Latest Update: Final Image: Dreaming The End
06 June 2009, 07:33 AM
I'm thinking about a kind of comic page to show the action and reaction of the two characters. Mix of a comics and poster image, by now it can be read in any direction, it's just a focus on the action.
The lady is the secret agent and the dude is the vilian, the story is gonna end right now. He comitted the mistake to trust her eyes. h?h?
First sketches by now.
06 June 2009, 10:48 AM
I'm not sure wether it is a wip or a concept. Because it is still early I'll say this is concept.
I don't know by now if I'll go within colours or if i'll keep the black and white composition.
It would help me to know what you understand of the image by now and how you read it. ^^
06 June 2009, 02:12 PM
oh wow, this is your final image?! (Just a joke, but it's really very, very good so it could be!)
I love it, and the idea with this kind of comic-style is pretty cool. I will follow this thread very closely! The atmosphere is even now very dense, i hope you can catch it in your final image! Is it meant to be just black and white (like in Crime Noir Comics) or did you just "forget" the colours?
06 June 2009, 10:02 PM
lol, no I didn't forget the colours. I dunno yet if I'll do colours or keep it black, I wanted something stylish, so the black and white fits well... But, I spent only 3 hours on this, I feel like it is not enough. And I'm sure it's not. I don't feel like this could be enough for this challenge.
So Ill' work more on it.
06 June 2009, 03:55 AM
A try with colors added to the black&white. I'll make another try with the colors.
06 June 2009, 01:31 PM
06 June 2009, 01:40 PM
I love this last sketch: very dynamic!
06 June 2009, 01:59 PM
next one from the same idea. I got them turning arround 'cause I'd like to draw the body of the girl. what d'you think?
06 June 2009, 03:36 PM
I really like this last one!
How about a fight in the water? is an idea.. :)
06 June 2009, 04:40 PM
looks like realy nice concept. love the lose drawing style. me thinks the agents cover is blown some what.
looking forward to seeing the finished artical:thumbsup:
06 June 2009, 04:50 PM
That concept looks really cool! Best of luck!
06 June 2009, 12:22 AM
studying the concept underwater. The problem is, underwater the gun is not gonna work. xD
06 June 2009, 12:29 AM
I dunno how the red clothes react underwater, if someone has a reference picture.
06 June 2009, 12:57 AM
Earlier you said a dream. So, it doesn't matter if it's underwater or not. I like this one the best of the "dream" ones. I don't know if you moved on from the dream or not, but maybe combine.
Anyway... "that's all I have to say about that."
06 June 2009, 01:25 AM
thanks BBR, I'll try to find the right mix of both. I think I like this composition.
06 June 2009, 02:33 AM
a different perpective to ur entry. keep it going.
06 June 2009, 06:13 AM
hi amelie, nice sketches and designs. You have good imagination i might say. Can't wait to see more, take care for now.
06 June 2009, 09:15 PM
I think I'll keep this one. I'll work on the focus with details on the face, expressions, the gun and arm and legs, and turn crazy with the hair and dress. Does it need something else?
06 June 2009, 12:32 AM
a bit forward on the faces and changed the posing.
06 June 2009, 02:30 AM
Hey Smirtouille because the gun seems to be an automatic with a clip the chambered round could fire underwater without hindering anything. With the distance to her target one shot should put him out of commission but after that first shot it's useless. Not sure if this helps you at all but a bit of brain food never hurts. Just remember even high caliber weaponry (ex. .50 caliber weapons) cannot penetrate more than a few inches underwater without the bullet stopping or coming apart completely.
06 June 2009, 05:10 AM
Interesting. Thanks for the information, Streen. : )
06 June 2009, 08:02 AM
i liked the dude I made for the first concept and theoricaly it's the same for the second concept so I'm working on that, to get exactly the same dude for this.
Little study of it. I'll do the same for the girl.
06 June 2009, 08:55 PM
study of the girl's face.
06 June 2009, 04:02 PM
you still need a wet dress reference, don't you? why not put on a dress, jump in a pool and take a picture of it *hrrr* just kiddin'
I love your concept and yes, I will be watching closely too. good luck.
06 June 2009, 05:30 PM
I love the concept but her arm/hand blocks both of their faces and some of the action taking away a lot of what you could accomplish in this image. If you don't want to make her left handed then you could flip the image around but somehow move her arm to behind the action.
