Here's some progress. I'm going to as much sculpting as possible with the number of tris i have before exporting to zbrush. ( ( (

~3.200 tris

Looks pretty good. Do you have any reference or concept? I would say there are a few places that you could save geometry and still be able to describe the same shape. Especially in areas like the legs and the back. I like the shape though, very aggressive looking.

I can't see your images for some reason... Your title caught my eye though, are you doing a demon dog? aka "Black Shuck"?

03 March 2009, 07:06 PM
Ravis - Thanks m8. The excess polis were removed. I went a bit overboard cause i missed modeling in max (yeah...i must be crazy). Not many references to show. I just use a few dog anatomy jpegs. I had this creature in my head for a while now and i feel confident enough to model it without a schetch (i can't really draw that good anyway). Mostly it's going to be a really big mean torn up hound...and by torn i mean exposed muscles and bones showing on various parts of the body

molynext - Yes, something like that:). Sorry about the image problem :(

zbrush progress ( (

the shapes are exagerated i know....i'm just drawing rough at the moment. I stil haven't touched the head, tail, abdomen and botom half of the legs

looks really cool so far, kind of like a pitbull on some serious steroids haha. can't wait to see what you do with the feet and head. The muscle structure in some places feels a little clumpy though, sometimes I don't believe that the muscles tug and pull at each other to make it move.

03 March 2009, 09:01 PM
Ghostesper cheers m8 :). Thanks for your comment. I'm just starting to finalize the muscles so it should look a lot better and more convincing when i'm done. Stick around and you shall see ;)

some progress ( (

finished roughing out most of the muscles and done a bit of the basic shape of the head. Also i started detailing the muscles on the front legs

03 March 2009, 03:15 AM
haha! I trust ya ;) I'm just finishing up my base mesh so your much farther along than I! Good update. Can't wait to see where you take this.

03 March 2009, 05:04 PM
thanks m8 ;) I checked out your thread and you have a pretty wicked character developing there ;)

i still have the lower legs and the head to detail (and enlarge the paws) the moment they're barely sketched ( ( (

the beast is getting some meat on him! Can't wait to see where this goes bud. rock on.

Cheers bro...thanks for the continued support

added some teeth...fiddly job, i wanted to make sure the teeth were accurate and that they bind together correctly and i used some dog teeth references. Canines are exagerated for obvious reasons :). I also started to detail the spine bones but atm it's only a rough sketch. Some big horns are going to grow from them pretty soon :). Still no update on the lower legs. ( (

cool WIP! i would take care tho to not to diverge in humanoid anatomy for this, like the pecks and the abs especially, check out a lion and wolf muscle structure and you'll see what i mean :) you may humanize it later on the process!

04 April 2009, 06:13 PM
lookin cool, he's got some chompers *nom nom nom*

04 April 2009, 12:09 PM
StefanoDubay you're probably right on that...i did try to follow some drawings of dog anatomy but the ab area was not that visible in them and i improvised a bit. Thanks for the reply ;) and also good luck with your entry.

Ghostesper glad you like it m8.

Here's some progress. I finaly realised that the muscles were looking way off after so many people have pointed that they look like shells and/or puzzle pieces and i restructured most of the anatomy to make the muscles seem functional. Still working on it...not quite there yet (

04 April 2009, 04:39 PM
update on the lower legs and claws. Getting ready to add the final non symmetrical detail layer ( ( ( (

04 April 2009, 04:49 PM
Man ! I really love the anatomy of your creature :)

Maybe you should add more armor pieces I think but for the moment this Demon looks really hard to fight with :D

04 April 2009, 08:10 PM
nice progress, I think you need to work out the muscle strands coming from the back leg to the foot, it looks awkward. But the rest is spot on! When you going to give him flesh eh?

04 April 2009, 10:31 AM
alexy - thank you for the comment...much appreciated. I think i'm gonna stai away from armor pieces with this one, i still have the original ideea in mind and hopefully i'll pull it off.
Ghostesper - thanks for the comment m8.....hopefully i'll get the chance to adress all of the problems in time...but i doubt it

Still so much more i would like to do with this guy but the deadline is closing in and i'm not sure if i'll be able to finish in time. Due to the many projects i have running at the moment i can't find as much time as i would have liked to work on this model. Also i reached abut 3 mil polis and if i subdivide it to the next level to add the final details my pc just can't handle it :( ( (

Hi. Great sculpting, the skeleton like face is amazing. I also like his tail, looking cool with all the thorns.

04 April 2009, 10:32 PM
lookin good bud, the horns are well placed. You going to have time to finish m8? I wanna seethe flesh!, I need to start thinking of A symetry on my model to make it more individualized and unique
