View Full Version : character animation tools??

Does anyone have any secret (but not too secret!) tips on character rigging and animation in Cinema 4D XL7? It seems this (along with subdivisions) is the main area where 4D falls down.
In particular I'm talking about simulating muscle bulges and accurate bends in limbs.
ps: there's a rumour that XL8 will have a vastly improved character animation toolset. Here's hoping!

I also use Cinema4D at home and Maya at school. its two very different worlds for animation. I would like to be experimenting with Cinema's IK and rigging, but the manual just isn't helping me. Any sguuestions?

do U seen GOLEM for Cinema?
Think this bunch of pluginŽs and expressions made charakteranimation a lot easyer...
(bsw: IŽam intrested in Charakteranimation, so that I think about Maya and Softimage, but seeing the latest Cinema Alpha makes my happy =)...)

Golem is really worth its money. Sure it's no character studio, but it helps a lot.
Also take a look at Naam's boning tutorial, which is a good start.

Hello Puddlefish, I feel your pain. Let's just hope you're right about Cinema 4D XL8. In the meantime, you can download this leg rig tutorial/scene I got from Wes over at http://www.wesware.com/. Good luck:)

Wes's tut and file are great and there is another slight variation from Steve at www.http://members.madasafish.com/~animator/
I would also look at puppeteer freom happyship.com It is free, and though I like what Golem can do I find this will allow you to do some of the same things buttakes a little know how. Basically its like creating your own CA scripts without knowing how to code. Fantastic plug, though gollem will sure help your rigging and speed up the process.
As for version 8,mright now those would have to be just rumors as nothing is being let out of the bag yet. I say whether or not there are Blunt Trauma will be the plugin for you. THe first hun will be an expression hub and will add even more than what Puppeteer does and will allow you to do many other things as well.
