This is probably going to change drastically...just getting warmed up.
I think i'm going to go for something more mystical, and a tequila drinking puppy running around somewhere... I'm with paperclip on that one:beer:

03 March 2009, 01:36 PM
some color...

03 March 2009, 02:00 PM
I think they're small because you're attaching them as thumbnails and not embedding them with [ img ] tags... Although I'm new too, so I could be wrong. ^^

03 March 2009, 02:21 PM
how do you do that?

03 March 2009, 02:35 PM
You need to upload them to a image hosting site like photobucket or imageshack.

03 March 2009, 08:23 PM
you guys rock...thanks for helping! :buttrock:

03 March 2009, 10:37 AM
Latest... :bounce:

03 March 2009, 11:09 AM
looks great. you're really fast!

03 March 2009, 11:34 AM
Just one curious question
If it is a game, this energy circle "thingy" on a place where heart should be, looks like a first target I would aim for. So what would happen if he gets hit there? :D

03 March 2009, 11:51 AM
hahahahahahaaaa....that was good...sorry I couldn't stop laughing...and then when I saw your kill the wizard, you got into a fit.Great way to start the day.
Well let's think of something...let me see... basically his body produces huge amounts of raw energy right, like all consuming, and if he didnt have the have a cultivator on his back it would consume him to :buttrock:
so thats why his always flying around making daemon, barbecue he needs to get rid of this energy consistently.
So back to the bullet, it would probably get consumed, recicled and then shot back in a gush of raw power, and when it comes to little deamons, well darkness dosent work so well around light
in any case you do have a point!

03 March 2009, 12:11 PM
just trying this link thing out. sorry

03 March 2009, 03:00 PM
I love that his hair seems to be made of energy. I definitely have the same problem with that one energy circle on his chest, though -- it'd be the first place I'd aim, too. >>

03 March 2009, 10:45 AM
here's the face. I painted it originally in normal skin color, but im not sure what looks better.
By this weekend I should have 3 new sketches of completely new characters to chose if you want to drop by and give any C&C it would be great! :bounce:
thanks guys...and yeah it is somewhat of a bullseye...poor dude!

03 March 2009, 12:13 PM
I don't know why, but I'm drawn to the one with skin color more. Maybe because the other one is just... too green/blue, if you know what I mean. It's nice to have that small burst of another color in there.

03 March 2009, 01:13 AM
Thanks inqy, your right. The natural skin color gives the whole thing some variety. Iíll be posting the last details tomorrow, and the light on Friday. After that Iíll start posting sketches for a new character.
Thanks for your feedback, take care!

03 March 2009, 10:48 AM
HI there! Well Iím almost done, some final details for tomorrow and thatís it. This isnít what Iím going to use, but I really needed some practice since this is my second cg piece I ever done, and what Iím planning on doing will go way over my head.
So if you have any technical C&Cs on my coloring or anything it would be great. Iím a real new guyÖso anything you have to say will be a big help. Thanks!
Big hug to all and keep up that incredible workÖitís a big inspiration.

03 March 2009, 10:40 AM
HI there! Well Iím done.
So if you have any technical C&Cs on my coloring or anything it would be great. Iím a real new guyÖso anything you have to say will be a big help. Thanks!
I'll start posting sketches after Sunday...see you then, and take it easy on the weekend...or no work will get done, well, if you can pull it off, have a blast!

03 March 2009, 11:06 AM
this is the direction things are going. I was going to work on it more, but i thought it would be better to get as many C&Cs in the developig process as possible. thanks for looking.
see you tomorrow.

03 March 2009, 11:49 AM
HI there! Well Iím done.
So if you have any technical C&Cs on my coloring or anything it would be great. Iím a real new guyÖso anything you have to say will be a big help. Thanks!

The main thing I see is that it's really hard in your picture to figure where the light is coming from. You should try to define a more directional lighting, with casted shadows to add some depth and volume to your artwork.
even if you have multiple light sources, try to have a main one, and use the other ones to enhance some areas.

the new design seems to have more potential by the way even though it's still in the rough phase.

03 March 2009, 11:18 AM
aelwine: thanks! I was having that problem when coloring wasnít sure what light source I should emphasize on, so I guess I just thru in light everywhere. What light source should I have used? The one from the main turban?
I donít have a formal art education, I just started taking things more seriously last year, so I have a lot to learn, if you want to stick around and throw in some C&Cs whenever you have time it would be great, thanks again!

03 March 2009, 05:44 PM
Ok, I took some time to make a quick overpaint that might help you, I hope you won't mind.

It's by no means perfect and a lot of people would probably come with different and better way of doing it, but here it is :

btw to check your lighting, I encourage you to check the values by turning your illustration to B&W, like what I did on the right side, it helps see the values more clearly, without the colors getting in the way.
on a global scale what I did was reduce the area of effect of all your sources of light, meaning that now you've real zones of darkness, like under the armpits, on the sides of the torso, the upper part of the legs, etc.

Hope it helps, good luck with the rest of the war :)

03 March 2009, 10:50 PM
Thanks bro! I really appreciate you taking the time. What you sent was really helpful and I will make good use of it. Now Iím just using bw for sketches and it helps a lot, I hope I can return the favor some day. Iíll drop over at your place and ad my 2 cents, once you put on your new workÖif itís worth anything.
Well big hug man and thank s again.

03 March 2009, 11:46 PM
Hey Daniel,

Nice sketches and concepts ! :D Like your last update, that character looks really cool :D Good luck ! and looking forward for more updates! Cheers!! (wit tequila! :D)

03 March 2009, 12:32 PM
Fernando: Hey thanks manÖTomorrow Iíll post the legs, and on Tuesday Iíll present the character in with different body structures or mass distribution or something like that. Pls drop by I desperately need so heavy duty C&Cs.
And keep it up with whatever it is your onÖha! Your stuff is looking insaneÖlove it.
Cuidate loco, un abrazo de ArgentinaÖ

03 March 2009, 10:32 AM
Hi there! Well got some work done finally. Before jumping into clothes, weapons, armor and such, I want to pay special attention to his anatomy. I donít want him to just look like any freak beast. Iím looking for harmony and balance combined with a powerful design, that-s why I need your helpÖany C&Cs are of precious value. Heís and old wizard who gets possessed by the spirits of a tiger, bear, and dragon when hi enters combat. Hope to hear from you.
Have a great dayÖor night
"The Commander stands for the virtues of wisdom,
sincerely, benevolence, courage and strictness."

04 April 2009, 02:23 PM
Looking cool. I think he's looking a little too much like iron man though...

04 April 2009, 09:38 PM
Sepulverture: actually I've never seen the film... but I got that from several people. I'm working on a new character, I put it up on the first post of this thread and the last one. If you have any thoughts it would be great...thanks bro, and have a good one. your stuff is looking good.

04 April 2009, 01:29 AM
Hey Daniel,

Like a lot the new direction of your concept, the last sketches looks really cool! I think you can make a big torso and really huge arms, a bit on "perezoso" style with big claws, and stance a bit like a gorila. Here some references images:

Maybe you can try a some strange armor for the character, like a turtle shell or a big crab shell :D Only some odd and silly ideas :D All the best and waiting for more updates! Cheers my friend!!

(Me gusta mucho el nuevo concepto, simplemente sueltate y dale vuelo a la imaginaciůn, tenťs el talento y la habilidad :D)

04 April 2009, 10:38 AM
Hey there Hermano!
I get up at 4:45am everyday to play some DW, before I go to work, and I saw your post, so that was and extra moral boost, and I finished what I was going to post maŮana, so this one is for you FerÖand thanks again. This guy is actually like an old human wizard that transforms when he enters combat. SO I want to maintain strong human features and muscle structure and at the same time make him different looking Öbut with harmony. Tell me what you think I varied in the different poses a little to play around with the design. Hope you like it pal  .

04 April 2009, 03:27 PM
I like this last concept, good luck Daniel!

04 April 2009, 02:38 PM
Love the direction you're taking with this new character. It's like... tigersaraus rex or something. Good stuff...

As for the human character. I think the design overall isn't bad, it's a little sleek and too well armored... if that makes sense.

A question is raised here though, what class of norm is he? Let us know his background so we can help nudge him in a definite direction.

I'd like to see a full background of this character, and then lets see what we can see.

