the character. He seems off balanced... yet it goes well...
Good update.

06-23-2009, 01:30 AM
I love your concept drawings, really nice work!

06-23-2009, 09:15 AM
smallone3d> Yes, he should look offbalanced, because he should have a wall on his back :)
Actually he is leaning against a wall. When I atart making the composition this wil be more clear.

06-23-2009, 05:46 PM
hi! nice concept very cool character! cant wait to see the finished piece!

06-23-2009, 06:17 PM
Looking good your character design, nice design in the mask, looking forward for more!

have fun & good luck

Fica bem, força nisso;)

06-24-2009, 09:04 AM
Popsaart> Thnx! :)

Rawgon> Obrigado! You rabbit thread is a killer

06-24-2009, 09:32 AM
nice, I like the concepts. Are you using zbrush?

06-24-2009, 10:09 AM
Cool progress!! this character rox!!!

06-24-2009, 11:18 AM
he's got some moves on him! :)
loving this character.

06-24-2009, 12:24 PM
Neubius, OZ> Cool! Thnx!

Zaknafein196> Yes, I have built a low poly mesh in 3DSMax and now I am looking for a good body pose by using the Transpose Tool in ZBrush. As soon as I am satisfied with the pose I will go back in Max and build the remaining parts of the suit. After that I will go back to Zbrush for the cloth wrinkles.

I was not happy with the previous pose.
I have changed him into a surprised/scared pose as he will be surprised by someone with a flashlight pointing at him. He is leaning against a wall, so he might look offbalanced :)

06-25-2009, 01:21 AM
Zeoyn, love the pose and character in this model! I should've checked your challenge page before jumping into writing this reply, so forgive me if you've already posted an image with this info but...do you have a concept/pre-viz of the entire scene? Or is this going to be a solitary character moment with the focus on his pose and expression against a wall, illuminated like you mentioned by a flashlight held by someone off screen?

06-25-2009, 03:44 AM
nice modeling.....good work!....it reminds me the team fortress and battelfield heroes characters!

06-25-2009, 09:15 AM
Migly> Well, my concept is in my head, but I will try to make an image to study the final composition. Actually my idea is that the spy is surprised by a mouse with a flashlight while he is investigating the "National Laboratory for Animal Research" where he found that mutated mice are planning to take over the world by breeding insanely until they cover the planet :P

melkao> :buttrock: Thanks!

This is my first shot at a possible composition.

06-26-2009, 01:09 AM
Hahaha! I love your pose for him. Looking great so far.

06-26-2009, 01:27 AM
Wow... Really nice pose.

It will be interesting to see the end result.

Good luck

06-26-2009, 09:43 AM

It's great that you guys like the pose

06-26-2009, 01:57 PM
I Love the pose and the idea. Not to up with the cam angle. I think something more dynamic is called for.....
But very nice, its coming a long....

06-26-2009, 06:48 PM
smallone3d> HI! is there anything in particular that you don't like in the composition? The scene will be more complex and filled with other elements. Your feedback is valuable and very welcome :)

06-26-2009, 09:34 PM
smallone3d> HI! is there anything in particular that you don't like in the composition? The scene will be more complex and filled with other elements. Your feedback is valuable and very welcome :)

Hey Zeonyn.
How about making the viewer part of the mouse view?
It looks so centered?
Playing with the cam angle/focal point a little?

Just my 2 cents. I realize it will change a lot. But I am really following this

06-26-2009, 10:03 PM
Great characters and pose. Great concept! I like the camera tilt, it makes the positioning of the agent more precarious. I wonder if having the agent lean a little bit away from the light, rather than slightly towards it, would create a bit more tension... almost like he is frozen and starting to fall over? Very kewl image in process. Can't wait to see more!

Tweaked the angle slightly. I have added the world conquering mice :)

06-27-2009, 01:33 AM
jajajajaja....thats looks really nice...good concept.

06-27-2009, 06:49 AM
 I love the idea...very original and the camera position and lighting really makes this

Keep the developments / WIPs coming :wavey:

06-27-2009, 08:10 AM
smallone3d, Renderspud> Thanks for the valuable input!! :wip:

CGIPadawan> LOL! :D

melkao, MrFreeman> I am glad you like it!

06-27-2009, 01:03 PM
Man, you pulled a really great looking composition.
And already looking great with those lights.

wainting for more;)

06-27-2009, 02:07 PM
Lovely idea, great angle and looks like there's going to be dynamic lighting too. Really nice, Jose.

