07-22-2003, 07:24 PM
You have to post your wires. THe render is great but I think it doesnīt meka justice to you model.

Post the white mesh renders... they are great. Th jacket is awesome and the face looks like the origina Fishbourne.

07-22-2003, 07:34 PM
wow. I thought it was a photograph, and thought it was kinda cheap, but then I went to the website... that is amazing that it's a 3d model.

again: wow!

07-22-2003, 07:49 PM

Did you work for ESC or something?!?

that is bloody brilliant!

  :D

07-22-2003, 07:52 PM

07-22-2003, 07:54 PM

Very very shagadelic, and I thought you stole the poster as well.

07-22-2003, 07:55 PM
That is truly amazing man, I was looking at the un textured version on your site and the level of detail is unbelievable.

Nice work'

07-22-2003, 08:04 PM
I'm speechless ...

07-22-2003, 08:05 PM

I think the trans effect is just an illusion from some green lighting/spec.

07-22-2003, 08:07 PM
another mere compliment among the crowd

07-22-2003, 08:16 PM
wow looks exactly.. welldone!:applause:

07-22-2003, 08:20 PM

07-22-2003, 08:21 PM
you should make a new Idea ,not the old one

07-22-2003, 08:23 PM
one more thing, how long? be honest!

07-22-2003, 08:48 PM
Gah, that's really amazing! I'd like to see a un-smoothed wire, if that's not a problem, I want to know how one make those awsome details ;)

07-22-2003, 08:48 PM
I swore it was just a poster at first, then I visited your site
Amazing work:applause::applause:

07-22-2003, 08:51 PM
OUT OF THIS DARN FU***** WORLD! I feel as if I knew we are living in the matrix: itīs just not real!

07-22-2003, 08:57 PM

07-22-2003, 08:57 PM
Um... uh... yeah... uh... <gulp>... Whoa...

07-22-2003, 08:58 PM
*bows repeatly*
I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!

07-22-2003, 09:04 PM
nice work. especially the textures.
what modelling method did you use?

07-22-2003, 09:07 PM
That's amazing!!!!!

07-22-2003, 09:09 PM
Absolutely stunning piece of art! Wish I could do something like that.

07-22-2003, 09:36 PM
...   ...

is there a chance to get a HiRes of your art?:surprised

07-22-2003, 09:45 PM
There are books about creating digital humans from very well-respected artists. And their work doesn't even remotely come close to yours.

The world belongs to you.

07-22-2003, 09:49 PM
ithink it's time to hit something w/ a baseball bat now :P excellent work!! it is truly some photorealistic work you have there. I almost cannot tellt he differnce. great piece youhave shown us.

07-22-2003, 09:50 PM
I really hope that the place you work now does your work justice

07-22-2003, 09:52 PM
Whoa! That's great. What size image do you have on the face?

07-22-2003, 09:56 PM

I am going to cry now. my first look i couldn't tell it wasn't real! that is so realistic.

Your work is incredible.

07-22-2003, 09:57 PM
you make it so that it could be the reason why I am still enthousiastic about 3d. Some unnatural source is with you!!!

07-22-2003, 10:04 PM
That's not fair this guy can re-write the Matrix!!

07-22-2003, 10:05 PM

07-22-2003, 10:10 PM
what software do you use & where from are those textures?
how long did it take you to do everything?

07-22-2003, 10:10 PM
I love the model but the background does it no justice. Try a different color background which I think will give your model more justice especially the jacket. Hope this helps out. Great model once again.

07-22-2003, 10:22 PM
Wow. One of the best examples of photorealism I have ever seen on a piece. Very, VERY good work. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

07-22-2003, 10:24 PM
Is he rigged???

It would be very cool to have him say one of his lines from the matrix!!!

07-22-2003, 10:32 PM
I'd like to see the model with a different lighting...

Gentle Fury
07-22-2003, 10:34 PM
holy crap!!!!

that is nicer than his digital double in the actual movie!!!

07-22-2003, 10:39 PM
You have freed my mind... WOW, fantastic work!

07-22-2003, 10:40 PM
Excellent Work!
Can we see the texture map for the face, watermark it or something, being a texture artist I would love to check it out. The render also looks very un Max like, nice job!

07-22-2003, 10:51 PM
absolutely amazing stuff!

just wondering does he reacts to lights at all? I mean is he mapped with photo (includes all the high lights, shadow, bumps..), or custom color, bumb, spec, reflection maps which makes him ready to be interact with all 3d elements in a scene.

07-22-2003, 11:01 PM
soon actors are gonna be unenployed. great job!:applause:

07-22-2003, 11:27 PM
I have no words for this one

07-22-2003, 11:39 PM
Good work.

07-22-2003, 11:53 PM
It seems as if the face is just mapped on a uniform head shape ???!

