i am looking to study abroad but cant seem to find a decent place to study, everywhere has mixed reviews and its throwing me way off. has anyone studied in the uk and gained valuable skills from your course? I want to attend a games design course more focused on 3d modeling and animation. Is teesside any good? thats one that keeps popping up in my searches also digipen. Any advice would be great and it does not have to relate to the uk only.

Hi Steve

There are a couple of places that might help you. First of all is the thread about Universities in the UK on CGTalk ( Another good thread for information written by students is the Best Universities for Animation ( thread on The Student Rooms.

I'm not a student, but I do teach on a very good 3D animation programme that includes a 3D Games Art degree as one pathway and it definitely has a heavy slant on 3D modelling and animation. If you can wait about three weeks, the third year Games Art students will have made their final submissions and there will be lots of online art to see then. If you're interested in seeing some award winning University of Hertfordshire work from previous years look here ( .

I haven't taught at Teeside, but they do have a good reputation for Games Art. They have an unofficial forum ( that is slanted towards VFX, but you could post a question there to ask the students what the Uni is like.

Good luck with your search

thanks for your reply. i read in on of your previous posts that you highly recommend getting your head around the basics of art such as proportion, scale, and anatomy. Iv got one or two andrew loomis books that im hoping to work through over the summer they seem very good and interesting. I have only recently discovered huddersfield, and from what iv seen it looks very promising. Plus the canalside studios is a very attractive bonus. would anyone know if huddersfield would be a good choice of Uni? also i was looking at taking the foundation year of game and animation in Teesside but iv heard that the area isnt too good.

I am also trying to get a degree in animation and have applied for both teeside and bournemouth. I got an offer letter from teeside and now i am waiting for any intimation from bournemouth...

If I get a call from bournemouth i might be tempted to take an admission there. However, I did get a chance to meet the officials of teeside when they had come down to India. As far as I know they don't seem to be bad either. they said that they have invested in top technologies for animation.

however i am still confused cos there's a lot of money at stake considering the low value Indian rupees has compared to pounds.
