here's the inspiration for my character to kick off with the pre-visualisation.
Agatha Christie and the 20s is on my mind since the start... not too realistic though :) More concepts to come ofcourse...

06-14-2009, 07:54 PM
I love that style. A good inspiration point.Im very curios to see some concepts.

06-15-2009, 10:58 AM
Magda !

Nice to see you around !
The inspiration picture reminds me a bit Mata Hari which was a german spy during the first world war...

Those design from the early 20th century could be a nice idea for the topic.

06-15-2009, 11:02 AM

So here's the concept for my secret agent - she's an extraterrestrial posing as a human, 1920s night club singer ... you can see her changing into the 'costume' in an art deco bathroom ;) - not quite decided on what the alien self will look like - hands vs tentacles. Still brainstorming

06-16-2009, 12:40 AM
thanks very much to all of you guys for the replies to the thread - You kept me motivated to go with it :).. I'm quite pleased with the idea so next up - modeling :)

06-16-2009, 12:52 AM
Looks gorgeous. Are you doing it in 3D? I like it with brush strokes, it fits the subject style so well. Let see what happen.

06-16-2009, 01:03 AM
Nice concept. A night club will give you a chance to work on a beautiful lighting setup.

An art deco bathroom is a nice place to set the scene, you can get a nice contrast between a classical environment and a futuristic character.

06-16-2009, 01:31 AM
Smirtouille - thank you very much - yes I'm doing it in 3d...I ain't no painter :)

HerbertC - Thanks... yes that's what I'm hoping for :)

06-16-2009, 08:59 AM
nice idea !
should be cool this mix human/alien !

06-16-2009, 09:41 AM
Nice sketch Magda. I like tentacles because they are more science-fictiony, but that's just my opinion.

06-16-2009, 10:32 AM

I'm looking forward to your work on this girl :D

Btw congrats on doing such a great job on Mephisto in the HMC section!!!

- Ty

06-16-2009, 10:48 AM
Your modeling skills are insane! You'll certainly make this girl look fantastic :)

06-16-2009, 11:26 AM
 VERY NICE IDEA! she looks great! i like the colour palette too.

06-16-2009, 12:13 PM
So, how are you planning on approaching this Magdalena? Are you going all out ZBrush, or a mix or what? Definitely enjoying the angle. Unusual. And I like that. As soon as I kick this bug I'm enjoying at the moment, I'mma get stuck into this too.

06-16-2009, 03:02 PM

06-20-2009, 01:34 AM
Awesome start...looking forward:)

06-20-2009, 02:25 AM
This is my favorite idea so far. :) It almost makes me think of the comic "crimson traces". Definitely an approach no one else has taken so far. Good luck!

06-20-2009, 04:52 AM
I love the concept and feel of this already! Your coloring in the sketch is superb. Wow, can't wait to see more! :)

started modeling, mostly the suit ;)

06-20-2009, 08:45 PM
Thanks so much everyone for keeping me motivated... :) I'm glad you like the initial idea.

So I started working on the body of the agent and decided to go with a more super heroine proportions - the aliens had images of perfect women at their disposition so that's what they've based their suit on ;). It's still early days in terms of the face, but I think I'm getting to where I want her to go... opinions are most appreciated.

06-20-2009, 11:21 PM
Hi Magdalena! Nice work here. Your modelling is very expressive, but I think that you need review knee's position on the leg. a little bit to up.

I dont know your references, but I see the thigh a little bit smaller.

06-20-2009, 11:23 PM
yeah lol I already moved it...didn't want to reupload though with just a minor correction :) well spotted...

I'm not quite inspired to work on her though which is my main problem... started thinking again which is not good hehehe... go me!

06-21-2009, 12:03 AM
Great modeling!

06-21-2009, 01:31 AM
wooohooo! me missed a lot here! ... nice color concept magdelena! your latest update sure is cool! even now, she's got an expression! hehe :D
good luck friend! have a great day!

I've decided to change the concept to one I've had in my head for some time and one that I feel closer to my heart... I like fairy folk and goblins and sprites so I've decided to go with them :) A messenger to the royal house of fairies from one kingdom has taken a nap in the wrong part of the forest... the agents of the enemy do not sleep :)

06-21-2009, 01:36 AM
thanks guys - as you can see I decided to go with something completely different... I am sure I'll have much more fun with fairy folk than with alien chicks...

06-21-2009, 01:55 AM
i think now begins magdelena's real switcharoo! this is pretty promising and very 'you!'
love the colors!