06-27-2009, 02:29 PM
Rawgon, Nickillus> Well, when 2 of my favorite artists (Rawgon and Nickillus) make a compliment on my work, I can't feel other thing but happiness!! Thanks mates!

This is not a big update.
I have refined the pose of the character. Introduced a few curvy lines and shifted his weight a little bit more away from the light as suggested.

06-28-2009, 11:17 AM
very interesting concept! ... i like the lighting .. for the pose .. i guess turning up to the right (viewing angle) and then turning his head toward the camera with the shocked expression would bring it close ...
see how it works ;) :p .. i wish you all the best!

06-28-2009, 11:56 AM
nwiz25> Thanks for the comments  Do you mean seeing the agent more from the side or from the front (regarding the change of camera angle)?

06-28-2009, 12:11 PM
nwiz25> Thanks for the comments  Do you mean seeing the agent more from the side or from the front (regarding the change of camera angle)?

no prob buddy! :p
hmmm .. i think .. from the side .. just a little twist .. n then keeping his head facing the camera ... or the light . with that surprised / shocked / scared look ... ;)

06-28-2009, 02:55 PM
Yes, I agree, a little sided twist. Man this is looking really great.
Great hand poses, it gives it motion.

Great improvement.

06-28-2009, 03:49 PM
hey hi. nice concept going on buddy. I like it. keep it going. will come back to spy more updates from u :)

06-28-2009, 06:24 PM
http://assets.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/24/17853/17853_1246213455_medium.jpg (http://assets.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/24/17853/17853_1246213455_medium.jpg)

I have doubts regarding 2 composition layouts. I have twisted the camera angle and I also like it. Can you guys help me out and tell me which composition option do you prefer (A or B)?

06-28-2009, 06:41 PM
For me it's definitey B Jose. I think his pose and the more exaggerated shadows work better to make it extra dynamic. Both are great. B just has more.

06-28-2009, 06:53 PM
i very much prefer B :) ... got nice camera angle .. perspective ..
i've searched quite a bit for a pose that you can work on ... but couldn't find that 'scared' pose ...
so i did a very very rough linework .. i'm sure you can refine the model much better .. i only hope this will help you in some way ...

good luck buddy!! .. this will turn out really well! :bounce:

06-28-2009, 09:55 PM
nwiz25> Thanks for the hint on the camera angle! I will definitely follow composition B! Your sketch also indicates something very important: I still have a lot of work to do on the face :p Thanks for all the help!!!

Nickillus> Master Nick, I am glad you prefer composition B. I also prefer it and will follow that route. Thanks!:D

smallone3d> Your wish is my command :wise: A little sided twist was included! :D

nandlaskar> Come and spy whenever you'd like  :) Thnx!

06-29-2009, 07:22 AM
for me its definately B. it looks way more dramatic and believable.

06-29-2009, 08:08 AM
I also prefer the B version! It gives more life in the image, the rotation of the head is more believable. Like the color scheme and the story as well. I'll be looking to this entry closely from now on :) good luck!

06-29-2009, 08:59 AM
Yeah i'm thinking B too. The scared pose is pretty good actually. There's an effeminate quality to it that works, then sense that he doesn't want a mouse to run up his trouser leg. :)

Mind you, it may be worth having a go at modding it to see how NWiz25's suggestion goes over.

06-29-2009, 10:01 AM
'B' is the one! :)

06-29-2009, 12:52 PM
Yes, B works very well for me too. :)
My next 'wish" is..... :)

Awesome, The view and perspective are working very nice now.

06-29-2009, 03:19 PM
Jose, hi I just dropped by to say great looking start and I agree with the others that "B" definitely looks like the stronger composition. Look forward to more! :)

06-29-2009, 09:07 PM
mcscher> THanks! :D

NinjaA55N> Thanx! Feel free to visit often!

MonteCristo-3DT> Thanks!!

nfuchs> Yes, everyone seems to prefer it. So I will keep it! Thanks!! :)

smallone3d> If all your wishes make the image better, feel free to wish some more!! :wip:

BUZZFX> Thank you!! :applause:

06-30-2009, 02:15 AM
Não penses mais! A composição B é a que funciona melhor (mais dinâmica). Começa a desbravar a vontade! :)

I like it very much! :p Nice storytelling!
Keep on rolling!

Sugestão: Porque não o agente secreto ser um agente de desifecção de animais perigosos (roedores, aranhas e afins)? :p Fato de macaco, altas tecks de limpeza (Ghost busters mood - mesmo que artesanais), etc.

