View Full Version : DWIV-2D-Sellis-Norm Invoker
03-18-2009, 09:07 PM
Just some quick thumbs to start proceedings, more to come but i want to see if any of these could be taken forward. The idea is a Norm Invoker but i'm keeping it very open at the moment incase the newer thumbs have more promise.
03-18-2009, 09:21 PM
i really like the stance of figure 3, open ready to fight, telling the enemy to come get some.
03-18-2009, 09:27 PM
agreed. definitely love the number 3 approach. looks bad ass
03-18-2009, 11:53 PM
mporter, Digiegg tah very much :). Still messing around with ideas though but yeah i am keen on his confident stance. However, he looks more 'warlord' than 'invoker' imo!! anyhoo here's some more to consider...
03-19-2009, 12:19 AM
keep it coming dude.. damn great the silhouetes!
03-19-2009, 01:30 PM
Lookin' good stu monster. Really like no 1 of the original batch of thumbs, he feels like a magic user, whereas 3 is definitely more hand to hand combat warlord material.
Second on the bottom row of the second batch of thumbs has a strong design sense to me right now, quite an unusual silhouette. Number 4 on the top row has some interesting shapes going on on it's back that could be turned to either invoker or warlord, though if you were going the latter, I'd be tempted to bulk the body up a little.
Working on my own at the mo!
03-19-2009, 01:54 PM
Yea i also like #1 from the first batch, then 4, then 5. On the latest btach i like the bottom middle(#3 bottom) one best, looks really interesting and has character, top #5 also looks quite cool though its a bit rough. I'll wait for more development :), keep it up!
03-19-2009, 02:10 PM
yeah I'd go for 1 in the original batch as well - instantly caught my eye!
03-19-2009, 08:53 PM
Zephyri: Cheers Sam, Yeah Numero one is my fave on that page as well although i like elements of some of the others. About time i start developing the ideas!
FrozZT: Thanking you :) like i said to Sam it's my fave as well.
Intervain : Coolio :P
Here are some more since i'm not totally sure with my current ones :S I was toying with the idea of mounting him on a giant boar, dunno why but i reckon it would be cool!

Coupla scribbles exploring my thumbnails.
03-25-2009, 12:45 AM
Man.. Those developement sketches is lookin juicy! I really like the second one and the head of the first. The second one looks like its got potential.. I dont know how yo uare feeling about them, you've got a lot of really nice thumbs to work with further.. Listen to your feelings a bit, they always tells me what to do! Keep up the good work!
03-25-2009, 09:43 AM
Looking good stu, the second one looks far more invokerish than the first. The first looks more like a warrior, despite the head dress.
03-25-2009, 05:53 PM
Really liking that last one, Stu... I think he has possibility, maybe with some more thought given to his whole culture, give yourself some ideas for props! And you know he needs a pig of some sort! Ehehe. I do like the leafy/feathery headdress of the first guy though, that's quite unique.
03-25-2009, 06:37 PM
Hi there, :arteest:
Really nice concepts here,
The one on second sheet, second row, in the middle, fella on a horse got my attention.
Anyways, cool concepts.
Keep up the good work.
I wish you luck in this battle my fellow comrade!
Realy like the last pic, the whole woodland hermit witch doctor looks realy cool on him, love the head-dress and the mask hes got on aswel. Maybe do some sketches of his staff and other props that he might use like Sam suggested, just to try and get mind going some more him. Love the progression of all the sketches. Keep up teh cool work my man.
03-25-2009, 10:38 PM
Designs awesome, no doubt! pose is a bit static, though - looks like he's waiting for a bus.
Needs a steed, I reckon. Also, loving the moobs. ;)
03-25-2009, 11:31 PM
cool sketch, man!!! :)
keep it UP!!!
03-26-2009, 12:14 AM
great sketches..love that loose energetic feel...
03-26-2009, 12:24 AM
FrozZT- Cheers mate, still playing about. Yeah i'm liking the shamanistic style of the second but kinda want to make an over the top headress:P....i'll keep developing for now :)
Fightpunch - Cheers Daz mate, yeah i'll look into making my designs more invoker orientated.
Zephyri - tah Sam i reckon you're bang on there, need to make sure that i have a culture to base my designs around although i am considering havin them very heavily nature based. God knows i need a pig in there somewhere! we'll see :P
aeonseraph - Cheers much appreciated, your design is look great i'll stick in a comment soon :)
AoB - Cheers Al my good man.
Lefoosh - thanks Chris yeah i had noticed he was lookin a bit stiff :P Cheers though.