04 April 2009, 10:11 PM
Maxter: thanks man, Iíll be posting more on Tuesday, feel free to drop by and help me push to the limit.

Sepulverture: hey thanks for dropping by, and all that good advice. Iíll be posting the story line on my character on Monday, on Tuesday I should have a full body action shot with all the props and big guns so stay tuned, and as usual I appreciate all the help I can get, thanks bro!
Hope you all had a great weekend

04 April 2009, 05:05 PM
I like the black arm one, the sauropod looks good but too benevolant, needs to be more raw.

04 April 2009, 12:20 AM
Robert: thanks for dropping by. I agree with you all the way, and I think the design is stronger in that one as well with longer arms and such. He is a kind wizard and loves walking alone in the woods communing with the spirit in the wind, but his character is very explosive, especially when a little daemon snatches his lunch bag.
Take care bro, your stuff is looking crazy, keep it up!

04 April 2009, 07:45 PM
Hey Daniel,

Like a lot the profile sketch, the big arms look really great and the expression of the character is really cool!! Great work! and waiting for more updates!! Cheers!!

04 April 2009, 10:38 AM
Fer: Hey man, nice of you to drop by, I really donít know how you manage to be so active on everyoneís threads and stay on top of your work, and have your siesta and your tequila andÖI really try but its just impossible. Anyhow here is a tentative shot of our guy in pure action. This is just the anatomy study, if you all think it looks together Ill start working with the props and the rockín roll.

04 April 2009, 10:41 AM
Anatomy study and action shot, if you think it looks good Iíll start working on the props and big guns, all help and comments are of huge value to me so please donít hesitate.
changes to the leg..

04 April 2009, 12:17 AM
nice stuff, i like the hard edged plane cuts there.. watch out for a good hybridation between the anatomy of a man and the tiger, dont leave it only to the arms and head.. BTW what happened with the tech soldier?

04 April 2009, 03:31 AM
Excellente, un hermano argentino en CGS! I don't know how I've missed this entry...

Anyway, you're doing a good job and the anatomy studies are coming along very well. If I might make a suggestion, I didn't realize this was meant to be a metamorph until I read the description, so it may be a good idea to show a transition between the two forms, or some other element to aid the storytelling. For instance, after the transformation the human form could appear as a glowing aura around the beast.... dunno, guess you can find better ways to get the idea across.

I'll definetly will be keeping an eye on this thread.
Mucha suerte Daniel, que aprendas mucho y a las ůrdenes! :arteest:

04 April 2009, 10:49 AM
Stefano: Thank you for passing by, I wasnít getting a lot of help, and if it wouldnít be for those who have, I donít know where Iíd be so thanks to all!
I didnít really get what you saidÖyou think I need more fusion? I was feeling all happy with myself, looks like I need to push it harder. So far Iíve studied merging a grizzly bear, lion, tiger, wolf, reptilish (havenít started working on the texture on the skin), and human. I do want there to be a lot of harmony. I want the final illustration to have a warm renascent feel to it, with a modern magical flavor. I any case if you have some time to help me understand a little better what you felt, it would be a big favor I would appreciate. Tks again hermano (brother)!

04 April 2009, 10:59 AM
Gerardo: q buena onda viejo, gracias por pegarte una vuelta. Somos pocos y tenemos q hacer quedar bien and los sudacasÖja!
I wanted this to be a surprise, but last night there was a drastic shift in the story line, and now this dude is the pet of a 10 year old girlÖoh!
Sheís an orphan that was adopted by an old wizard, when he died she received the power of her master and the ability to invoke his spirit. Iím exited about the ideaÖdose it break any rules? Big hug friend, your stuff is kicking ass, keep it bad.

04 April 2009, 11:27 AM
Hey Daniel, the last sketch is really good, I like the upper body and it's composition, very dynamic. There are two things that bothers me:
1. There is this impression that his legs are a bit small for him. (The feet is ok)
2. Something with the pose and composition of the lower body. Perhaps it's because his lower body is somewhat unnaturaly bent backwards? hmmm... hard to explain... my english isn't so good XD

If i were you i would also add some more things to this creature. Perhaps horns on his head, fur on his back, add some bracelets + tattoos. These things would make him look a bit more powerful and menacing. and also would give this creature some more character. And if you are going for that menacing expression then perhaps change your creatures eyes into white perhaps even glowy tone. But thats just a thought. :D make of it what U wish, i hope it gives u some ideas to play with.

Keep up the good work and good luck mate!

04 April 2009, 12:53 PM
Armand : Wow! So much feed back in little time, this is a prayer come true, thank you!
About his legs, I think your right, maybe I can make them look stronger, I don-t want to make them bigger because it would weaken the design (everything would look big), Ill keeping working on it then.
The long torso was to give him that bend to add to the dramatic pose, dose it look wrong? I-ll try and play with it. About the other stuff (I call it the hot sauce or rockín roll), Iíll start adding it once there is harmony in the body (itís a temptation to jump into the fun stuff). I like your ideas and was planing on doing some of the ones you mentioned. I'll use tiger stripes to give the effect of tribal tattoos, his arms and legs will have dragon skin for armor, and heíll have 3 crystals jutting out of his jest. But in general I want to keep it simple. Once again thank you for your useful council, Iíll get to work and may the Divine power assist you in your work, itís looking wield! :buttrock:

04 April 2009, 02:25 AM
Hey Daniel. Things are comin along here. Good job. Another crit on the legs, though. If he was jumping in the air, his feet would be extended up, flowing in the same direction as his legs, and not bent toward the ankle like they are now. This might make the legs look a little better. The legs may be a bit too bent underneath him too, but see how it looks if you change the feet and I guess judge from there.

04 April 2009, 03:54 AM
Hola Daniel, I like that new story way better . As far as I know, it would be ok with the rules, but I think you would have to make the girl the main character (clericon, invoker?) and this guy her pet. I'm not too sure if you can do it the other way round.....
Just remember to include them both in you modeling sheet.

Arriba el talento sudaca!

04 April 2009, 10:50 AM
Raz: thanks for taking your time and taking a look. Your right about the legs, they just look wrong, Iím a total armature trying to capture action so yeah, Iíll have to work on it. I want him to look like his coming down for the kill, so the back foot is flowing with the leg and the front one is getting ready to come down. That was the idea anyhow. Iím not going to get to stuck on it because I donít even know if Iíll use this imageÖno se. But thanks and stick around I need all the help I can get, and I wish I would have gone to art school, maybe you can teach me a thing or 2, big hug bro.

Gerardo: Viva! Che escuchame, acŠ te paso un poco de reference para q te mates de la risa. :D
Yeah I think Iím going to settle for a pet, donít know. Heís suppose to be the sprit of her dead master and sheís invoking him to fight for her. I guess that could count as a pet?!? Anyhow keep it up brother, you chick is looking so hot  .

04 April 2009, 07:22 AM
hey daniel!, is that you in those reference shots? :D i agree with the comment on the foot there, maybe you can set it up in a more extreme way like compressing a little more and plated on the wall and the left one coming down relaxed.. i hope you figure out what you are going to do but i like the over all form of the character.

ill check out later what you come up with, keep it up man

04 April 2009, 10:45 AM
Hey Daniel, yes it was about time to visit your thread, after your bunch of feedback, sorry :)
Actually I have been watching your steps a few times, but I coudn't support you with feedback for that beast cause it seems to be finished like it is. You know, its kind of a werewolf or so in traditional way, and it's good how it is, but for the challenge I would wish some features which aren't consolidated in the mind of the viewer yet as much as a werewolf. Give us some things to look at we didn't know in this context or we didn't know at all. Maybe you could add some patterns to his body, or hair, or cover parts with fabrics with interesting patterns on them... what ever you will make, try to go further then just a beast that is reduced to muscles and claws.

I stay tuned! :)

04 April 2009, 10:49 PM
Hello there :)

I agree that this creature very easy could be a werewolf. It's not a problem, but I think, it could be more interesting to see your own unique version of this beast. I think a more extreme look could help on that. yakonusuke has a good suggestion on that, I think. I can see that in some areas, the skin already looks a bit rough and chaotic. You can build on that.