Abraço, tou a curtir! :)

06-30-2009, 09:28 AM
Hey Malanjo!

Thanks for the input!!!
Are you going to jump on board and take this challenge with us?

06-30-2009, 09:33 AM
You welcome master Zeoyn!
Yeah! :) Estou aqui ao lado no video section.

06-30-2009, 11:05 AM
Master.. só agora e que reparei que estás a participar no concurso.
The composition is looking awesome gor for the B like everyone is telling you. Can t wait to see the final image .

06-30-2009, 12:57 PM
Grande Omar!

Já há uns tempos de não oiço nada de ti!
Um abração!

I have been working on the agent's face and expression.

07-02-2009, 12:41 AM
Beginning to have real character Jose. The expressioin is taking shape nicely too. It'll be boosted when you get to add things like his eyebrows.

I'd be tempted to exaggerate it more and to make his mouth more whimpering - letting us know what a wooss he really is. Just me though. You'll do something better than that.

07-02-2009, 06:50 AM
What a great thread. Love the feel of the scene and your main char.
As for A|B variations (if you aren't sure still) the B isn't just mine favourite :)

Good job so far!
This should turn out so well.
Good luck Jose!

07-02-2009, 10:11 AM
Great concept, really like the design. I think the 3d version has strayed slightly and I prefer the original concept. The 3d is a lot older and looks wrinkly and frail where as the concept although looked old didn't look quite as old.

Still as a whole piece looks really good, looking forward to seeing this progress

07-02-2009, 04:26 PM
nice modeling...but i think that the expression could be improved...maybe more scared..the eyes more opened....well is just a though

07-02-2009, 04:43 PM
Haha, very nice pose, fits his characteristic really well!
Somehow it reminds me of Don Martin's "Mad" series, got the entire collection!
Go go go!

07-02-2009, 05:18 PM
men really cool!
nice concept!

07-02-2009, 07:22 PM
Hey Jose!!!
A GREAT work is going around here! I loved the concept and this final pose (I vote for B!)! hahaha

I wanna see the final image soon!! :applause:

Saudações Brasileiras! =D

07-02-2009, 08:51 PM
Nickillus> Master Nick, THanks for the advice. I agree a little exageration will be needed.:D

grooshka> THanks!!! I will surely follow option B

irwit> Maybe you're right and I have exageratted on the wrinkles. Maybe a little Botox is in order :lightbulb :p . I guess that the fact that the agent is still missing his dark glasses might also be affecting his coolness  when comparing with the sketches. Thanks!!

melkao> Yes, I guess he has got to express more surprise in his look!! I have to work on that! Thanks for the feedback! ;)

varma> Spot on! That is exactly the look I am after. A charicaturized reality and not just a cartoon, just like "Mad"! Thanks buddy!

jman7000> Cool! I am glad you like it!!

tunes> Obrigado!! I will surely follow option B! Thnx!!:wip:

I have tried to make more evident his surprised look for getting caught. Let me know what you think!

07-02-2009, 11:24 PM
you think his mouth might look a bit better with it slightly open a tad in suprise? It seems you like his mouth close with the expression you have so im just suggesting maybe open a tad? i think it might help to the " Oh No! " kinda look

07-03-2009, 08:47 AM
I'm with Tyleen on the open mouth suggestion. Definitely worth trying. It's difficult looking at an unrendered model to see exactly how it's going to look - especially for a 2d limited berk like me. I would tend to have small pupils in the eyes, and make sure the eyebrows are exaggeratedly raised. Also stress that angle round the orbit behind the eyeballs as well to really drive it home!?
I hope you don't mind, but I had a quick sketch over your great character to try and show what I mean. Easier to see than to have me explain.

You could definitely take it further than I've shown for real comic effect, but all that's up to you of course.

07-03-2009, 12:50 PM
tyleen> I will give it a try, but my idea of having his mouth closed is to emphasize the tension in the character. He is tucking his chin in as if his complete body is going back/ away from the mouse. Thank you for your input!!

Nickillus> Those comments for the eyes region sound great. However, I can not see your picture, even by using the URL directly. Could you post it again? I would really like to see your comments. Once Again Thanks for taking the time to comment!!

07-03-2009, 01:29 PM
I understand what you mean about trying to convey tension in a tight lipped mouth, Jose. I'm sure you can make that work.
I tried using the add image button and inserting a link before - works on my own browser but obviously not yours. I'll try a straight url link instead this time. It's not that exciting to see though, honest.

