Let's get this started!
I've decided to go for a Demon Lord, so here are the first images:
Some messing around in PS... I prefer to do most of my concepting in 3D though, so this is just to get a general idea and test out some things:
Starting on the sculpt:
He doesn't have any of the standard weapons so I figured I might have him wear dual wield shields because these could work quite well for crushing his enemies (given they survive his breath of fire/darkness in the first place) and he will be able to connect them to one big shield in order to withstand massive frontal attacks: KLICK (http://frigi.designdevil.de/3D/DomWarIV/DWIV_wip_1.5.jpg)
I'm not too positive about the shields I got so far, so I made a couple of shapes to get this going:
The idea (thanks arrad) is to simply brake them in two parts as a result of a tough battle instead of dividing them as properly as I did so far. That would put some emphasis on the "rough" character trait. It could also be decorated with some trophies from each won battle to scare the s**t out of his opponents.
My personal favourite is the one in the lower right corner, so I'll give that one a shot now.

Nice start. I like the helmet and details on the top part of the body.
Although I will for sure work more on the overall proportion, legs arms lengh, which are much more important than the details.

just a note.. Demon Lords do not possess any human characteristics, its in the rules..
Currently your character has lots of human characteristics.. Pectoral, Deltoids, Belly, Triceps and even back muscles like human.. just make sure before you continue with further sculpting..

Yeah nice start, but I agree with namnocilis. To much human charactistics.

I gotta agree on the human charcteristics issue, I should have made that clear: This is mainly just a basis on which I'm going to build all the rest on. I like doing it this way to get a proper idea of the underlyings before going all fancy. (You can see first indications of that in the spikes on his back.)
Anyways this rule is not to be taken literally (quote from GA.org):
Does that mean no eyes, teeth, hands, feet, hair etc?
That's pretty harsh. Horses, dogs, dragons, fish, etc. posses a lot of human characteristics.
You can use all of those it just cant pass off as a human. Most be an ugly, not a vampire either. A demon.
Yako: Yeah, I wasn't quite sure which of the two forums I would choose but I finally decided to take this one because the color scheme and the logo fit better in my concept. It's always difficult to choose between such great communities, so sometimes little things as that have to be the tie-breaker.

well frigi.. i dont think ther is anything wrong wit ur design as per the rules.. i think the rule means u cant have too many human characteristics so as to not make him look too human.. but most animals have most of the muscles that humans have.. even u have the spiked thing on the back and the legs are hoofs.. and the head is completely different.. so i dont think it looks human in any sense.. so to be on the safer side its better to clarify like namnocilis and yakonusuke said.. best o'luck for the WAR fellow demon.. lol. :D

The last few days I tried out a lot of things but it turned out that I'm really not getting along with this concept anymore. It's a bit sad but for now this one is on hold.
I'm currently working on a new one which is gonna be a Norm Warlord, here's a first scetch of the face:
He's gonna be some sort of a rugby player mixed with elements of the good old knights:
A huge hammer shaped like a rugby ball, a rucking shield with some spikes, plate armor...
It's a bit difficult to put a rugby player in heavy armor as the rules demand it, so I'm still working on a concept for this. Thanks for watching and I'll keep you updated.

Sucks for the demon, cause I really liked it. But your new concept its starting to look badass as well.

Unfortunately I can't possibly get my entry done until the end of the competition (personal reasons and final exams at the same time as the deadline) but I will continue this as a portfolio piece.

Very cool, frigi! Maybe you could add some some seams to make it look less as it's like one piece. On the backside would be cool if you'd break the regularity with some designstuff or so.

You got me there dude, I shouldn't work that late at night... will be fixed in the next update.
Most likely I won't do much in the direction of ornaments or similar details on this glove because he will be holding his shield with this hand and thus most of it will be occluded anyway.