06-21-2009, 02:02 AM
it's very me - someone once coined a phrase 'to pull a Magda' meaning change once mind like I do LOL... what can I say... can't help myself ;) switcharoo made me laugh too!

06-21-2009, 07:59 AM
Sometimes we have to follow what our heart tells us :)

This is a long challenge so I agree that we should do what we really like and especially enjoy the whole process.

06-21-2009, 08:26 AM
Hey ' dudette ' !
I like this idea more than the previous one. Show me what you got! :)

06-21-2009, 05:29 PM
This challenge is just getting better and better!! I'll have to work much harder if I want to be up to what people are doing here.. :p

Your new idea looks very interesting Magdalena. You'll have a beautiful color palette to play with.

06-21-2009, 05:36 PM
It is a nice idea, I like a lot more than the first one. It is an original secret agent. Good luck Magdalena!

06-21-2009, 05:54 PM
it's very me - someone once coined a phrase 'to pull a Magda' meaning change once mind like I do LOL... what can I say... can't help myself ;) switcharoo made me laugh too!

That's funny! My friends use the term "pulling an ejay" for people who flake out a lot... since I am notorious for that, lol! Don't we have great friends?

06-21-2009, 09:05 PM
I got to say, I'm a big fan of your work, and this looks superb. Reminds me a lot of the old fairy tale illustrations of the late 19th/early 20th century. My breath is held!

06-21-2009, 10:49 PM
Yeah, I think you stand more chance with this idea. It seems pretty rare that the standard femme fatale image goes over well with judges. I guess it's been done too much -- even with your unique twist here, I can see why you might lose momentum. And you have to go with your gut on these things.

With that in mind I think this could really work well for you. If you adopt a similar style to the Goblin Mechanic, I'm sure this will be extra impressive.

One thing though. I think Dreaming of Africa could have an interesting point there re. style maybe that era of illustration would be an interesting stylistic flavour to keep.

06-21-2009, 11:30 PM
thanks guys, yes the 19th century style of illustration is what I"m after - I'm no good with drawing it properly but hopefully I'll get it across in the 3d render... I've decided to start with some BG work first, since I always treat that part so badly and don't care about it - getting caught up in the characters. Hopefully it'll get proper treatment if it goes first ;)

06-22-2009, 02:14 PM
Very cool. At least you have ideas:D.
Looking forward to seeing this come alive.

06-22-2009, 02:59 PM
Oh very fun new concept. Should be pretty different from the rest. I like your idea to do the background first. I'm the same way. So often I will spend 95% of my time on the main focus of a work and then just kind of throw in a setting or background. It's a good thing to be aware of. Can't wait to see progress.

06-22-2009, 09:01 PM
Brett thanks heheh - that's my problem I have to many of them :) I think too much ;)
But I'm decided to go on with this one... enough thinking

Tim - thanks a lot... yeah I'm starting work on it today, so hopefully updates will follow :)

06-22-2009, 09:48 PM
Hey Magda,
It's great to see you entering this challenge. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

06-23-2009, 01:31 AM
Good luck Magdalena:thumbsup:.

06-23-2009, 04:56 AM
Hey Magdalena! wht's up?

Good to see you here . . . I like the second concept more, it is very much different and interesting to work on imo. ;)

Are you going for little funny feel in it or is this like serious harry potter kind of style?

Looking forward for more . . . Best Wishes!

06-23-2009, 06:20 AM
i also think the second concept more interesting!

06-23-2009, 08:03 AM
cool .love the idea.its funny.Best of luck to make it funnier

06-23-2009, 11:36 AM
good luck Magdalena !

looking forward to see how you execute this challenge

cheers ;)

06-23-2009, 04:13 PM
Hey Magdalena! Very cool concept, can't wait to see how it translates into 3D! How is it progressing? :wip: Keep us updated!

06-23-2009, 05:04 PM
this is my favourite cup of tea, I absolutely love forest folks! looks like a fun scene to make in 3d. can't wait to see the first wips! good luck!

06-30-2009, 04:28 PM
Thatīs a very cute idear. I havenīt suspected to see anything like that in this challenge.

07-01-2009, 03:07 AM
WOW! Hard to peek one..both are amazing ideas, but the two green goblins really rockīs!:buttrock:
The tentacle vixen looks sweet too...humm...i donīt know...as i sayd, itīs tough to choose only one. Maybe all the characters?!
Anyway it will be great.

keeping my eyes on the progress...cheers!

07-01-2009, 07:04 AM
