View Full Version : OpenExr destroys images.

Hey there

I've searched "open exr" and did not find anything about this, so either people haven't noticed/don't care, or i'm doing it wrong. Sadly it might be the latter. -_-

Open Exr destroys my renders!

Shadows (even raytraced shadows) becomes jaggy.
SSS doesn't render at all.
Reflections becomes jaggy.
Blurry reflections becomes even more jaggy.

When i render the exact same picture in tiff, everything looks "perfect".

System: WinXp64bit, Maya 2009 unlimited 64bit, MentalRay as renderer.

Anyone had the same problem with openExr? :shrug:

OpenEXR is a file format (developed by ILM, and used by a huge number of VFX companies and people around the world)
It's one of the few (I can't think of any more off the top of my head) that supports an arbitrary number of channels/layers, and supports up to full float image data.

Are you sure that changing the format from tif to exr isn't changing some other defaults? Is the colour space of the two images the same? If it's making the exr render be linear and the tif be gamma-corrected, then that will obviously change things...