04 April 2009, 11:19 PM
Sergio: que mas man, gracias por pasarte una vuelta! Yeah my leg needs a lot of work so Iíll be working on some thumbnails to find a good pose, or maybe just use this one with more work, se how much time I have, Iím falling behind. And keep up the good work over there, itís looking good  yeah thats me :D

yakonusuke: hey bro, you didnít tell me what your friends call you. Anyhow thanks for dropping by, and no problem, I know youíve got your stuff but I also know I need helpÖha! :D Iím new here so just trying to make new friends and get to know people.
You mentioned a real good point, I donít give a lot of space for participation. As I said Iím new, this would be my third completed cg piece and I'm real slow so I donít have time to give so many options like you do, so sad but I think Iíll be up to the task next time. Well hereís what Iíve got so far, probably will leave it simple and not to many props, I spent 5 hours working on fur, designs and I didnít like it so... thatís that  . This would be a tentative pose for the illustration, what do you think? Big hug chau amigo. your stuff is taking a great turn, you've got the stuff  .

04 April 2009, 12:03 AM
Hola Daniel, pasaba para ver en quť andabas. Since the beginning you've been asking for advice and I think your work has room for improvement, I'll try to give you some tips from what little experince I have. :)

First, when one is starting out, its easy to get carried away with the excitement and try to get everything done in your first sketch: general anatomy, character design, value study, color study, persepective, pose, detail, feel, and so forth. That's not the best way to go when one has little experince, cause it's too overwhelming (sabťs lo que dicen, el que mucho abarca poco aprieta) and the quality of your work drops.

So my advice would be: start easy, with just line drawings of your characters in a neutral pose, and using a simple angle (side, front), so that you don't have to worry about perspective. On that base, you can start to build up the design, and its like you are teaching yourself how to draw the character. Once you feel confident about drawing it from simple angles, then go on to perspective, and once you've done that you can start worring about the pose and feeling. I'm not trying to critisize your pose studies, which were good, but i think it's too early for them.
It's definetly more laborious and a bit boring to do all these steps, but taking babysteps is a sure way to improvement. So try to pace yoursef and get back to the basics!

Hope I wasnīt too harsh. Best of luck my friend!

04 April 2009, 01:16 AM
nice,i do like the photo-taking's idea
it inspire me to do some wild idea to inject to my concept

04 April 2009, 02:12 AM
Hey Daniel,

Like a lot your new direction on the concept, I think that have great potential :D Maybe you need to explore a bit more the design for Florence, only a comment :) but the idea is really great :D Cheers

04 April 2009, 02:31 AM
I think you can try to put more contrast between the little girl and the monster, size, textrue action and so on. And the girl looks a little normal.Keep doing, you have made great changes~

04 April 2009, 10:03 AM
Hey Daniel, yes its Jakob how my friends call me. ; ) I've heard it's Santiago or Tiago in spanish...

I agree with GaeasHerald, that you would benefit if you keep the characters simpel in the
designstage. No perspective, simpel shading and so on... just like he depicted it.

But I think this update goes in the right direction! I like the idea of the child summoning that beast. Would be also cool what Ferx discribes in the encoded spanish part :D With the transforming and the same necklace on the girls neck. Try to get both together with some
design similaritys. And the girl needs more stuff on her! Arms and legs are to empty I think.

You're doing great! Get some inspration for the clothes and accessoires and this concept will rock!

04 April 2009, 10:50 AM
I feel so suported by so many amigos  (touching moment...sorry about that)
I spent all day yesterday at work think about everything you all have been telling me, your tips, counsel and advice, I was trying to figure out how to apply it and keep harmony in the character. Anyhow all your help has been a driving force and has helped me reach higher.

If you like what you see itís really thanks to all your help  , and the Devine anointing that comes to all who seek it. Thanks again and Iíll write to those I havenít answered when I come back from work. Thanks again big hug to all the amigos! And now that the tequila man paid a visit we can all have a round, adentro!

04 April 2009, 02:57 PM
WOw daniel, de que me perdi? lol!

i love how the beast is coming out, also the summoner but the beast really catches my attention the most :bounce:

no puedo esperar a veer el layout principal de la imagen final

04 April 2009, 03:12 PM
Very cool dude! Love how the little girl has a huge creature do her bidding! Wonderful contrast! Keep it up! Can't wait to see more!

04 April 2009, 05:03 PM
Martin: Que mas (whats up) Martin! Thanks for taking a look, it-s real cool to get all this support and positive pressure to push. Hope you like the new concept, tried to implement your tips and ideas. Big hug man, and get ready for the show down, my little girls has got some wired powers, sheís a little off her rocker  so watch out :D

Gerardo: Sos un Ūdolo Ger! That was some kick ass advise :buttrock: and just what i needed to hear, you have no idea how much it helped me :arteest: . I was really frustrated and yeah just stuck :banghead: , so when I got home yesterday I slapped on some underoath and started from scratch, and Iím quit exited about the results. This whole process is totally new to me, I just got into cg at the end of last year, and never studied art so I feel a little lost sometimes  .
So anyhow itís great to know I can count on you telling what I need to hear, I think the progress made I thanks to you guys so if we ever meet up, the cold one is on me  , big hug man.

04 April 2009, 05:09 PM
Far better ! The beast is really flashing now.
The child's anatomy isn't that good, but I guess you'll fix it in the conceptsheet /and/or/ final image!

04 April 2009, 12:14 AM
kobempire1985: oh yeah! Is a lot of fun, you can really get into the action and the reference is also a big help. Iím starting to tap into using reference to help boost your ideas and itís helped a lot. Have a good one amigo and thanks for dropping by.

fernando: que mas buey, ya te estaba extraŮando por estos lados, faltaba ese toque te locura sana  Öbueno no seÖja! Thanks for all those good ideas, I think iím going to finish the molding sheets and then figure out the story line depending on what everything looks like by the time Iím done. Iím a week late according to my schedule so I need to get to it,l but Florence is going to undergo so serious changes (I had a vision looking at my gold fish today, so get ready). And about the pet, I was thinking the spirit of her dead wizard master can posses her mountain cat when they get into combat, or something. Y sit us ideas van a siepre ser boludas, y que queres, con lo que andas tomando, ja! :D

Barry Xu: thank for droping a note itís always real helpful, and thanks to you and the others Florence will undergo some drastic changes. I want to capture simplicity, power in weakness, and majesty but without to many props so it will be a challenge. Iíll need all the help I can get so pls stay tuned. Iíll trop by your place soon, your stuff is looking insane, I donít know what the hell it is but I like it. See ya.

Jakob: can I call you Jak? I meet a lot of Germans that come over here for their studies and most speak surprisingly good Spanish (with the accent from spain). So my best guess theyíll be no fooling you when it comes our encoded, secret Latino intelligence :D , ha!
Anyhow Iím quit happy with the beast, I need to move on and fast so I probably wont change it much from my last post, and as soon as I done with his molding Iíll move on to working with the child invoker. Iíll really a appreciate your help on that so pleas stay tuned, and thank you for all your activity its morally boosting and your tips are always a big help  .
Best to you Jak and donít keep us waiting, we want to see more, itís looking great.

SERGIO: que tal maquina! :wavey: Che que Buena Honda, gracias por el apoyo. Thanks to you all thing are starting to roll. take care, and all the best with that insane creature of yours, I love it.

Matthew: you beat me to it, I was hoping to pass by your place first, really great work, and I look forward to rallying by your side to face the demon horde, thereís lots of them and some real ugly ones 2 by the way so get ready! I took a look at your blog and saw some great stuff  , so the same goes for you, I cant wait to see more, weíll keep in touch, big hug amigo.

04 April 2009, 03:11 PM
This is cool, I love the creature and the little girl controling him. Very inspiring.

Can't wait to see the final piece.

04 April 2009, 07:03 PM
I love the direction you're going with this one!~Gonna keep an I on this wonderful concept, keep updating!

04 April 2009, 07:45 PM
Hey Daniel,

You are working really hard, great!! :D

The beast are comming nicely, like a lot the glowing parts, cool!! The design is really great. Like the additions for Florence, maybe you need to rise the shoulders and arms a bit, look a bit lower on the body :) A key hole in her forehead?? Very original idea, I liked!! Again, cool work!! Cheers my friend!!

