Well the modeling texturing, and rigging are pretty much DONE!. Dont ask how long it took. in 4 weeks there should be a 30 second short little animation that goes with that Im make with Chamade. He's making the rider which is posted somewere on this forum.

Here are the stats

3DSMax4, polygons, 315,000 total after smooth

UVs, maya
painted, deeppaint and photoshop around 100megs in textures

Maya over 100 bones, smooth binded, reverse iK legs, spine IK
tail and neck, set driven key's with tweeked weights for the wings. some blend shapes, and soft bodies in the animation.

rendered in maya (horridly slow and unstable, good bumpmap quality)

here is an older unposed textured render..

now i gotta go work on the enviroument, and start animation. Yipee, it never ends.

Thanks to all in the maya forum for trying to crack the blendshape/fk deformation issue,

Thanks a lot Dan, There was a misunderstanding at this post.. and it was my fault... again I apologize to all those I might have offended

I don't understand about any misunderstanding in this thread, but the dragon rules!!! .. I love the scale ... a solid job there in texturing. Bravo :applause:

Good work Tyler, keep it comming.

05-07-2002, 06:24 AM
Awsome man! I love it!
One question why use IK on the spine? I'm still learning about rigs but from what i've learnt so far IK is bad in most places other then the legs?

05-07-2002, 06:31 AM
great job! but one thing that kinda bugs me is that the hind legs look a bit to small thats a lot of weight for those small legs...maybe its just me...other than that perfect dragon, i like those textures...so how long did it take to make it?.......just playing :p im looking forward to the animation....

HAHA! That's brilliant! :D

05-07-2002, 08:02 AM

pete and ryan... nice.. very funny.. thats prolly gonna be me when I get done texturing this tower..

kz: its a spline IK in the tail.. the spine from the hips to the neck is FK

essentially the spline IK in the tail and neck allows me to achieve that nice flowing by taking but only moving around a few points..

the legs are too dang small.. but after all that texturing rigging and stuff.... PFFSSTT.. not in this life time

Waaaaaha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!you are a genius!!!!!A so good model into a so funny unusual situation!!!GREAT!!! :airguitar :buttrock: 5 stars

LOL, I almost spat out my coffee!!! Perfect fit of those supporters :D

Great dragon too!...I wonder how hard / impossible it would be to rig that creature in Max. I've spent weeks rigging my PA challenge character and it's only now just about working :(

Looking forward to the animation!

Dude that dragon is one of the hilarious (and best) ones I've seen around....:D

I must say that his eyes are kinda friendly though....

Keep it coming!!!

What can I say?! THIS IS GREAT

5 Stars from me!

very nice!! I like the design, he's like a crossmix of a young toad, a creature of the swamp, and a goat!!! Me like.

Yeah, and I'd like to see a screencap of the bone setup.
Capital job! Brilliant! Dragons are fun. :)

05-07-2002, 08:23 PM
nice dragon! it should be our next challenge.. dragons are so inspiring.. classic but hell.. I keep in mind doing my own one too one day ;) k back to your character, is there any possibility with maya to make some translucency in the wings? could add a lot ;)
nice work again!

05-07-2002, 09:12 PM
"it should our next challenge"
Yeah! That's one challenge I'd take part in. I've been wanting to do a dragon, I even have a few reference sketched I've done for it, just haven't got to it yet.

Thanx all for the comments.. still working away at setting up the set for animation. and caloborating with my partner... the challenge sounds nice maybe ill enter a full tweaked illustration with radiosity and what not.

There are light transparencies on the wings.. tehy dont really show on the black background..

here are some wire frames High and low poly and a smooth view port image...

back to work..