Unless this is still concept, then never mind. :D
06 June 2009, 07:57 PM
It would be a pleasure for me to draw the entire faces. (actually I did, eh) But I'm still hesitating about to move the arm. This gesture is more naturallistic and more "in motion" than to clear the way to see the entire faces. This way to hide them a bit seems not to be a mistake in my opinion. And we can still see the expression within their eyes and eyrebrow and brow and cheeks.
mcscher, lol! I found what I need without putting a dress on me, but thank you! Good idea. Next time I need an open wounded head I'll try.
06 June 2009, 04:09 PM
This gesture is more naturallistic and more "in motion" than to clear the way to see the entire faces.
Yeah that's true. Good luck, looking great so far.
06 June 2009, 01:32 AM
working on the composition.
06 June 2009, 01:37 AM
really cool - I love the movement of the cloth...
06 June 2009, 02:34 AM
Love the motion portrayed with the cloth. That really draws my eye into this.
I also was a little uneasy about covering the face.
Kept on looking at it and I guess it would work if there is some emotion in his(their) eyes.
But not seeing it. Maybe adding this could help get the message across.
Keep on, its coming along
06 June 2009, 02:46 AM
I've hard on doing the arms. The last changes I've made now show the two faces. I think it's better. But I'm still not very happy with it, I'm working on. They look pretty sleepy by now. I'll had to change that when doing the details.
I'll upload the changes when i have enough to show.
And i'm soo bad drawing guns, that's gonna be hard. i'll try to detail it a bit for the next upload.
06 June 2009, 08:15 AM
I think this is going better. Thanks to the people who helped me so far, finaly the faces showed fits well.
I did the gun, for me it's done if you guys have suggestion about it it would be better.
I started on the details, I will have a lot to do for the clothes and that will be fun.
I feel ok with my piece by now, long way of little changes from the previous steps.
06 June 2009, 08:32 AM
I really like the colours and you have a really great idea, keep it up.
06 June 2009, 09:45 AM
Great movement, excellent story, fabulous colours, gorgeous characters...Superb job
06 June 2009, 10:29 AM
wow, Thank you, this is encouraging.
06 June 2009, 06:05 PM
Absolute impressive!! Fantastic colours! Great characters, the girl’s face is beautiful, the position of the shoulder, the clothes. I love it. One idea: The girl holds the weapon under the man’s chin. Like if they are about to kiss but not too close.
I see them a little sleepy; the entire scene is very romantic. Maybe the guy could have an expression that say "you got me, and Im happy about it" and the expression of the girl say "you are mine, your life is in my hand" but both very subtle.
I love how the characters, the dress and the hair rotate in a spiral. Focus the attention in the centre of the frame. Amazing!
06 June 2009, 06:19 PM
cool drawing and paintings.
I really dig the style.
keep it up.
06 June 2009, 06:55 PM
I like the dynamic of the two people going down instead of going up, though I could understand why you flipped the characters. You might want to tilt them a little though, so you could somewhat regain that dynamic of your original sketch for the dream idea...
06 June 2009, 08:59 PM
A few comments, first off; there are many guns that can fire underwater, one of which is the Glock. Secondly, bullets fired underwater travel at a lower speed, but will not fragment, it's if you fire a bullet AT the water. Now, the image :P I really like the tension that was inherent in the shot of her holding his tie underwater, I think it has lost a lot of drama now. I'd really work on trying to get that back. Maybe they're fighting over the gun?
06 June 2009, 11:46 PM
"Dreaming the end"
This is happening before the scene of my first black&white concept. This dude has to disappear, but he's over-protected. The only way to approach him is from the inside. This woman appeared arround him maybe months, maybe a year ago. She had to spent so much of her to get closer and closer, she spent her body but mostly she gave honesty, she gave her inside mind.
Now he's confident and he lets her stay close to him. But not really, he doubt. He knows she's his only weakness, she could be his own death too. This idea obsesses him that he dreams of it, he "dreams the end" when she will decides it's time to finish the story.
With this doubt he's still going, because he found something in her that allows him to end his life, and so the scene in the car happens. He's talking innocently about future with her, maybe just for the form. Just to delight himself with peaceful thinking. She turns back with 'I love you' on the face and kills him.
Nobody knows if she loved him a bit or not, if this gesture is a proof for it or against it.
Thank you all for the encouraging comments. I agree with the sleepy face and I'm not happy with the volume on his face in some place, so I'll work on that.