04 April 2009, 11:28 PM
The party man himself  , what{s up tequila drinking buddy  , I think your a bad influence on me every time I see that Little green face I feel like lying down in some lost beach over at Cancun sipping a margarita and getting a massage or something  . And on top of that you want me to quit mateÖhahahaaaa! :D :D :D Itís the only thing keeping me alive man, I get up at 4:30 am . Iíll have the tequila once the war is over, you and Gerardo can go on a chill without me. For now Iím being able to put in 2 hours a day before work and at night Iím with my little girl, Iíll see if it okay with here to put in some time at night or I wont make it, so yeah Iím trying to work as hard as possible and tomorrow there should be some interesting updates so stay tuned friend. The little girl will be undergoing so extreme changes, glade you like so far, but Iíll try and push the idea off the cliffÖha! Iím addicted.
Che que Buena Honda poder hablar tanto en espaŮol, hay un monto de latinos, tenemos q hacer quedar bien a los sudacas, viva cabrones!!! :buttrock:

04 April 2009, 11:30 PM
Paul: thanks man, hope you like the new stuff tomorrow, and your stuff is also looking great, totally wicked, see ya amigo :D

04 April 2009, 02:17 AM
here is some more progres on my invokers pet.
more maŮana, i need some sleep. :D

04 April 2009, 10:38 AM
had an early start and as I promised here is what iv done to implement some of you coments about the invoker hope you like it. all C&Cs are needed and welcome...hit me! :arteest:

04 April 2009, 11:33 PM
i'm a bit lost now... how the girl integrates with the tiger guy? maybe you wrote it already in case forgiver my laziness :) i'll be forgiven by a mojito with mint from my garden i guess... :D

BTW io love keyholes watch out for its sexual component tho :D

04 April 2009, 11:50 PM
is that you in the pic? that hair is radical man. maybe I can put mine an will start the freak show, sound like a plan? and I'll take you up on the thing you've got growing in your garden and anything ells you got there. :buttrock:
Look on the 4th trade you can see the drain storming process (that actually makes it sound good, it was more like a cosmic fart). Anyhow she-s the invoker, the beast is the pet. and about the sexual content, I was a bit concerned about the beasts tail-weapon-reproductive organ thing :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: , I must say I got a little caryed away with the size, but that can be our secret...ha! all the best bro...
thanks for dropping by

04 April 2009, 12:32 AM
Sop, it's tequila versus mate right? I have to make a little confesion, I don't really like mate :argh: :hmm: :surprised I know, that not very uruguayan of me, but it's the inconvenient truth. I guess we could come up with some odd tequila-mate shots and call them "matequila", what do you guys think? Don't know how those two might mix, but it's definetly innovative.

OK, back to sth more serious, you're showing us amazing progress Daniel. These two lastest sketches are a massive improvement. Two small comments on them: the werewolf dude has a lot of low frecuency detail, i mean the texture on his arms and legs have about the same size as his facial features. Maybe it would be better to play around with the size and distribution of the textural elements and leave the more complex details/structures to the places were you want to call atention to, the focal parts. That will make him easier to read.

About Florence, the keyhole in her forehead was very weird, but I actually love it, I also like the ethnicity variation. I don't think you should add much more detail to her, cause you don't want to clutter you image too much.

I repeat, your progress is stunning. Keep it up, and give matequila a try!

04 April 2009, 01:18 AM
Gerardo: hey bro good to see you around, I was hoping you would take a couple days off and hag out with all tGhe "good" people (and yes even our friends with drinking problems    ). Actually I drink terere (Ice juice with yerba mate, from the north of argentina and paraguay, for anyone reading thisÖ) with a touch of vodka like dr lemon, or with a vermouth and lemon and orange and a lot of ice. We will try tequila and we'll settle the matter. we must unit the sudaca brotherhood under one flag matequila-erere. If it works I-ll pass on the killer recipe and a food note on the after effects (maybe we can put some coca leaves in the yerba) :buttrock: .
Actually I started making progress after all that good advice  , as I said I owe you one, and I get you on the detail thing, really good advice your right. I-m trying to learn as much about the texture before going into the actual final, see what I like and what I donít, I think I over did. :hmm: I need to get to work catch you soon. y preparate para el gran partido, ya se viene!

04 April 2009, 01:29 AM
i see now... about the child thing there was a concept on the general page with a child thing with some sort of under the skin lit things showing through with scattering, check it out! anyway your conc is powerful a weak looking brat holding the true power of the beast and yeah tht's me on the pic (i'm putting on another NOW)\

04 April 2009, 09:03 PM
Florence looks beautiful; btw. I like your latest concept, the pet looks fierce indeed. The last pet concept had a cool pose that would be awesome with your new Pet concept. Is this the final concept for the pet? Looks like you hit your mark.

04 April 2009, 09:24 PM
Jacques: thanks you for passing by, and your encouragement, itís a good thing you like it because I need to rap things up, and start working on the final illustration, I have vary little experience with cg painting, and I want it to have the feel of a pro so that will be a huge challenge, way over my head. BTW I cant wait to see more of your stuff I still cant really figure your guy out, but it looks nasty, keep it up!

04 April 2009, 10:27 AM
I think the girl looks great. It might be tricky retaining her character for the final piece but if you manage it, it'll look good. The pet I like too, although its face appears a bit cartoony. Nice work, keep it up.

04 April 2009, 10:29 AM
Comrades in arms of warfare, I salute you!
Here is some of my progress, some of you are so ahead with your work, it like a wip, and with each slash it tells me, faster, fasterÖ faster, so Iím really going for it, hope to make it on time. But even if I donít its been so much fun, making new friends and all.
About the invoker, I put some options (wish I had time for more), and call it what you want, but I want to cause a weird reaction in the viewer of, emotion, compassion, wanting to protect her, but at the same time an odd attraction, because sheís young but thereís a maturity about her that draws you or something. Well, all comments are more than welcome as always! Big hug to all  , and keep the war machine raging. :buttrock:

04 April 2009, 10:47 AM
BaronImpossible: Hey Simon, thanks for dropping by  . I was a little concerned about the invoker as well, I really want to capture her expression, I want her to evoke a strong feeling in the viewer, but she is smaller than the beast, so Iím going to need help for the final illustration (if you have time to drop by it would be great). I also agree about the beast, will it be a problem if in the final comp his face is more real than in the molding sheet? Anyhow thanks once again, your work has been a big inspiration and somewhat of a touch stone for the quality of my own, I appreciate your style and hope to emulate that painterly-epic look in my piece :arteest: , all the best bro.

04 April 2009, 10:54 AM
StefanoDubay: que mas Stef, what girl are you talking about? Somebody beat me to it last year, god dam! Well maybe I can merge her with your guy and come up with something real creepy, what do you think? Actually I already know. Oh and my wife sends her complements on your hairÖ(I think Iíll have to do the same to not loose her interestÖpuckÖ.hahahaha!) have a good one bro

04 April 2009, 07:06 PM
hey man, I like the latest update on the invoker head, good progress you made on her so far, 1 quick thing tho, I see you post a ton on the summary thread, I am pretty sure that thread is there for 1 post or maybe 2 if you had a drastic change of the such so people can browse and go to the threads to make comments. On the last page I see you posted a few times, once or twice is enough for people to gain the interest and come over to comment that way other people on the forums work does not get lost in the thread. I really am not trying to come off as a jerk and such just voicing my opinion thats all. Good luck with your character and her pet in the rest of the contest!

04 April 2009, 07:16 PM
Gregory J Strangis: Hi there, yeah your so right, Iím sorry I guess I got taken away by the emotion and thrill of it all, I guess itís a little typical when something is new for you. So point taken, thanks you for mentioning it and I try keeping my over enthusiastic attitude under check. All the best bro!

04 April 2009, 05:34 AM
Hey Daniel,

Really cool updates my friend. Like a lot the option B for Florence, really great expression on her :D The key hole is a very original touch ! Hope to see some sketches with the Florence "B" concept. Like the new realistic direction of your concept and agree with Simon, the faces for the pet looks a bit cartoony and not match with florence design (Cartoon style is out of law, only for wacky pencil sharpeners like me hahahahaha :D) Again, cool work ! Cheers!!
(Toda una mina la Florencia "B", tiene mucho potencial para un excelente concepto, a darle duro que queda poco tiempo :))

04 April 2009, 01:18 PM
Fer: you asked for you got it amigo, thanks again for drooping by and leaving all that buena honda. did you read about the tere-tequila we're making with Gerardo, we decided we needed to find the drink of unit, ha. well here you have some options friend let me know what you think, and as always your jovial spirit is always a source of inspiration. A big hug and keep it up (maybe your guy can have a mate in one hand and a tube in the other puring that weird stuff hes brewing)

04 April 2009, 01:19 PM
here are to options, pleas let me know what you think because I cant wait for long, again I'm interested in what you think  , thank you, all the best!