07-23-2003, 12:40 AM
ohh my lord this is THE BEST PEICE OF 3D EVER MAN. No one has yet made a pic this perfect as far as I have seen this is positively amazing.

I bow in awe to you.

07-23-2003, 01:28 AM
He is the one!!!

This is the best 3D ever...bar none!! Wow, when I woke up this morning I didn't expect to see a photorealistic morpheus model. There isn't much more to say! If you don't have a job in the industry then I feel sorry for humanity.

07-23-2003, 01:39 AM
Oh my goodness! I thought that was a real picture....

07-23-2003, 01:42 AM
okay congrats, that's exactly morpheus. Jezus...

07-23-2003, 02:08 AM
Nice work overall:beer: .. but I'd really have a closer look at the way you're handling the ears. :)

07-23-2003, 02:15 AM
Well I am humbled...right down to my socks.
When I first saw the pic posted here in the forum I thought "OK, what's this noobie doing posting a photoshop trace-N-paste as a chracter work" :hmm:
Then I clicked your link and checked out the progress pics on your site. Then I still thought that you mapped a photo on a generic head shape :p
Then I saw your untextured model and the wire frames...and then I came too on the floor with my mouse clenched tightly in my fist. :D

Without repeating all that's been said already, that is some fantastic work. It is one of the few examples that I have seen that are ACTUALLY unbelieveable. It's so good it looks like a doctored 2D photograph...not even photorealistic 3D.

You nailed it...now just send that picture as a postcard with the URL to your project pages on your site to any VFX company you want and you'll be hired.

Congrats

07-23-2003, 02:26 AM
nice work

but before I bow down, I'd like to point out to the others that the image is much like http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/rl_img/poster_laurence_full.jpg. I'd think it's safe to say you had the model and mapped the face image on with a few tweaks.

I wonder if a closeup might fall apart.

nice job though :p

07-23-2003, 02:30 AM
That is incredible work

I have absolutely no crits whatsoever! You should apply to ESC - this beats the CG doubles in Matrix Reloaded hands down.

Amazing stuff, this is probably one of the best pieces of work that I have ever seen on CG Talk :applause:

07-23-2003, 03:35 AM

07-23-2003, 03:42 AM
i want to know more about your image.
how much time?
wich app?

really espectacular!
i still can't belive it!

07-23-2003, 03:45 AM
Oh, my god...

Awesome!!

07-23-2003, 03:52 AM
That is the most perfect replica of Laurence Fishbourne I have ever seen... even tho I haven't seen many :D

Absolutely impressive~!

07-23-2003, 04:23 AM
can anyone say... freeeeeeeeeeeeeeak :)

07-23-2003, 05:00 AM
 man..i really like this guy's work..and i admire your previous gladiator character..(check his website)awesome!:buttrock:
this is amazing....you're the man!the ONE!:applause:

07-23-2003, 05:09 AM
OMG, you are the one.
the clothes model are amazing as well as the head.

07-23-2003, 05:27 AM
Unreal...your skill is unreal..congrats..though your layout on the wires seems rather odd..ie, mouth are modeled like they can't be opened and some very weird distribution around the head..was this intended or are you still new to modeling? If so, congrats x 2.

07-23-2003, 05:37 AM
I cant stop looking at the pic if its real or CG, its absolutely amazing.... you got some amazing skillz

07-23-2003, 06:27 AM
wooo :buttrock: when i see the pic, I said Its the real actor, and its a fake.. but when I see your website

wooooo:surprised  :applause:

07-23-2003, 06:51 AM
incredible, it seems real!

07-23-2003, 07:24 AM
What bothers me is this point :
the head lighting is different from the body lighting.
That's why i'd like to see the head with a completly different lighting.

On the other hand, the body modeling is really cool.

07-23-2003, 08:15 AM
The model itself is great - my hats off! But the baked lights in the textures do not amaze me.

I really dont like hi-poly stuff with "camera mapped" photos.

Not very usefull for any production at all...

What about making some real shaders for him?? Then it would be flawless:rolleyes:

07-23-2003, 08:29 AM

You deserve a trophy...or three.

07-23-2003, 08:31 AM
I find the mesh amazing and if the textures are actually full shaders and not just prelit textures then even better. But what does bug me is that you had the skill to make this amazing model but decided to just recreate a movieposter instead of making a truly unique piece.
I'd love to see what you could have done putting Morpheus in an action scene or cool pose you yourself came up with.

I know it's tempting to recreate something just to see how close you can get it. But in the end all you do is still to create a copy albeit a flawless one.
Hope that didn't come across as harsh because the model itself is really great

07-23-2003, 08:53 AM
just one word... well, maybe 2 : IN-CREDIBLE!!!!

