View Full Version : transparency map on objects casts square shadow??

i have an grid with a grass texture/alpha on it, in open gl it looks fine. when i render in maya 8 (at work) it renders a square shadow. i know there is a way to get around this. anyone know what i have to do?


i just turned off GI and the shadows work correctly now. but i need this to work with gi and fg for light baking. any ideas?

Did you map the alpha map to the photons attribute to your Maya materiel ? That is, did you map the same grass alpha to the transparency channel in the photons attribute ? I think this might help.

1) Select your material.
2) Scroll down, you will see photons' attributes.
3) click that button, get attributes from maya.

nuts, yeah all my materials all have that checked. any other ideas anyone?

is this a maya material?

if it is, open the raytrace options for the material and set "shadow attenuation" to zero