04 April 2009, 01:55 PM
Hola Daniel,

Very nice stuff. You have a lot of good sketches here.:)
I like the option B Body and face.
Keep it up:beer:

04 April 2009, 03:00 PM
Looking good mate!

I like option A from the face sheets the best.

To answer your question, the bot is only semi automated, has targeting AI but requires a verbal command to pull the trigger, and responds only to clericon units with a matching voice print:)

04 April 2009, 03:19 PM
Great progress Daniel, it's getting better with every step!
The new design on the girl is pretty cool. I would stick to option A , cuz B is to wild and turbolent in my opinion. She is a nice contrast to the beast.
It's very original what you came up with in the last updates, I thiink! Keep it up! And don't get lost in the rendering as on the beast, try to keep it simple and focus on the design .... but maybe I should do it myself before I recommend it to others :D

(p.s.: Jak, Jake, Jack,... It doesn't really matter ;D)

04 April 2009, 01:32 AM
Hola Daniel, your painting skills are evolving rapidly. If you dont mind, I have a few suggestions for you...

First, I think that the design of Florence is good and you may even consider using her as the only character in your entry. She has the mystery and mysticism necesary to stand on her own without the need of a pet.

If, however, you want to keep the pet, there are a few thing you should keep in mind.
I think the best part of having these two characters in one piece is that you can portray an interesting contrast between a sweet little girl and a fierce werewolf-like beast. In such case, i'd think that keeping Florence simple would be wise, maybe just a plain white robe, so that all the attention goes to her face and emotion.

As I've told you before, I love the keywhole in her head as a design element, but storywise it may be confusing if she was holding the keys to her own brain (:curious:?). Putting the keyhole on the beast, on the other hand, would be a solid storytelling devise, cause it tells the viewer who is master and who is servant. In that case, the key would act as a magical summoning "weapon".

Finally, if you decide the keep both characters, it would be interesting to play with the idea that Florence is a sweet and inocent child capable of amazing summoning powers. With that in mind, it probably would be best to steer clear from any hint of sexuality in her and try to make her look inocent and pure (hmmm, mostrando menos carne che).

These are only just suggestions, it's completely up to you to make the choices that best match the idea on your head. Best of luck and keep it coming!

04 April 2009, 04:00 AM
Damn dainel! your creatures are coming along nicely.

but i do agree with gerardo that its best to stay away from making her to sexual looking if what you want to portrait is youth and innocence :D if she was a little taller i'd say she was hot

*gets carried away by the FBI*

04 April 2009, 05:09 PM
Iban: thanks for dropping by, and for the support  . I think Iíll go for face you like so thanks for everything and the best to you in the rest of the comp, keep it up.

Nicolas: hey there friend, thanks for the visit, and explanation, I feel peace after your details, your stuff is looking real good, see you around. :D

Jack: or, el loco Jack :buttrock: . Thatís what Iím going to go with, I hop Iím the first but wouldnít be surprised if Iím not, I really appreciate you opinion and the support ever since your first visit :D . Just looking at your work I can imagine the little time you have so I value the time you take. I feel the progress on the design is in big part thanks to you guys who have made me push and now that I got the hag of it, I donít what to stopÖha! And the rendering is all your fault as well, when I saw your work I was like god Iíve got to get my act together. Anyhow all the best man, Iíll have the mold sheet ready tomorrow and Iíll appreciate your counsel regarding 2 questions Iím going to have. Keep it up amigaso, see you soon

04 April 2009, 05:54 PM
Florence and Mizgrif:
the story
She was found dying, by a wizard, after her mom tried to save her from a wave of child slaughter that demons were caring out to avoid the prophesy of the child prophet being fulfilled. The wizard raised and thought her all he could before his death. Her master gave her 2 gifts before passing on to the unseen world, the first was a key that was given to him for safe keeping by messengers of light, he told her to place it in the gash she had on her forehead ever since birth, the second was a mountain cat (Mixgrif). He would be the one to protect her now.
Florence had the gift of song, and after placing the key in her forehead for the first time, a song came to her, each note, every melody and in every word the power of creation was unlocked and a portion of its majesty granted to her. First it was the wind, then as her songs became more beautiful a new key appeared, one that unlocked the rage of fire, and now she has been given the knowledge to summon light and static energy in the form of lighting. This force is so great that it would rip her apart, but she noticed every time she sang her pet would grow and form large dragon like scabs on his skin, his eyes would glow with the might of his old master, then she knew he would be the one to release the full wrath of nature on the demon horde.

04 April 2009, 06:18 PM
Gerardo: MAQUINA! I was missing your counsel, I start to feel a little lost, and I was like ďche espero q aparesca el man, proque sino no se pa donde aranco®. As always a big help and Iíve had your comments floating around my head all day. I just donít know what to do, I posted the story to see if you could help me with that, or if it doesnít make sense. Dose the key thing work like that? About her sensuality, hmmmÖ well I wanted to cause mixed feelings in the viewer, and not make what they perceive from her not so black or white. I did want to portray somewhat of a virgin purity, facing a world of darkness, perversion and death. If sheís to small it think she would seem to unintelligent or unconscious of her surrounding, no se, what to you think? Iíll be posting the mold sheet with both characters and ask two main questions. 1 if I should us the pet, 2 if I should make her more child like. Iíll see what people thing and if nothing ells Iíll change it because I trust your judgment (and you can share the success or failureÖhahaha! siepre unidos). Youíre the best man, the time youíve taken to help me out is no small thing for me, all the best bro.
PS: she hablando de carne, quien me puso la idea en la cabeza? Haja, queres divertirte solo, je, bueno esta bien , dťjamelo pensar, pero posta, si te parece lo cambiamos, solo quiero que veas a los dos personajes juntos, maŮana

04 April 2009, 10:58 AM
If you could help me with the following questions it would be great!
1 should Florence stand alone or with the pet?
2 should Florence be more chield like and play down the sensual side?

04 April 2009, 10:38 PM
Hey mate,

1. Definitly WITH beast... since its part of the concept, isn't it?

2. Yeah I would suggest that. Since the first sketches of her I thought its supposed to be a child.

...short post... but got to make some last brushstrokes and go to bed. :)

I'm curious bout your scene! Keep it up, Daniel!

04 April 2009, 02:21 AM
man. This is coming out sweetly.

I'm wondering where people are finding the download for the dominance war logo, where'd you get it?

04 April 2009, 11:01 PM
Sergio> did you bust out, those guys are up to things far worseÖ*getting dragged off*
aaaaah, it was just my opinionÖ :buttrock:

04 April 2009, 11:07 PM
Jack bro, thanks for your opinion, I think Iím going to try and get back the original idea of a freak little girl, something a little more of a psychotic feel in the face. :buttrock:

Nico my man thanks for all the support, hope something good comes of it, I feel a little lost and donít really know were to go from now, ha! Heres what you asked for
Let it rip

04 April 2009, 02:57 AM
oooh the first one (the white one) looks awsome! Definately my fav, and yeah, playing down the sensual side is prob a good idea!

04 April 2009, 03:07 PM
Florence should definitely be with her pet, at least that's my opinion. Bad ass pet btw. I'm stuck on the child like decision, something tells me if she is portrayed child may draw people to the curiosity of character more then adult. It seems more unique that ay and tells a story better.

04 April 2009, 04:31 PM
Hi dude,
I think that she must have a pet. I like the up character and the down pet.
keep it up:beer:

04 April 2009, 05:48 PM
The pet almost looks final, perhaps you should consider a bit stronger arms, making them touch the ground (a pose like an ape or something like that, see how the apes of the Planet of the Apes are running).
Which emotion shall your char represent? She seems to be sad. Take care of her eyes, they seem to be a bit too far apart. The gap between those eyes regularly (considering humans :D ) is about another eye, the inner points make a straight line down to the lips outer points when looking normal. Eyes far apart resemble those of fishes.
What will your final posing be?

