View Full Version : lightwave and .psd's

Are there any disadvantages to using .psd's for texture maps instead of .tgas? I've noticed it helps cut down the file size which seem to make any network rendering happy; however, is there any hit on render times etc?

The only thing I can think of is that your PSD file might be larger than your TGA due to additional layers. If that's the case, you'll eat up more memory, which could affect your renders. The best thing to do is create a simple sphere object, texture it with your PSD image and render. Then replace the PSD in the Image Editor with your TGA and render again. That should give you a starting point for comparison. :)