07-23-2003, 08:53 AM
Pitzutz! (Blast in hebrew)

I too thought you stole a picture or something, but man, you've made a hell of peace here.

Great work!

Ned the djed
07-23-2003, 09:10 AM
Thank you so much for all your replies!

This 3d model was made only for some still images (that's why i've modelled only the upper body).

I modelled it on Max 5 with polygon editing.

here's an un textured version:

Can not reply easily cause my internet connection is broken...

Tim Deneau
07-23-2003, 09:11 AM
Excellent, looks just like him. You did great work on the clothing, too.

07-23-2003, 09:14 AM
I look at it for the first time... and I'm thinking whats with a photo??? I scroll down to see the replies and then I go back to the post and see the URL. omgogmgmg THIS IS TOOO FSCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
/me sings praises of teh Ned the djed

:buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

07-23-2003, 09:16 AM
really cool!!!:)

07-23-2003, 09:28 AM
Only a question. The texture looks just like a photo. As a photo it is yet iluminated.... Would it work in others views and enviorements? Is allways lighted the same way?

I think you have the mesh detailed enought to use his own volume for rendering. Are you using some skin shadre?

Thanks for your time

07-23-2003, 10:33 AM
So when is he getting put in the CGtalk gallery?
If you goto SIGGRAPH now you will be a hero.
Somebody sponsor this guy.

Please post some info as to how you went about modelling this...

and need I say.. its amazing... *drops down unconscious*

07-23-2003, 11:47 AM
Well it looks fantastic.........however......theres something wrong....cant put my finger on it....but looks like Camera Mapping to me .....lets see him in a different setting with different lighting, there just seems to be a little glitch in the matrix.
some up close large renders from a few angles with a default light setup should sort it.......
(waits to be thrown out the building..........

07-23-2003, 11:50 AM
Forgot to say the modelling is great:applause: by the way

07-23-2003, 01:17 PM
this is unbelievable!

how long did it take you?
is the texture selfmade or taken from
can you post them? even in small
size or with watermarks

07-23-2003, 01:36 PM
Lots of the answers to the many questions in here can be found on the site:

http://www.getbuzzy.com/modeling/71b.jpg [shows the original* mapping]

I like the modeling but dunno about the textures, they serve well for the poster but would be cooler to put that much ability elsewhere where it's most creative :(.

07-23-2003, 01:42 PM
well, spank you very much for kicking my day off to a unbelivable start!

i checked your websites out. i love everything, the caveman, skecthes, gladiator and all your process shots of morpheos.

has lawrence seen it? u should show him! i think it would be awsome if you did the full model then animate him with his bad ass sword pulling some hot shapes!

you are the matrix!

07-23-2003, 02:39 PM
Your work is incredible. I really suppose photo :)
very realistic work ned !

07-23-2003, 02:46 PM
wow.. your gladiator pic is nuts as well.

07-23-2003, 02:50 PM
very nice work:love: :applause:

07-23-2003, 03:30 PM
wish i, myself can get into the matrix..:applause:

07-23-2003, 03:41 PM
wow so much commotion but well deserved. clap clap : )

07-23-2003, 04:52 PM
Holy $hit!!!!!! This model is unbelievable!!! It truly does not look 3d at all!! Your lighting and texturing is invaluable to your amazing looking model. Your work here has just blown my mind in a way that has not happened in a long time. Good work my mang.

Cheers!

07-23-2003, 06:20 PM
OMG, thats the coolest thing ive seen in a long time.

Excellent and Beautiful work! :applause:

07-24-2003, 10:48 AM
That worths to reply on - indeed very photoreal and splendid modeling. My congrats. You made an amazing job and so fast.

07-24-2003, 03:25 PM
just 2 words, simply mindblowing...:applause:

Ned the djed
07-24-2003, 07:20 PM
Thank you for all your replies! :buttrock:

Couldn't reply the last days because got problems with my web connection.

A lot of people asked me if was just a frontal mapping projection of a photo.

No it isn't.

The face material hasn't got a self illumation.
It receives lights and shadows.

The diffuse map is made from a picture of laurence fishburne and then highly modified in photoshop. I've removed the most of the shadows in it, and set a default lighting.
I started with a planar map, and then unwrap it.

The picture "71b.jpg" which shows distortions on the top of the head is a process pic, not final mapping.

Here's a new lighting of the face (lights on the sides):

07-24-2003, 09:08 PM
Wow extraordinary modeling

07-25-2003, 03:22 AM
Thanks for clearing that up! :D

Looks cool!

07-25-2003, 04:34 AM
Dude, this is incredible, I saw your Gladiator model back in the days when you first made it, I think you posted it at Polycount, this is utterly perfect, it's probably better than the one they used to make the movie.