DreamingOfAfrica: Thank you for the extra information about the Glock and stuff, you seem to know your subject. Someone noticed for the water earlier, but the piece re-turned in its original concept of the dream so the gun is two time not a problem. I like the gesture of the tie too, it has advantage and disadvantage. I liked it because she was draging him to her, almost in a cute way. And the open posture has equal goods and bads too, to better show their face and emotion. I had to make a choice.
06 June 2009, 08:57 AM
Hmm if your still willing to change the pose (Which you don't have to) I think having the arm in the way was a good thing.
Personally it made the eyes stand out a bit more and kind of gave a whole different feel to the picture. In my opinion I think it was more interesting seeing it all portrayed within the eyes.
I also liked it with the feet in front and what not. It really feels like she's reaching out for him. W/o the feet kinda seems like she's always been there. But maybe that's what you going for :P
Good luck though eh. I really like this, your style and concept and what not.
06 June 2009, 11:37 AM
06 June 2009, 01:01 AM
This idea is really interesting. Underwater? cool. I love that underwater look. gives loads of movement to everything in the picture.
I think my favorite part isnt just the fluidity of the cloth which looks really good btw, but the intense kinda stareing contest their haveing.
I really like this and cant wait to see it progress
06 June 2009, 08:08 AM
shaping up nicely . Keep it up .will come back to spy more updates . he he he:thumbsup:
06 June 2009, 09:36 AM
This pic amazed me when I saw it, the colour and flow of the dress is fantastic. I was slightly jealous :) lol. Keep up the great work!
06 June 2009, 11:05 AM
Well, everyone else has already said everything else that i would say, so good luck, and don't give up/slack off, this image has lots of potential .. . . movement, mood, irony, not something you see a lot of.
06 June 2009, 08:32 PM
Yeah, that looks much better. You were doing such a good job on their faces it seemed a shame to cover them up. :D
Thinking about the tie, what if you had her grabbing it from the front pulling him forward? And I think the gun looks fine.
06 June 2009, 09:31 PM
I love this piece. The color and composition are really engaging. However, I wanted to pipe up with a thought after seeing you talk about doing an underwater scene. My first read of the piece was that they were in an inferno with her red dress fading into the flames (Maybe she's about to be consumed? Maybe she's a fire spirit of some sort? It's an ambiguous impression.) I found this to be a really gripping scenario, but am not sure if it fits with your concept.
Either way, excellent work so far!
06 June 2009, 08:53 AM
beautiful drawing, love the flowing style, keep up the good work!:applause:
06 June 2009, 11:24 PM
wow, this concept is coming along beautifully. The poses and expressions are compelling. The composition is also very beautiful and serve the dreamlike concept well. I'll definitely be paying attention to this one
07 July 2009, 07:10 AM
Got a bit further. I had difficulties to give to the girl this position.
07 July 2009, 08:28 AM
Hi,nice illustration, the girls knee looks a little bit strange to me
07 July 2009, 11:39 AM
that's really unique. With a great style.
07 July 2009, 01:28 PM
Nice work, very beautiful and a little surreal. I like the recent changes in her face, and the fact that they're now so eye-to-eye. I don't quite get what's going on exactly, but I do like it!
07 July 2009, 02:14 PM
this is definitely one of my favourites, love the surreal and sensual direction this is taking, it kind of reminds me of a yoshitaka amano piece. He's one of my fav artists. Keep up the inspiring work
07 July 2009, 03:16 PM
Looking great, it kinda looks like he's been expecting this but didn't know when she was gonna try and kill him, they struggled and ended up in the water, now she has the upper hand. I like her expression, it's cold and distant. Like she just wiped away whatever feelings she might have had for him. this will be a great image. I'm keeping an eye on this:thumbsup:
07 July 2009, 03:08 AM
I think it's happy now to get the details.
I changed the knee, the hand and several stuff on both faces. I'm still not sure wether this is good with the closed eyes for the guy or not, I'm waiting for your opinion at this level.
If it's ok then I'll go through the finishing and show a bit of details.
Thank you all for the helpful supporting. : )
07 July 2009, 03:56 AM
I am really liking the flow of this! It is very intimate and Albert R Brocolli
07 July 2009, 04:05 AM
I dunno what can happen during the next month so I'm not presenting this as finished work, I still have some ideas and inspiration.