07-03-2009, 02:17 PM
your work is looking very nice

07-03-2009, 10:09 PM
Nickillus> Thanks, I will work on the eyes' area. However, I guess I will keep the character's mouth closed, I think it expresses better the tension I am looking for. But that doesn't mean that you're not right  We'll see how it works :)

kull222> Thank you, you're very kind :D

07-03-2009, 10:16 PM
its ok mate, at first you entry seemed to be a slight rip off from the team fortress 2 spy but now its looking really cool, i soooo need to get better at zbrush.

Update of the face.
As you guys can see, I listen to what you say!!! Let me know if you like it!

07-04-2009, 06:32 AM
Jose, that just may be better.

Fantastic start. I love the humour of this. I'm watching this and learning.

I love the new facial expression. Has an almost pouty feel like he's about to burst into tears... I can hear him saying "mommy". Very nice!

07-04-2009, 11:24 AM
kull222> ZBrush is definitely a blast to work with :)

RogerNobs> Thanks! You'r too kind. I don't think a great artist like you has got that much to learn from me. BTW, your Steampunk entry is awesome!

Renderspud> We really talk the same cartoonish language from what I have seen in your entry. I am really glad you like this new expression! :bounce:

RogerNobs> Thanks! You'r too kind. I don't think a great artist like you has got that much to learn from me. BTW, your Steampunk entry is awesome!

Are you kidding?! :)

That's kind of you to say, but I'm relatively new to 3D modelling.
Your Le Rabbit is just incredible and something really to aspire to for this challenge. I want the mix of realism and caricature.

07-04-2009, 05:39 PM
RogerNobs> Well, I guess one of the great things about this challenges is that there are so many great artists around and willing to critique and cheer up other people's work. I would say that is the real prize of this competition!:)

RogerNobs> Well, I guess one of the great things about this challenges is that there are so many great artists around and willing to critique and cheer up other people's work. I would say that is the real prize of this competition!:)
Amen to that.

07-04-2009, 10:57 PM
Totally agree with that sentiment. If you participate and join in the forum dialogue, there is no way you're not winning already. It is such a positive experience and in all likelihood you should end up with a portfolio worthy piece at the end. And you make some great new acquiantances on the way. How can you lose?

07-04-2009, 11:37 PM
Nice work so far :)

Work on the lights and composition.

07-05-2009, 09:12 PM
Nice lighting study!
I do like the character against the wall.. but I may agree that he looks a bit like the spy from Team Fortress... maybe u can change some subtle details so he's slightly different?
The pose and lighting.. and expression are all great right now!

07-05-2009, 11:53 PM
Here is a higher res version of the image (with a few updates):

07-06-2009, 12:16 AM

This is turning out to be a great piece :)

nice update!.....now it have more life!

07-06-2009, 03:35 PM
Animasta> Thanks!

Melkao> Thank you!!:bounce:

ajitmenon> Thanx. The mask on his head is what makes him more similar to TF2's spy, but I have tried to develop a character with quite different characteristics. Maybe with the introduction of colour that similarity might disappear.
nfuchs> I am glad you like his expression :D

07-06-2009, 06:48 PM
Sorry it took so long for me to reply, but omg his face is looking amazing. The amount of detail and thought. And yay his mouth is slightly open, i understood what you meant before, and im glad you tried it open and like it. I liked it before too and i like it this way.
Love his pose

07-06-2009, 08:03 PM

Back to detailing the model :)

07-08-2009, 11:35 AM
wow man! the sculpting of the cloth, the expression and the look of it all, really improved since last time i dropped by! if you treat the image with the same visual care you´re in right now... you definitely will end up with an awesome picture!

go for it!

força nisso!

07-08-2009, 05:33 PM
Wow..the cloth is amazing...you are doing a great job!...keep going!

07-08-2009, 06:30 PM
Excellent work, Jose. My goodness this is looking good.
The composition is really nicely thought out, but natural and organic as well. You are a seriously good story-teller, and this is already starting to nudge forward from the pack.

07-08-2009, 06:52 PM
rawgon> Grande Gonçalo, thank you for the kind comments! I am starting to worry about finishing this on time... I can only work on this until the end of July, only a few hours a day (as most of us). Aaaaah! I have to step on the pedal! :scream: LOL

melkao> Thnx! :D I am not satified with the cloth on trousers (around the knee on the leg on the right side of the image). Still have to work a little bit more on that! :arteest:

I have finalized the Agent model (for now :) ), time to move forward!!

