View Full Version : Sci-fi/Fantasy Cinematic

04 April 2009, 08:54 PM
Me and two friends have started doing a little project together, its basically a short animation with a strong sci-fi/fantsy theme, we have just started, so not much to show yet, but I thought I'll show some stuff here anyway, this is a..platform, which the main character in this little animation will walk onto. ^^

Thats really cool! I wish I had friends that were into CG to do projects with :(. I eagerly await this project's progress.

Here is the walkway leading out to the platform. Or atleast a part of it :)

holy cow that set is gonna be awesome. Looks like you will have tons of texturing to do though. Are you three just kind of building everything or do you have tasks designated for each (such as animator, modeller, etc.)?

04 April 2009, 09:23 PM
Thanks. Yup, lots of texturing to do. I will be modelling and texturing everything (and unwrapping *sigh*) One of us will do all the rigging, animation, and the third one will make the shading, lighting, rendering and compositing :)

dude this is gonna be sick. I'm stoked for this. If this project disintegrates I will probably hunt you down...

05 May 2009, 08:43 PM
Here is a start on the character, still blocking out alot of stuff :)

05 May 2009, 12:27 PM
hello, i'm the rigger/animator on this project and here's the animatic that we're moving on with.
We're all siked about the outcome of this.
Now on to production!

Here is a closeup of a panel from the door that will open in the beginning of the cinematic. Been busy concepting, and figuring stuff out, but here goes:

Hi Guys!

I'm the dude doing the Shading/Lighting/Rendering/Compositing/FX and blablablal stuff;-)

I wanna share a WIP of the mattepainting that's goint to be the environment outside the whole main area..(U're gonna se it when the door opens in the beginning of the cinematic. Of cource it's going to be pretty overexposed and stuff in the beginning, but hey, allways good to plan for the unexpected:-) .)

Well well.. Here goes.. Let me know what y'all think! :-) (

05 May 2009, 01:41 PM
Looks pretty interesting y´all? Good Luck Guys!

Haha I'll have to relate to Orchid Face on this one... Would've been nice to have had some friends to model/animate with haha...

What I'm trying to say is that you dudes are a good team... Building a friendship around CG is one of the coolest things in my oppinion!! Good Luck dudes!!!

05 May 2009, 08:15 AM
Good luck guys! This is going to be sick! :)

05 May 2009, 10:18 PM
Finished modelling the door, not in its final shape here, some parts are missing, hiding them while working on the surrounding area :) alot of stuff left here, though =)

05 May 2009, 10:46 PM
glad to see this is still moving along. Although at this point when I try to comprehend the amount of uv mapping and texturing that is to come for you guys I can't help but wet myself from fear.

05 May 2009, 07:21 AM
haha, yeah... Actually it isnt THAT bad...sofar. The door is already UVmapped and half-textured so. But yeah, I don't look forward to it ^^

05 May 2009, 03:32 PM
The detail on all of this is absolutely gorgeous!…always nice to discover another Sci-Fi animation going on!

Look forward to seeing more.

Nice detalis!
Really dig the sci fi setting.
Couldn't view the animatic, but in short what is the story about?

I'm curious though, would you be interested in any character help on this project?

Either way, it's looking great. Looking forward to the finished result.
Keep it up!

So here's an update on the Lighting....

The previous one was rendered in maxwell to get a quick preview,
I've now broken that into bits and fed them to mental ray. out comes an array of blargs and usefull passes and this is the composited WIP result. (

The way I've thought about this is that I want as few boudries in compositing possible, so I've divided the scene into passes with that in mind... I'm now fully able to light this scene in realtime in a physical manner:-)

08 August 2009, 04:22 AM
This last shot is just amazing!

08 August 2009, 09:21 PM
Blip-blop, I'm a WIP-Bot!

08 August 2009, 12:02 AM
Sick design! :D

08 August 2009, 09:03 AM
I'm very glad to see that your a pro in the CG industry, because if this is what hobbyists can do then I think I'd go jump off a bridge.

08 August 2009, 10:00 PM

small update on the robots head :)

08 August 2009, 05:13 PM
This is an update regarding the main character.. I'm doing the head right now parrallell with the lighting /shading/rendering/comp/FX of the doorscene...
Modelling about done, I've just started on texturing the head,, so this is VERY WIP:-) ( (
hehehe Largest post EVER!

08 August 2009, 08:32 PM
Forgot to grab the renders form the farm again,,, so I spent today polishing the texture on the main characters head... there ya go! For now all the skin is just lambert-shaded.. ,, I realize now also, I have to remoddle some stuff before I move on.. ah well (