Let see what you guys think of this.
I brought some close-up.
07 July 2009, 02:40 PM
Hi Amélie Hutt, your work in progress is really interesting and I liked the latest so far with the guy's eye closed. If I may suggest, do play around with lighting :)
07 July 2009, 04:41 PM
Reminds me of this one:
Sax Duel (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=225&t=532891&page=1&pp=15)
Back to yours...
Does she pull the trigger? If yes...that makes it so much more interesting.
The image conveys such a delirious state with her in it that even death gets a sweet taste. I imagine him feeling that way.
I really like the overall idea. How the visuals are in such a crass contrast to the actual action.
some critical remarks:
The red behind her head makes it look like she gets shot. With the current way the image is laid out it seems unintended...but it could certainly add another edge to this image.
I don't like the bottom left corner because it's distraction and doesn't offer anything.
Also the handle of the gun feels a bit too dark compared to the low contrast and bright hand of hers. But I actually think it's cool that the gun distracts the composition a bit, because it's the unsettling element that reminds us of what is actually happening.
Overall I think you could aim to maximize the delirious feel. Maybe by improving the flow of her dress, add mood/depth and refine the faces(shading, proportions).
Keep it up!
07 July 2009, 09:23 PM
Thanks Eonridr and VHASE. I'll condider your advices, that should help me a lot. I was a bit stucked on this.
07 July 2009, 12:50 PM
this is looking really great. I do however prefer the eyes being open because it creates a more intense connection between victim and prey, its also alot more sensual with eye contact. If the eyes are closed it seems like some of that closeness and intensity are gone
07 July 2009, 09:58 AM
I considered your advices. Does the flow still need to improve? Maybe I can choose wether I make it go from the low left edge to the right high edge or make everything turning arround.
I think we feel more the guy as prisoner of her by now wich is good.
I prefer with the eyes open too.
07 July 2009, 10:48 AM
Your concept is amazing, really love the composition and the colors. The posing of a girl is awesome. GJ
07 July 2009, 07:56 AM
07 July 2009, 08:03 AM
This scene happens virtually a couple of weeks before the agent woman actually kills this guy.
In fact she's not the one who will shoot. It's just a dream, that would have been too pretty. Also she's not a killer. She's an agent. She only planed his assassination.
In the way of her mission she teached this bad guy something he never lived before, or lived too far away. When he started to think she was a dangereous ennemy, he has already accepted his defeat. He wont do anything to stop her and let her bring his own death.
It is during this dream that he faces all his thoughts and when he decides to accept his fate.
The end was nicer in the dream than in real, for sure.
07 July 2009, 08:10 AM
What f.... LOL It is wonderful! your illustration is a lot, very pleasant. The dress "burns" literally. It is being great the result!
Secret Agente Entry (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=291&t=776907)
07 July 2009, 02:02 PM
this is really good stuff!
I think the flow of the red fabric/flame/stuff is really good, but I would like to see it fill more of the upper left corner of the picture (if not all of the upper left corner to create a good negative space), and not so much on top of his face. Making a more strict circular framing around his head would make him much more 'imprisonated', and place him and her in a good circle in the golden cut of the picture.
This is certainly my favorite picture so far. Keep rocking! :buttrock:
07 July 2009, 03:51 PM
Great work, it definitely tells a story, very interesting, i'm liking the chosen colours, mood, composition and overall concept, the red clothing could be a bit more dynamic when looking at the main composition, as well as the hand that's not holding a gun, the way it's pointed towards the camera could use some work as it seems a bit flat, otherwise awesome work, looking forward to any updates
07 July 2009, 06:59 PM
I absolutely love this piece-the flow of the dress brings you in, takes you around, and reluctantly releases you back to the real world...all the while the tension and intensity in the middle between your two characters draws me right back in.
Great work with this.
07 July 2009, 07:34 PM
Amazing peice you have going Amélie,
Love the emotions you get from the painting and the vibrant colors, looks really good, cheers!
07 July 2009, 02:03 PM
A truly incredible work. I noticed you raised the male character's line of sight from the last work-in-progress to the final piece... he's now looking directly into her eyes. As I was scrolling through the different versions of the entry I wondered to myself what it would look like if done so. I like the adjustment, and think it helps sustain the intensity of the moment. Great work altogether.
08 August 2009, 05:44 PM
This really came out great, and I love the story behind it. Congratulations!