07-09-2009, 01:26 AM
Zeoyn, I love how this one is coming out.
On the cloth, looks like it some sort of thin/wet cloth. a little flimsy, and not a suit cloth.
On the upper arms, it looks ok, but on other parts, it looks "too flowy"

keep it coming....

07-09-2009, 08:58 AM
smallone3d > Hi, thanks for your comments! This is my first time sculpting cloth  , I had never attempted it before... and I have found out that cloth his a category of his own! This is an area to study and learn during the next...years!! :D The weight of the cloth is really difficult to transmit. However, the Zbrush shader in the image is highly specular, which contributes to reveal all the wrinkles and to the "wet" look you're mentioning. Let me see how it turns out with a less shiny cloth shader! :arteest:

07-11-2009, 11:32 AM

i've been following this thread for a long time, bu this is my first reply.

it looks awesome so far, great texturing with the suite, and his right hand looks so much better now.
cant w8 for mouses to be done :)

07-11-2009, 01:18 PM

The modeling I just don't need the say, right? hehe Perfect!

07-11-2009, 06:06 PM
I love this one! It just gets better and better. Everything is great here. I love the way you're doing this.

The ONLY thing I could possibly complain about is that the pose seems a tad unnatural. I know it's supposed to look like he's a clumsy guy and all, but it seems like his left leg should be straightened out more like he was jumping. The way his legs are now makes me think he's crouching with one leg and jumping with the other... Sorry I'm so picky.

You have tons of talent. His expression is hilarious, the cloth is perfect, and I have no room to talk because I'm very lacking in talent. Can't wait to see more of your masterpiece! :applause:

07-11-2009, 06:28 PM
this is getting better and better every update...nice work!

tunes> Obrigado!!! Thank you so much for the support. :)

Terraplex> Thank you for the comments! I have positioned the legs this way so that both knees are turning inside as if he wants to hide and there is nowhere to. But I have to admit that the position isn't natural at all! LOL!!

07-12-2009, 05:23 PM
looks super frigging sweet bro, i persoanlly think its one of the best entries

07-12-2009, 09:11 PM
Just an idea - because as much as I love the concept and scene :) I don't get what he's doing there... I mean if he was wearing a lab coat maybe it would be better, what do you think? :)

07-12-2009, 09:35 PM
kull222> I am glad that you like my entry that much! That is really motivating

Katea> Ooops, I hope I can make the idea more clear. :hmm: My idea is that in a Laboratory where takes place animal experimentation, the Lab rats riot and take over the place. The secret agent goes there to investigate. While sneaking on the rats, he understands that they are making plans to take over the world by breeding insanely, he gets caught. My original idea involved including a tied up lab scientist, however I doubt I can make that in time for the deadline. I really hope that in the end the story line is clearer. Thanks for the input! :D

07-12-2009, 10:17 PM
You are most welcome. :)

I sort of don't get that part when he is sneaking on the rats. It looks to me like he has been sneaking on sth else (like some laboratory secret) and he got suprised by rat-riot :)

It's just about that. Other than this - I love the idea and how you are progressing :)

07-12-2009, 11:04 PM
Katea> My idea is that he came to the lab to investigate something strange that was going on, he didn't know that he was going to find the rat-riot. I have tried to show that he was sneaking on the mice by placing him behind the door, but maybe that is not enough to convey this idea... In the beginning I had the idea to put some Mickey mouse ears on the agent to show him as an infiltrate, but I didn't try that out, it might look too ridiculous :D

07-13-2009, 12:46 AM
http://assets.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/24/17853/17853_1247446017_medium.jpg (http://assets.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/24/17853/17853_1247446017_medium.jpg)

After some discussion with Katea on the clarity of the story, I have decided to put some Disneyworld mouse ears on the agent to make him look like an infiltrated agent (and also contributing to his ridiculous look). Please let me know what you think! (Is this a good or bad move?)

07-13-2009, 08:24 AM
I think it's way better. After all a secret agent is usually trying to fit in somehow :))))

Just take the glasses off :)

07-13-2009, 12:15 PM
Great work man. Amazing :)

07-13-2009, 01:41 PM
Yes Katea is right and the mouse ears..LOL...that is like the cherries on top! It works very well.
By the way the cloth and the other small details look awesome....
Took it up to a newer level.

07-13-2009, 03:34 PM
Thumbs up on the ears... Looking awesome!