04 April 2009, 09:51 PM
Sergio> did you bust out, those guys are up to things far worseÖ*getting dragged off*
aaaaah, it was just my opinionÖ :buttrock:

pues siento como si me cargara la Ver... la calaca :D creo que me pego el inche influenza porcina :banghead:

i vote the same as the other guys. the white one is my favorite and should stand by her pet, but maybe some more silk is in order :D

04 April 2009, 10:20 PM
Yep, with pet. I like the face in the last one but maybe lose the plaintive look, make it a little more knowing or sly perhaps. The pet is good but you could make the tail a bit more distictive, I'm not sure at the moment if it's meant to be a scorpion stinger or a club. Nice going!

04 April 2009, 10:37 PM
NavigatorJones: okay Iím convinced, I'll go all out with the little girl, thanks for your opinion and hope to see you around for the final comp, can always use the helpful comments, all the best bro. BTW I like how your mold sheets came out, great work. :arteest:

Sleepinglion: Jacques my friend, manipulator of all insanity :buttrock: , thanks for dropping by. Iíll be going with both characters, your right about drawing the interest of the viewer. I think I lots my way when developing Florence, but the original idea was solid. Keep up that reckless brainstorming, your work is madness.

Ataulfo: Q mas Iban, che de q pare de espaŮa sos. Mi madre es de Sabadel ahŪ en Barcelona. I hope youíll like the final comp, I'm really trying to make both stand out and at the same time not take away from each other, ha! See you around.

DeadInTheAttic: Iím glad you noticed the eyes, actually special attention was played to that, its not very apparent in the mold sheet but the wings are fins of a gold fish. I also used the basic face structure of models like Gemma Ward and Kate Moss, basically strange faces but beautiful and angelic. Thank you though and I also agree with you that the pet could use larger arms but I cant change anything Iím so late (sorry  ), In the final comp the angel might give the impression, hope youíll like it, and see you soon. :D

Octostatue: oh yeah :buttrock: ! Did Ferx bail you out? With a good bottle of tequila you can fix almost anything  . And will do about the whole nudity issue, wanted to join the fun but no, maybe for next time, alright see you soon. And get to work on your molding times a ticking, leave the tequila and siesta for after the comp, hahaha! :D

04 April 2009, 10:58 PM
BaronImpossible: alright Simon, Iím glad you could take a look, and your opinion is much esteemed (I had to look up plaintive  ). With the girl, I was thinking of a feel like she weeps for humanity, but Iíll go for something more possessed by a superior power, a little more insane  . And you got me with the tail, I was so sick of working on the guy I couldnít make up my mind so I just left it different in each one, I didnít think anyone would notice, but the all watching evil eye did, ha! Thanks gain, big hug bro! :D

04 April 2009, 02:30 AM
Hey Daniel,

Cool work so far!! :D I like the concept with florence like now, and yes you need to play down the sensual side a bit. If you have time maybe you can give a try to florence like a young lady :D and play more with the sensual side, but I like a lot florence child expression in this concept :D, and the keys and the keyhole are a very unique and original idea.
Your final concept painting need to have both, florence and the beast. Agree with Simon (BaronImpossible) about the tail issue for the beast :D
Cheers my friend!! + tequila!! :D

(Vas muy bien Daniel y a darle duro que queda poco tiempo, a meterle duro al tequila y a pintar como un loco :D)

04 April 2009, 02:52 PM
here is what I've got so far. I know the pose looks a little funny, need to figure that out, maybe wile I sip my tere-quila (thanks Gerardo). okay everyone back to work (after leaving a comment if you can :D ), and all the best to everyone hows got too work extra hard to have this done on time, we'll make it

04 April 2009, 04:29 PM
I'd take his left arm and make him touch the ground (to keep its balance), while his right arm is reaching for something.
The hands looking more like claws might fit better, not that smooth and sharp tips.

04 April 2009, 11:47 PM
Hey Dan,

Yes, the pose is kinda weird. Especially the legs. Maybe try some sketches with the girl and environment ( as far it is planed) to get a better feeling for the whole?
The arms are pretty cool, but the hand are too human like. I would agree with deadintheattic, that claws would fit better.

Gotta go to sleep now ... long day man... long day... :D

04 April 2009, 09:31 PM
Hi Daniel, I like the colors on your last sketch.

Igual subiendole los brazos te puede quedar una pose mas agresiva.
keep it up:beer:

04 April 2009, 09:37 PM
Looking good, specially the head and arms. The chest / lower body appears unnaturally twisted, however, mainly due to the sternum (breast-bone, centre of the chest) not meeting the lower part of the creature's neck.

Nice job, though, keep it up :)

04 April 2009, 10:38 PM
looking good so far. Like the others, i dont like the legs and the pose of the lower part of the body. It looks like he`s toddling like Baloo from the Jungle Book. But i`m sure you get this right. Keep it on!

04 April 2009, 04:36 AM
Hola Daniel, I see you got a lot of feedback about the girl and beast (and about not corrupting a child, you sick son of a b* :p), and I think you're aiming in the right direction. About the composition so far, yeah I agree that the pose is a bit awkward and I can't see where Florence fits in...:hmm:

There's a million ways to go with this concept, like having Florence pointing at an enemy offscreen and telling her beast to attack; or ridding over him away fron danger; or sitting over his shoulder while he remains calm and tamed. She could be standing inocently while her pet lurks in the back watching over her; or Florence could have his arms wrapped around her tenderly while she sleeps.
I read the descriptions you made about the characters and the scene, and although they are very good, you have to be realistic about how much information you can get across in one single image. You have to find the composition that best describes the relationship between these two, and try not to rely on words to describe your concept. I guess that's THE best piece of advice I'll give you thoughout this challenge.

Dale pa' delante pederasta! :p

04 April 2009, 05:47 PM
Ferx: che q bueno verte por estos lados. Iím so so so late, Iíll have to pass on the tequila, food, sleep and all the essentials. Thanks for the support and your opinion is always a good one, Iíll be going for the little girls since its what everyone liked the best. Un abrazo bien grande, y fuerza loco, todo va salir bien!

DeadInTheAttic: Yeah hi pose is not looking good and Iíll have to change the whole thing. The reason Iím giving him normal hands was to create some contrast in his appearance (he originally had claws), and give him more of a crafty air and not just a big dumb beast, Iíll give them more ageing and a rougher texture. Thank you so much I really appreciate you dropping by. :arteest:

Jack: How did you get so ahead of me, god your fas  t, and Iím so slow , Im going to go for something simple, time is flying and Iím stuck, I just cant get this dude to look right, I think itís a little over my head. Iíve got it in my head but cant put it on paper :banghead: , guess Iíll go for a little compromise, the important think is to finish. Thanks for dropping by. I think youíll like the hands when I finish them.

Ataulfo: che gracias por pegarte un vuelta. SI como dije voy a hacer algo simple. I hop you like it. I really wanted something aggressive and action packed, well maybe for next year. Keep it up bro!

BaronImpossible: Tks for the visit, your so right. Thanks for the explanation  . Iíll get up and try again. Your stuff is incredible BTW, looking at your and others process Iíve learned a lot for next year, and how to avoid getting in such a fix for time. Iíll have to rush it  .

MR: thanks bro. I have such a hard time getting all my influences out of my system, I thought about having my beast throwing a coconut, but donít think that would go over too well. Thanks for paying a visit, all the best amigo.

Ger: I was hoping you would show up soon :scream: , I was feeling a little lost. Youíve turned into some what of a guru for me  , Iíve always needed someone to slap some sense into me. I should have gone for something more simple and static (like lots of your ideas), Iím not up to this action stuff to over my head. Your counsel is much appreciated master Ger, and I will make good use of it. Cuidate loco, y gracias por salvarme de 10 aŮos de carcel, sos un hero!

Hi live2contage maybe you can do it jumping with his hands up ,something like throwing a big energy ball , well nice monster

Good luck ;)

05 May 2009, 06:21 PM
i think u should give it a spine twist.... it's way too flat now with the pubis straight to camera... it kills depth give it an angle and u could work out some cool stuff also with the shin/fur effect of the twist on the waist

05 May 2009, 08:22 PM
Hey Daniel,

Cool updates :D Like the skin texture for the beast, looks really great. Agree with the comments about the pose, looks a bit stif, think the before image have a more dynamic gesture. The background of the last is really great , like the color on it and cool enviroment :D Cheers!! + tequila :D

05 May 2009, 09:57 PM
Yor working hard:beer:

Ok some suggestions:

Composition: Enlarge your canvas on one side. The creature fills your whole picture, that makes the composition a bit boaring.