I love these! So many ideas. Faves so far include #1 on the latest post and still #1 of the very first page.
Quick question, how long does it take you for each of those images?
03-26-2009, 03:15 AM
Hey Sellis! Number 2 on the 11th post is awesome! I love big fat guys! The 1 in the middle on your latest post is great as well, with a nice set of garments he can put off a really nice silhouette, keep up the great work man, watching this one closely!
03-26-2009, 10:19 PM
hey S, loving the first of those new posts - really feels like he's channeling some ethereal energies or somesuch! liking the roots and horns, really nice nature iconography
bestial heads a nice change on things, playing a bit close to the demonic side of things, though...? lightning bolt eyes are always a nice touch, too!
looking forward to seeing this in colour!
03-26-2009, 10:35 PM
Nice drawings very nice skills in the 2d. the bigger fatter ones have a stong feel to them.
03-27-2009, 09:11 AM
Have to say that your concepts are looking really cool! I'm liking the first of the most recent posts also... He's looking really powerful! Looking forward to see your ideas progress man!
Your sketches are awesome ! I like all your ideas... Waiting to see where you gonna go.
Keep it up :arteest:

NH - Thanking you :)
Some quick head doodles done last night:
awesome! designs :bowdown:keep it up, I cant wait to see more!
04-02-2009, 01:04 PM
Heads are looking awesome Stu... the first post of the full bodied concepts you posted before the heads looks a little school boy ish with those pants and boots the way they are, but I like the menace he has.
Heads wise I like the middle of the top row of three, the tusk like headdress things are cool looking and make him feel very voodooish but i also like the orcish feel of bottom left too.
04-02-2009, 02:47 PM
keep it up:beer:
04-06-2009, 09:25 PM
Zoox - cheers :)
Zephyri - Thanks Sam, i'm inclined to follow that route. Just finished this sketch and gonna try another direction, fatter, more shamanistic etc...
Ataulfo - Thanks :D
So here's the new sketch, not convinced its the right direction though :s
04-06-2009, 09:32 PM
Wicked horns man! Not sure if I like him more then your previous group of guys tho, Can't wait to see which design you choose!
04-06-2009, 10:47 PM
Woah Stu now that is what I am talking about!
I know what you mean about direction though, it seems to be split in two with the head being very beastial and the body being more man.
If I had to choose I would say make the body more beastial to match the head, as that looks like the strongest part of the design, which is just mental!
04-07-2009, 11:47 AM
wow, really cool last sketch! it looks earthbound and natural to me.. believable too..
but your "fatter" dudes look worthy, too.. hmm can't decide. you're going the medieval way as far as i do mostly scifi.. perhaps we should try and explore the other directions,.. but i'm already a little gridlocked, u 2 ? :)
but love your sketching skills, this is all so great *G* aiming to be able to this in future too.. but i still suck.. so addicted to lines.. hehe
keep it up!
04-07-2009, 09:37 PM
Go with a fatty, the last one is too generic :)
04-08-2009, 11:35 PM
GregStrangis- Thanks, yeah i was pretty undecided so still messing about :)
Hazzard65- Cheers matey!
Syrez-one- yeah i know what you mean, im kind of inclined to go with the fatter guy as well. Cheers for the kind comments.
fightpunch- Daz my man, i've given it a shot
04-10-2009, 11:23 AM
Excellent work  I really like the small blue eyes and the little detail with the asymmetrical horns on the face. Your character seems a bit moody and lost in that pose :)
04-10-2009, 02:57 PM
Oh man loved your thumbs and really like the approach you've taken. Big and bulky.. To me he's got mysticism and tribal powers written all over him, so the invoker bit clearly is there. Keep working it!
04-10-2009, 03:22 PM
I also like 'em. Though I also must admit that you should try other poses, more action within or something like that. Or if you prefer him stay, perhaps he might look like a champion, foot on a victim or just wielding an impressive weapon. Or some trophys ... well ... it's up to you ;)
04-14-2009, 10:13 PM
MartinNielsen - Understood :P Cheers for the comments :)
DefiledVisions - Thanks man, been busy so only managed a quick scribble
DeadInTheAttic - yeah same response to the first question, still, tahnks :D
04-14-2009, 10:21 PM
I much perfer the last doodle pose as opposed to the one you posted before it. Suits him better, its like he is conjuring up a nasty spell and about to unleash it on someone! That red and blue color scheme is quite nice as well, keeps catching my attention. Can't wait to see more!
sellis, nice sketches and original characters you have here. keep going
04-15-2009, 12:01 AM
Hey dude, your I love the work your doing with the horns and some of his garment design! I can't wait to see your final image!
04-22-2009, 01:25 PM
Love your thumbs.Good work
I'll watch this tread.