07-13-2009, 08:52 PM
Katea> I am glad you like this change. :D I was not too sure. Do you think that I should take his glasses out?

pierzak> Thanks!!

smallone3d> Hi! I am glad that you more satisfied with the cloth now. The toned down specular made the wrinkles look softer. Thanks for the support!! :D

Renderspud> Cool! I guess the ears will stay then!! Thnx!! :applause:

07-13-2009, 09:25 PM
Zeoyn - I think you should take the glasses off his head - there is too much going on in this area right now. Maybe they could be slipping off his nose now - a bit crooked or sth. Try, maybe it will work out - I mean if you really care about the glasses, for me no-glasses option is fine :)

07-13-2009, 10:56 PM
Wow! this is definitely coming along nicely...!

07-14-2009, 01:36 AM

07-14-2009, 08:09 AM
:D Show us those tiny dudes! :)
Coming along nicely. One thing: the agents face could be more funny if his left eye (or right) would look in a slightly different direction. I think it would give the expression a more 'Ouch! What the?!' look.
Just try it and see if I'm right. :)

07-14-2009, 09:44 AM

Estou estupefacto. Muito bom!! Estás a usar o Lighwave 3d?

Não sabia que havia tantos portugueses por aqui, e ainda por cima sérios candidatos ao "título".

Posso saber qual é a tua profissão? Está directamente ligada com animação e modelação? É pura curiosidade, ainda estou a estudar, em multimédia.

Today, I took care of some stuff that can not be seen, like the UVs of the mouse and polygroups. I have also detailled the base mesh a little bit more around the eyes area and mouth.
Still much to do...

07-15-2009, 12:35 AM
Jose, i`m very-very sorry, pardon me my insolence, but is not a mouse, is funny rat. it nose a little long or heavy.
Sorry again

07-15-2009, 09:56 AM
I like the idea and the characters very very much. The secret agent is too cool!
I prefer the one without the rat hears, I think that is better a contrast between the characters...). Maybe It would be better if there will be just a rat ( a watch rat...) who reveals the agent while other rats in the meetingroom are understanding that there's sometihg wrong. Instead of the rats in front at the camera that are your close up you can easly put some props...
Good luck!

07-15-2009, 12:15 PM
love the style of your image, nice composition, good storytelling, keep it up

07-15-2009, 10:33 PM
i753lf> Thanks for the mouse reference! Yes, mine looks too much like a rat. I will tone that long snout, however I will still keep it a little rattish because it gives a nastier look to the mice.

K0RR> Hehe, I will have to decide on those ears :D Regarding the rats in the foreground I will have to try it. I actually like them there because they produce some very nice silhouettes with the ears :) Thanks for your comments. Keep them comin'!! :buttrock:

wow, creepy! i like the idea! cool character!

07-19-2009, 06:51 AM
Hi Jose,

Great concept and Idea. I love this scene it reminds me of old cartoon show tom & jerry!. Anyways, I have great suggestion that might enhance your winning composition. Have the human guy hold some binoculars on the left hand. That way it makes him look into the crack to see what the mouses or rats are up to.. Anyways, great rendering in 3d..

07-19-2009, 08:37 AM
Hahah thats such amazing concept, too funny, looking forward to seeing the final, cheers!

This is coming along really really well. It's awesome!!!

Anyway, are you going to add fur to the mice???

07-19-2009, 10:08 PM
ArneSReismueller> Thanks!! :wip:

ShogunWarrior> You have nailed something really important, the binocculars would make more clear that the agent was observing the mice. I am just not sure if the binocculars are the best object because he was sneaking behind the door, and the binocculars suggest a more distant observation. But that is a great suggestion!! Thank you!

Rupy> Thank you!!

mic> HI! No, in my last project I have used fur extensivelly and it really takes time to achieve a good fur. I only have one week and a half to finish this one and I wouldn't make it on time. I will probably handpaint a few hairs in some strategic places just to suggest it. BTW, I am following your thread, you really have a a strong story there! ;)

07-20-2009, 12:31 AM
jajajajajajajaja...its looking hilarious!....he has a mouse ears...nice touch...

07-20-2009, 12:50 AM
Wow! Love the SSS on the ears and fingers of the mice. Beautifully done.

07-20-2009, 06:05 AM
Yo dude! :)
Coming along really nicely. Too bad you don't hav more time to do proper fur. It would add a lot...I think. Anyway, keep going!

WHA HAHAHAHAAHA !!! OHMY.... great man!!! :applause:

07-20-2009, 01:54 PM

Superb concept and work :D I enjoyed a lot the development of your idea so far!! Great!! Looking forward for more updates! Cheers!!