Light: Your creature is too bright contrary to the background. You could`t backlight him therefore you have put him in to shadow and light only some spots with a light source in the front.

Anatomy. The figure looks a bit stiff. Twist his upper part of his body a bit. You can also put his right arm more to our right so that he disguises a bit of his torso.

I hope I can help a bit.

Go Go Go

Hi there guys. Thanks so much for all the good feed back. I feel bad I wont be able to change much with the pose and general composition, I only have 20hrs left and cant get my hands on any more time. Iím very inexperienced, and donít want to run any risks, Iím going to shoot for image quality more than an interesting composition (I'll leave that to all you proís for now).

Alekzsander: thanks for dropping by, Iím glad you like it and Iím sorry about not being able to change the pose, but yeah that would probably look cool.

Stefano Dubay: hell yeah! Those pubes are way out of line :buttrock: Öhmmm. I was just thinking about that this morning, his tail looked a little like his member :surprised , and I tried to cover it with something. Adding Florence to the comp should ad to the depth and will hopefully spice things up a bit. Anyhow hope youíll like the update, I wish I had more time to try out all these great ideas. See ya round bro, have a good one. Your dude is looking insane BTW.

Ferx : che locura como anda eso Viejo. Iím going to paint like mad and hope that makes up for the other lacks. I also donít want him to take way from Florence who will be at an angle in front of him, hope everything works out nicely. Thanks for all your support bro and Buena onda. Y sguile metiendo a full con tu demonia, esta re heavy. I would die if I found her in my bed. All the best bro! + tere-tequi

MR: all very useful :lightbulb . I agree with all of it and hope to be able to put as much of it into my work. As soon as I put Florence in I think Iíll be able to get a better idea of how to balance the whole thing out. Thank you for helping me out I need all I can get my hands on. See you around your always welcome. Your piece is looking better every time, big hug!

i suggest adding a bit canvas to the left so the girls hand wont touch the edge

i would add a tiny spot of even more saturated red/orange on girls hair to amplify accent

making background darker will make girl pop up

Hola Daniel, hoy toca otro sermůn, te debo tener podrido.... Voy a ser un poco duro contigo, espero que me perdones. Dude, I don't want to give you a hard time, but the way you rendered Florence isn't working for me at all .

From a technical point of view, Florence rendering, lighting and angle/perspective do not match the rest of the image. The rendeing of her is way more realistic than the rest of the picture, the light source she is under doesn't seem to be affecting any other element in the entire scene and the camera seems to be looking down at her, while it is looking straight ahead for the rest of the picture.....

From a stroytelling/concept point of view, I think the pose and placing are strange. At first glance, an average viewer sees a little girl in a pose that suggests self-sacrifice standing in front of a big bad wolf that looks hungry... you do the math...., but I guess it's the complete opposite message of what you want to convey.

My suggestions are:
A. a big bad wolf is good enough. A big bad wolf that shoots lightining bolts from its hands may be a little too much. I don't think it adds too much to your concept...
B. if you don't want to show Florence as a snack for the wolf, then you should place her and pose her differently (most probably not in front of the wolf). IMO the best place would be standing by his side, clinging to his leg as if looking for protection. If you place her in front of the wolf, inevitably sheīll look like a prey.
C. Once you find the proper placing of the characters, then think of a good light source and light the whole scene with it. That will tie everything together.
D. It may be wise to get rid of elements that don't help to tell the main story, cause they are distracting.

I know I'm being extra harsh on you, but I hope the suggestions help you to make the most out of your concept.
Acordate, tenťs que contar una historia en una imagen solita. No podťs darte el lujo de que el mensaje sea ambiguo, o corrťs el riesgo de que todo tu trabajo se vaya a la porra. Abrazo y cuidate.

05 May 2009, 04:22 AM
hey daniel, im sorry but i gotta agree with gerardo. i think you over developed the wolf character a bit much loosing what the people really liked about your concept, for me it was the simplicity and realism.

siguele dando duro man ;)!

05 May 2009, 10:47 AM
Good work, but I agree with the other comments. Your wolf character is good enough without all the magic stuff. Direct the attention towards it! :)

05 May 2009, 12:42 PM
thanks for all the comments, I'll answer some time today, heres what i've done so far to put them into action, some, Gerardo you give me way to much work, just what i need to keep me on the edge thanks!!!

05 May 2009, 04:59 PM
Hi Daniel,
Nice progress. I like the color palette.

05 May 2009, 08:26 PM
Hey Daniel,

I see you are working really hard, good :D Agree with Iban , cool color palette on your image!! Cheers!! ( nada de cerveza, tequila o cualquier otra bebida de los dioses por ahora :D a darle duro que queda poco tiempo!! :arteest: )

Fadingray: thanks for the observation, hope you'll liked what Iíll show tomorrow. BTW I loved you entry last year, just saw it, are you in this one 2? Let me know thanks again, un abrazo and take care.

Octostatue: hey hermano, you staying in the comp after all? Hope so itís been good having you around, glad I read that post on the summery, je. Yeah itís easy to lose your way and get lost with the emotion, your right about simplicity and that was my original goal, I guess you see so much insanity you get triped off, that also happened with Florence. Gracias por ayudarme no perder la identidad. Un abrazo loco cuidate.

MartinNielsen. Eh Martin good to see you around I was missing you a bit around these parts, figured you got scared of my Little sorcerer girl, ha! No I figured you must have a lot of work, I think its happened to several, good thing about the time extension, I was planning on staying up a couple nights, thank god. I hope you like the rock on fire that will be replacing the lighting, heíll be about to through it at a bad guy, hmmm I wonder who could be a good targetÖactually maybe not, hahaha (that tong just looks to scary for me) see you man, keep it up.

Ataulfo: che gracias, pasate maŮana q van haber un buen update, salu vijo nos vemos.

Ferx: I really never thought you would say that :surprised , finally some healthy advice from a parting buddy. Always good to see you around, some what of a moral boost, and will celebrate once the victory is ours, well, losing isnít such a bad thing either, so weíll celebrate either way, nos vemos man, gracias por la Buena Honda se nececita. Un abrazo

GaeasHerald: before even readying your post I was like oh sÖ, this dosnt look good, more work :banghead: , ahhh no time. But Iíve got to say Iíve always needed a though school master, and whatever good comes from this entry will be in big part thanks to you pushing me (estoy tratando de aprender como ahcerlo yo mismo pa cuando no estes ja). Iíll show you my progress tomorrow, I think it captures as much of your advice as humanly possible, I hope you like it. Keep hitting me hard, its my only salvation. Che nos vemos, y gracias por ser tan directo, no es facil pero es lo q sirve, nos vemos Viejo (estas estudiando medicina? )un abrazo

05 May 2009, 12:40 PM
Hi there. This is what I have so far, trying to implement your suggestions as much as possible. Mizgrif still needs more work, I havenít even touched Florence yet so shell be changing a bit and the light is just to give an idea, Iíll leave the lighting for the end with the back ground.
Needed feed back: color palette, composition, angle, expressions and anything ells you feel could help. Thanks again for dropping by.

05 May 2009, 12:59 AM
Hey Daniel,

It developes very good!
The composition is a bit unbalanced. There is too much going on around the girl. I would try to clear it up by pulling the beast away reduce the action around her head.
I would also divide the both characters with a slight dust, what would push the depth of the pic.
In the lower right corner isn't much happening so I would crop that part and put more focus on the main part.
The colorpalette is good I think. But I would suggest to study the behaviour of white surfaces in certain cases. If they're not lighten up by bright light, they get the ambientcolor. So in this case the hair of the beast wouldn't be grey, but kinda ochre. If you don't feel comfortable with this stuff don't realize it, but in future you should thought about this issue. :) ( but only in cases which aren't in the focus like the hair of the beast. The girls cloth should mostly be bright white )

Ah , and the key-chain is really flat. It should be bended more around the body.

just a little sketch to show what i mean -

05 May 2009, 11:07 AM
che, loco Jack. que bueno verte!!! you have no idea how happy I was to see your around before I started my work this morning, very useful. I needed to make the final decitions about my comp, so that was great. thanks again I hope you like it. :arteest:

To all: the light and fog are just a quick test. tonight I'm going for a 14hr shift, see if I can finish this up, so there is still a LOT of work missing. So if you have an ideas of opinions pleas shoot, be brutal :buttrock: I need it. thanks again to all those who have helped so far, its been great!

