View Full Version : Strange shadows with normal maps
Im trying to setup up a scene with normal mapped surfaces and a physical sun and sky as lightsource. But when I apply normal maps to the surfaces I end up with strange and really dark shadows. As long as i stick to bump maps there's no problem.
Is there a solution to this?

Well it looks like the normal tangent of the surface is bent.
Itīs hard to tell if itīs the shader, the Normal map or the geometry without further information.
If itīs an geometry error try to switch to the polygone editing mode in Maya, go to "Normals" in the menue and klick "Set to Face".

HAHA! Sometimes you only need a couple of hours away from the problem to realise whats wrong. Wrong texture... SORRY for taking your time!