07-20-2009, 09:10 PM
Looking great!
The mice are awesome.. I feel the SSS shader may be amped up a bit too much on some of the mice; so much that the detail seems to be getting lost. Other than that, it's coming along beautifully...
cheers'n'good luck!

PS: oh and I'd love some feedback on my challenge too if you have the time.

07-21-2009, 12:23 AM
melkao> I am glad you like the mouse ears! I was not sure if I should put them! :bounce: Thnx!

Hazardous>Thank you! BTW your agent is really looking nice!!

Ferx> thanks for visiting! I hope not to disappoint you!

ajitmenon> I have to agree the SSS effect is a little bit exagerated. :D But I think it adds to the cartoony feeling by adding some bright warm colors that match the red area where the mice are meeting. Thank you for your comments! :)

great models, story and composition. and it's so funny!

one thing I miss from your first WIPs is the volume light coming out of the flashlight. right now the flashlight light is not so visible, and I think it would add strenght to the overall image

this is one of my favourites. keep up the good work! :)

07-23-2009, 02:12 AM
This is a terrific image, well done. Everything seems to have a purpose with regards to the storytelling. The concept is original and funny which is so important with an image like this. I'm very much looking forward to the final piece.

07-23-2009, 07:53 AM
cristinagar> Thank you! Don't worry, the volume light and also the rim lights will be back! :D
The rim lights and the flashlight are a different render pass, and this time I didn't composite it. Thanks for the encouragement!!!

madbot> I am really happy with the fact that you are noticing the emphasis on the storytelling! Thank you!! :bounce:

07-23-2009, 11:38 AM

Just have to say that lecture about multiplying and rule the world is really funny!

great stuf.

07-23-2009, 01:18 PM
Zeoyn: hi,your image is coming so well, funny and very clear!!hope you can finish it at time!!good luck:thumbsup:

Dammit! I think we already have a winner... hehehe

Really really cool, Jose!

Every time a laugh with your concept! hehe

The last WIP is just perfect!

07-23-2009, 08:37 PM
This is awesome. This pic tells so much story!. I could see this as an animated movie!
Love the idea.

07-23-2009, 11:57 PM
tunes> Hehe, you're just too kind :) ... and also exagerating a bit :surprised :D . There are so many good images being created. It will be really great to see all those entries finished. Thanks for the support!!

SuperMario> Thnx!! I am glad you like it. I have been trying that this image looks like a frame in the middle of a film, in which we can undestand that there were some events that lead to this and that something interesting will happen next. It's really cool that you like it! Thnx!

07-24-2009, 12:10 AM
This one should be called "The Hidden Mickey". :P

I love this one.. And the Plan is illustrated beautifully.

There's a consistent type of silliness going on both on the faction of the mice/rats and the humans. It is pretty good. Your skill exceeds mine, and your sense of story is right up there.

While I like of course the evil plot in my entry, this idea of "Rats fornicate to rule the world" is definitely another fantastic idea that should be right up there in spy lore. hahaha :)

Just something odd going on with the reflections on the Spy's fake mouse ears.
The blues seem to be too strong.

This is a very strong entry, you should make the deadline now since all the most difficult elements are finished.

07-24-2009, 02:43 AM
I really like the idea! The image looks great... Keep the cool stuff coming :)

07-24-2009, 05:40 PM
CGIPadawan> I guess the mice give a new meaning to the expression "make love, not war" :D I will have to check the ears. I guess those shapes are shadows from the light going through the round windows on the doors, I'll have to check. Thanks for your comments!

goofara> Thank you!! :)

Here is an almost final image.
Just a few touch ups and I will start rendering at full resolution.

Wait a minute!
The Mouse directly below the one holding the flashlight is still unposed it seems!

Fake ears on spy now look about fixed.

Contrary to what you have said though.. The mice in your picture have decided to:

"Make Love AND War".

Hahaha. :)

07-25-2009, 11:04 AM

Hi Zeoyn

I feel perhaps need occlusion and atmospheric, now is little hard and sharp, anyway is amazing work.

07-26-2009, 02:04 AM

look at those two rats in the locker GOOOO! :)
great detail!!!

are u gonna try and make fur on rats???
the picture is looking great and you have over a month to work on the details

07-26-2009, 02:19 AM
cooooollll! :D
there's in side some starts the plan! hahahaa nice

07-26-2009, 04:15 AM
wow this has come such a long way.
It is looking great, Awesome. Taking the bar a little higher every time.

Yeah, like mentioned, a little atmosphere (dust particles) and fuss on the mice. But is is looking awesome just like this.