05 May 2009, 11:29 AM
Much better :) I still think you can do some adjustments on the composition. The girl could be moved to right a bit, and the space between the characters and the frame could be a bit larger.

05 May 2009, 12:08 PM
hey Martin, this one is for you man. Thanks for the support and timely advice. see you soon, and your dude is really coming nicely, big hug and all the best

05 May 2009, 01:38 PM
Love the illustration man!:buttrock:

05 May 2009, 04:09 PM
Yeah, great, Daniel!
But the girl doesn't fit in the perspective. She's viewed from above while the rest is kinda frontal. And her anatomie is a bit weird. She doesn't look like a young girl, because of the face. I guess you had a reference for that- an older girl maybe?
And the fingers could be a bit more delicate. More childish.

These are the only crits a have. The rest looks great! Good job on that, mate! :)

05 May 2009, 05:55 PM
The last update looks very good. I like a lot your style.

Muy buen trabajo.
keep it up, dude:beer:

05 May 2009, 08:41 PM
Hey Dani,
its coming together very nicely indeed. The updates you've made are taking it in the right direction. It seems to me that the creature's focal point is its face so I would exagerate some of the highlights in the mouth. The amount of light in the mouth feels alright but I'm missing some sharper highlights on the teeth. Like some of the bright light coming from his left side could reflect on the contours of the teeth. Maybe i'm just beeing anal. I actually like it very much the way it is. Its Conceptual art after all.

05 May 2009, 09:01 PM
Hey Daniel,

Really cool update, like the composition in the last image, and the colors works really well.

About Florence: That hair cut is not the right for a little girl, more for a lady on 60īs and 70īs, use a not to tall hair for she. The horizont line on the bottom part comes from top right, descending to the left to florence, and her arms are in the same line, that creates an unbalanced image, guiding the eyes to the left bottom corner and out of the canvas, you can rise the Florence left arm and that could puts more emphasis to where she is looking.

Like a lot the expression for the beast, really cool !

Great work!! Looking forward for more updates !! Cheers!!

05 May 2009, 10:51 AM
thanks guys for all the good comments and support, it really means a lot, I'll answer back some time today, hope you like the progress. mainly trying to work the mood get everything to come together. see you soon, we're almost there!

05 May 2009, 12:08 PM
Hey Daniel,
Its coming along nicely.Looking good so far.Keep it up.

05 May 2009, 01:21 PM
Daniel: Very nice!! Remarkable process. Just a little critique: Be careful with all the small light spots in your image (fireballs, girls dress on the right side od your image) they are desturbing the eye-flow and they also are destracting from your nicely renderes beast. But all in all your on the right way!!

05 May 2009, 10:56 PM
StAtaulfo> thanks man, glad all the hard work is paying off, hope something nice will come of all of this, thanks for sticking around and the support, un abrazo man!

Stutts> thanks bro there is still more to come, I hope ha! Take care hermano.

Yakonusuke> loco Jack, thanks for dropping by, always a comforting feeling, he. About the perspective, she-s a lot lower than the beast so I thought it was right, but Iíll do the lines and make sure, if your right well, Iím screwed, you have no idea how much time I spent on her face that angle kills. I actually paid carful attention to her futures, the big separate eyes, tall for head and an older face. I wanted to do something just a little different, create an interesting effect in the viewer, hope it worked out. Yeah I mentioned earlier Iím using Gemma Ward for inspiration, and I donít know what to do about the hands, also a killer and I used a 4 year old kid for reff, no se, Iíll see if I can work it some more. Bueno viejo nos estamos viendo nos vemos pronto.

Snk> thanks, cool to have you around and glad you like the way its coming. I worked the mouth a little, but there is still lots of fine tuning, hope I have time to put something tight together.

Ferx> q mas papi, q bueno verte por estos lados, siempre una grata sorpresa. I totally get what you mean about Florence. Iím not so happy with her myself, I was hoping for something more dramatic, her body arched backwards and a more possessed expresiůn. But sheís calm in the raging storm, tampoco esta mal. If I have time to change her arm I will. This whole piece is way beyond anything Iíve donít before, Iíve mainly doodled my how life and started taking art seriously for 6 months now, so Iím a little over my head, ha!
Un gran abrazo vijo, nos estamos viendo, pa riba pa fuera pa dentro

Prabath> thanks bro, glad your liking it, and its always good to have a new face around, hope to see soon, take care and all the best.

MR> hi there MR, glad to see you around, always a big help in time of need. I just looked at this from another monitor and it looks way to saturated. The fire balls are way to bright, but at the same time I need the, itís what sheís invoking. Maybe less in amount of balls, I didnít get the dress part, but there should be a explosion at the bottom right corner, hope it wont be to much. I thought the dust was good, should I get rid of it or just not ad more, let me know. Big hug bro thanks again

05 May 2009, 08:33 PM
beautiful piece!!...I'll look forward to seeing ya final image!...

05 May 2009, 11:54 PM
hey Daniel, I'm not sure if you finished but the latest update looks pretty awesome :)
even if you weren't able to submit a finished image, i think you got pretty much got what most of us in this competition wanted, not winning a price but getting good feed back and meeting new friends to network with.
You'll have an awesome addition to your portfolio when its finished, so Congratulations
I hope to see you again soon my friend..

05 May 2009, 02:31 AM
Well, I honestly think you've done a solid job, and your work really shows that you've learned a lot. I think you have a bright future in the world of digital art and you will pick up more experience and ability along the way, pero no te duermas en tus laureles!
Watching these first steps of yours has been very enjoyable, and hopefully some of my "sermones" have been of help.

05 May 2009, 04:31 PM
Well this is what I sent. I personally would have given it another 10 hrs of work. On the last day my daughter got sick, so I spent the day with her, but I think I really did push with everything I had, around 170 hours on DW (from 4 to 8 am every day).

I think this is a great society and I couldnít of done the progress I did if it werenít for all of you good friends and passerbyís who helped out with all those useful comments. So I want to dedicate this work to all the friends who made it possible  (touching moment). A special thanks to:

GaeasHerald, you really went way beyond the call of duty and your counsel was good and to the point :arteest: . Thanks for taking all that time to help me out, it was a great experience working with you on this comp. I hope the rest of your career keeps unfolding nicely.(metele duro a la rumba! :D )

Ferx, I think youíre an incredible example of a good team player, you probably dedicated more time to others work than your own. You have a great sense of humor and it was awesome having you around, pa riba, pa fura pa dentro, saluuu!

yakonusuke, all your support and good tips have had a big impact on my work, and your own work inspired me to push hard and up the quality of my work. It was a great way of getting to know you, hope to see you and all the rest around in the future.

And a big thanks to all the rest how also gave their support, insane ideas, critics and all the rest that makes up one hell of a good competition.

Really good result, well done!

05 May 2009, 12:02 AM
Hey Daniel,

Cool work! and congratulations for this great final image ! time for a lot of tequila!! :D Cheers!!

05 May 2009, 08:51 PM
Kewl character its good to have various colurs shades one or two here and there to make the
character more interesting. I love the werewofl character very powerful and ferocious with the pure and innnocent girl balances it with originality!

05 May 2009, 10:30 PM
Good piece , and it shows that you have learned a lot in each post you have. Keep it up and good luck man.

Suerte !!!... te lo dice un compatriota!

I jumped for the cat monster... not super busy but very effective!!
good luck my friend!

05 May 2009, 01:59 AM
Nice final illustration here, really dynamic!

I think you're right, we all could have done with a little bit more polished final pieces, but it looks and does the job.

Good work, and likewise it was nice to get to know you!

06 June 2009, 02:54 PM be honest, I was following your progress from start to finish and didn't expect your final image to look as good as it does. Your process images including an important piece of your entry; " Model Sheet", does not have the same quality as your final image, which was rendered nicely. Your final piece surprised me actually. Maybe this information will help you for the next DW (if you join)...

06 June 2009, 08:42 PM
thanks, I was surprised with the final result as well, I worked myself silly. The mold sheet was the last thing I worked on and I was exhausted by then. Do you think both characters needed more work or just the girl? Anyhow thanks for the input, bro, and good luck with the rest of the comp!
