Okay here's my concept. I'm thinking of a war machine that resembles a scorpion and can burrow/drill through the ground. It's will retract into the body when burrowing. What it will do is carry and deploy cyborg troopers right into the heart of battle. The machine scouts are sent prior to find the best areas for the WarScorpion to emerge from. The scouts fly high in the sky and make thermal markings for the WarScorpion to burrow towards. As it flies out of the ground its legs come out from the sides of the body. Meanwhile it's pinchers grab at enemy vehicles throwing them into the air. Guns on it's roof & sides will fire as the cyborg troopers emerge from it's belly for ground combat.

Thanks Ferx glad you like it. I'm trying to improve with every challenge I enter and I know I'll have to work hard to get the result I want. :)

Okay, heres a concept sketch of the scorpion without the front arms.

The sketch also shows a sketch of the main arm with a drill conept at the front. The idea will be that it's claws will close for the drilling process and open up again when drilling is finished so that the machine can cause mayhem when it surfaces - like throwing enemy vehicles into the air.

Also another sketch here shows how the legs of the machine will slide into place and then retract into the body when the machine is ready to drill into the earth.

Yeah, I agree it needs quite a bit of work. I've been researching hydraulic arms/legs and so forth. Thanks for the comment. Hopefully I'll have some more ideas to post within the next couple of days.

So here is my latest - I've decided to make the nose of the machine the drill, the arms were getting too complicated. I'm planning on working out how the legs and arms can properly retract into the body. Comments are welcome.

haha! The cone/digger bit reminds me a lil of the uber cone in Gurren Lagann 8D! That's so cool :D!

Here are how things are going at the moment. I'm trying to find the right shape for the machine and how the limbs appear from within the body. Not long now before I hopefully have the answers. This certainly has been a bit of a difficult concept for me, but I refuse to give up!

I think, you should make it more unique.
It just looks like a mixture of the scorpion Transformer of the movie and machine of Jules Verne.
Perhaps just don't think "human". Design another head, add more stings, make the stings form a triangle at the top of your machine, the outer shell of your machine might get blades, tanklike chains, the top might look like that of a sandworm, the overall shape might look like a sword cutting through the earth and the enemies, or severals blades of different forms, rotating, pushing, cutting.

Well, in my sketchbook of the movie Terminator II they write about something called "Silverfish landtorpedo". Something which travels through the earth. Perhaps such keywords might inspire you ^^

Sincere thanks for taking the time to offer me some advice. It's clear that I have been struggling with this, but your response has helped me alot. Most importantly the comment on "thinking human" really hit home for me. I didn't realise I was completely blind to that up until recently. I will take on all that you have suggested and hopefully come up with something much better. Thanks again, it's such a big help.