Love the 2 mice procreating up there. The tails are abit long, and at first the heart bothered me, but I understand what they are doing now. Nice touch!

07-26-2009, 08:05 AM
sadrack> Thanks for your comment. :) I will definetely add some more texture/dirt to the overall image!! But I will add that in the 2D Stage after the 3D rendering!!

NJA3d> LOL, I had a blast with that detail. Where do I get those weird ideas from? LOL
BTW, be careful the final deadline for the images is 8th of August, which is less than 2 weeks from now. As I will have to leave this Friday, I have about 5 days to finish this, so unfortunately I can not do 3D fur. However, I will try to Photoshop some fur in some important areas. Also, the mice in the foreground will be defocused. Thanx!! :D

jmans> LOL, those are 2 very dedicated soldires! :scream:

smallone3d> I am glad you are liking it! Yes, I will overlay some more dirt and texture later. The tails are quite long, but I wanted to make the idea clear and the tails had to make all those turnes to create the heart shape, so I needed some length. Thanks!! :bounce:

07-26-2009, 10:01 AM
omg isn't the deadline the 10th of septembar!!!???
i got something mixed up real BAD!!! thx for the info man

07-26-2009, 10:35 AM
This is awesome. Love the world dominaton plan :). Not much to crit, except maybe the shader on the agent's face - have you tried tinting the speculars blue? It would help to get rid of the yellowish highlight transitions.

3d fur, especially on the foreground rats would be great, even rendered separately and comped in post. But the time is short indeed. Good luck :bounce:

07-26-2009, 04:04 PM
Jose, that's just fantastic. I'm on holiday, so I've been out of it for a while, but I get some internet access, and I see you've done this!!

It is everything that I would aspire to with my entry; I can't really say anything more than that. I'll look at it again more carefully and see if there is anything helpful I can add.

Great work, and good luck with this.

07-26-2009, 09:11 PM
NJA3d> Ouch! :surprised I am glad we have talked about it! Mamma Bear and Pappa Bear deserve to be finished on time! :wip: Go! Go! Go!

azazel> I have just finished rendering the passes at 6K, I will use the next 4 days to color correct stuff and adda few details in Photoshop. I will try to reduce the yellowish look on his face! I will also try to fake some fur, we'll see how it works! Thanks for the input!!!

RogerNobs> Roger, I am really glad that you have liked it! Thanks for such a kind comment. I hope to see some more updates to your entry soon! :)

07-27-2009, 12:33 AM
Oh noes! The little varmints have set their plan into motion! Those horny little things!!!

They should give a special award for "Best Evil Master Plan".

07-27-2009, 02:04 AM
god this is really amazing. Its my favorite in 3D so far for sure.
I like the two mice in the locker btw ;)

its amazing so see just how much detail and thought your putting into this, i love it!

07-27-2009, 07:59 AM

As I have no time do make 3D fur, I am trying to paint some of it :P

07-28-2009, 01:07 AM
looking good on the right two mouses, but the left one is blurred more than it should, but that's just me :)
if you continue working in this tempo you'll make the deadline for sure!!! :)

07-28-2009, 07:32 PM
jajajaja...nice touch those mice in the closet...feeling the love!

07-28-2009, 07:39 PM
melkao> Hehe, I can guarantee you that they are only doing it as a war effort LOL

NJA3d> Hi, the fur is not that blurred, I have also been experimenting with some depth of field on the mice on the foreground. :) Here is an image without depth blur:

07-28-2009, 07:45 PM
I love the idea of the two rats making love in the closet but the tails do look a little long.

this image is getting better and better. you make the challenge tough for everyone ;)

07-29-2009, 06:58 AM
Haven't seen this before- it's great! Made me lol. :D

07-29-2009, 05:42 PM
mcscher> Thanks for the kind comments! :) Yes, the tailsare a little bit long. But if they are too small they pass unnoticed :P

Some days have passed and still no one can be contacted at the National Laboratory for Animal Research. The National Security Agency is ordered to send in one of their agents in order to check what is happening. With so many wars going around in the world, the Agency decides to send the only available agent... hoping that he will not screw it this time.
Reaching the Lab our agent finds out that all the laboratory mice are on the loose and have taken over the facility. As an experient agent he decides to use a flawless diguise.
Investigating further, the agent finds that the mice seem to be concentrating at the Director's Office and elaborating a surprising plan to take over the world! However, the mice are smart fellows and spot our well undercovered agent... will he survive? will he prevent the world from being dominated by the love making mice?