07-26-2003, 12:30 PM
Well can't get much more photoreal than that ;) excellent likeness,, must spent quite awhile fine tuning everything. Great work

You have received the CGtalk choice award .Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! Inspiring work!

upon receiving this award, it guarantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame (http://gallery.cgtalk.com) - which you are now placed

P.S. Please email me @ tito@cgnetworks.com so I can send you the award .psd file

07-26-2003, 05:55 PM
what a cooooool guy!!!!

07-26-2003, 06:50 PM
Wow, absolut superp!!! :applause:

07-26-2003, 08:11 PM
What's the image res. of the face map? Can it hold up to a close up? I can't see any detail to good w/ small images.

07-26-2003, 11:42 PM
The first two in your wallpaper section, the head looked like it was copied straight from the Matrix poster, the 3rd one looks different. I took the one from the Matrix site and layed it over top of the first two in your wallaper section its perfect! A perfect match! The Matrix poster was a bit bigger but when sized down it matches the one you posted.

Its exactly like the real thing! Exactly!...

07-29-2003, 12:10 PM
Did you send it to the man ?
i'm gonna check your site right now...

08-06-2003, 05:54 AM
very realistic

08-06-2003, 04:55 PM
wow the site is pretty impressive, the gladiator model is like...

08-06-2003, 05:18 PM
Well, hat's off to you m8:)

I agree with LilDragon with the award because, regardless of any
quality issues this particular model may or may not have,
"this Boy's got skilz!"

So, in a production environment, he would excel and fit in quite nicely.

Sounds & looks like he has a full grasp of the techniques and issues that arise when doing digital-double / character modeling/detail work.

Great job m8!

08-20-2003, 06:25 AM
wow, great work!!

10-25-2003, 12:06 AM
I can't belive it! is it really a mesh? wich app. did u use?

10-25-2003, 02:35 AM
OMG, I can't beleive that's 3D. :surprised

10-25-2003, 02:41 AM
nice work there, keepit up :surprised :)

10-25-2003, 04:44 AM
holy crap... film quality for sure. Awesome modeling and texturing. Do you work for ESC? :buttrock:

10-25-2003, 07:32 AM
Weeeell Done, :D

10-25-2003, 11:50 AM
Very nice work!:applause:

10-25-2003, 12:13 PM
A-MAZING............................. speechless

10-25-2003, 06:01 PM
Wow, guy, you're crazy good. Love both this model and the Gladiator stuff on your site. When can we see more? :)

10-29-2003, 08:30 PM
whats ESC? and his origional post is totally a photo i am convinced. if it isn't can't he put the model in different positions or something? using photographic images for the textures isn't cool, thats just my opinion.

10-30-2003, 06:15 AM
Check the link to his site, 5 maybe more wireframe's there. I also think if photographic textures can make models look as stunning this (if it uses em, that is) then i'm all for them.

10-30-2003, 06:22 PM
man ........i cant believe...its cg....its truely an amazing job

10-31-2003, 01:24 AM
Wholey crap thats sweet.... You should go into the movie bussiness they need more people like u. On your site u should make some tutorials that would be sweet.

11-10-2003, 09:01 PM
Ned the djed

tell us also dear which program you have used
look like lightwave 3d

11-10-2003, 09:21 PM
I believe in one of his 2 posts he said he used 3D studio max, in poly edit mode. Kinda hard to miss since he has only responded like twice ;).

Great modeling, I think you should finish it and do some other poses too!

11-11-2003, 12:52 AM
great work

11-25-2003, 03:01 AM
This looks so much more real than the digital Neo that they used in some of the fight sequences of The Matrix: Reloaded. They should have had you do Neo!

11-25-2003, 10:25 AM
man, i remeber seeing this aages ago. cant beleive its still going!!

11-25-2003, 08:19 PM
excellent skills, but pitty he modeled from something as lame as the Matrix

11-26-2003, 05:18 PM
  ... wow:applause: simply amazing

11-27-2003, 10:46 PM
Relly nice work, good textures, good model, good result... :)

Real? What is real? how do you define real? If it's something you can smell, or touch, then real is just, electric signals interperted by your brain...
Wow, great work man... I dislocated my jaw after viewing your website... You should've worked for WB! :( They used 3d models for all their fight scenes and such, from the second movie on... ;) should have finished this earlier, and they might have just hired you :)

It looks good, but it's not worth all the positive critiques I feel, although it looks good, it's mainly because you used projections, just project an image on a mesh to make it look like the real thing. It's also the image used for the promotional posters I believe... you may want to look at this link:

We are just looking at a picture, projected on a mesh, not at a piece of 3D, how good it may look.

Credit goes to Mihai Angelescu who actually did texturing and shading.

Although I feel you cheated on shading/texturing, you were good on your way with the modeling... Just tweak some more, the chin for example should be adjusted a little, also the forehead needs ajustment... mostly in the depth axis ofcourse...
