Hi there,
I'll try to work on a demon prince with dark/death power... I still don't have a clear idea but it's time to start so here's my first doodle :)

Comments and crits are welcome.

03-17-2009, 08:19 PM
I love where it's headed. Especially the shoes, maybe go some kind of "twisted hell sultan" style?

03-17-2009, 08:27 PM
Yinn you got it... I was thinking to create a sultan/pacha design inspired by the orientalists paintings. I'll also create a harem for him.
Cool cool ! I am so glad you saw my intentions :)

03-17-2009, 09:45 PM

A little update with levitation and less fat.
Comments and crits are welcome.

03-17-2009, 10:09 PM
I really like it, he has a very evil and sadistic look. He draws up on the idea of a classically evil demon and the idea of a mysterious oriental lord of some sort.

Maybe once you start going more in depth you can do some interesting things with some kind of tattoos or something like that, because I think if he had some armor or dress on his gigantic body it might take something away from it, but if it was just his stomach with nothing else it might get boring.

Keep up the good work, I'm excited to see what it looks like later

03-17-2009, 10:43 PM
Yeah the stomach would be blad with nothing but dont cover it up I think, maybe you could have runes glowing though the skin, as if he's ate them.

And you oculd have him sitting on a palanquin, with demoning servants carrying him would show his position of power more.

03-18-2009, 12:06 AM
yeah thats an awesome idea, if you could pull off like seeing the victims he has eaten through his skin somehow that would be amazing

03-18-2009, 01:28 AM

A little update :)
Comments and crits are welcome

03-18-2009, 08:36 AM
SpecArs4 and Kharn-ivor , thank you guys for these good ideas.
I agree with your idea of keeping him with no armor... About the tatoos/runs you are right too, but I think I'll go for something more oriental like "henna".
I will also work on his sadic and vicious side... I think I'll develop a female side of him, a travesti... I also think it would be intresting to have this kind of ambiguity visible on/around him, a mix between Androphilia ang Gynephilia...
I will add some further details very soon :wip:

Thank you guys, cheers

03-18-2009, 11:00 AM
Henna tatoo on hands... The demon prince will eat souls by joining his hands... brrrr

Comments and crits are welcome

03-18-2009, 12:00 PM
Nice job, I think a bit of dapery or jewelery would bring out his character more. He seems like he would be indulgent enough to drape himself in wealth. Good lucK!

03-18-2009, 12:06 PM
i love the direction you're heading in! really original approach!

03-18-2009, 11:23 PM
I really like the Henna Tattoos, thats exactly the type of oreintal tattoos i was thinking of, they look great , didnt know it was called henna :)

im excited to see more keep up the good work!

03-18-2009, 11:41 PM
This is really awesome. I will keep an eye on you :)

03-19-2009, 07:50 PM

Hi there, here is a little update. I worked on the face to make it more human and tried to develop the female and sadistic side of the demon ( some make up on face etc ...). I also inflated him more than before. I think I'll work on a character that can't walk so I can exaggerate fat on him ( maybe only levitate or just need to be carried to move from a place to an other or both, it's still not clear on my mind...). A lot of ideas that I didn't had enough time to develop, I'll probably go further this weekend when I'll have some free time :)

Comments and crits are welcome

03-19-2009, 07:58 PM
Love the fat man. Maybe make him like Baron Harkonnen from Dune - he was pretty fat and levitated all over the place.

03-19-2009, 08:19 PM
@Chachi: sure ! Drapery or jewelry will come very soon I already have some ideas, i'll post them as soon as I can. Thanks a lot for you support and advices.

@Intervain: Thank you, I really want to make something different that common demons... I hope I'll succed. thanks again

@SpecArs4: Yeah it's called Henna in arabic at least, stay tuned for more oriental stuff :)
thanks for your advices and support.

@solblomma: You are welcome ! Don't hesitate to criticize too. Thanks

@BaronImpossible: Man you damn' right ! A mix between Baron Harkonnen and Jabba will fit perfectly to my demon, I'll try to develop this... Thanks ! Oh I like the good job you are doing with your character :)

03-19-2009, 08:19 PM
Very cool, i think i like the original face though, this one seems a little to harmless to me compared to the original one

good luck!

03-19-2009, 08:38 PM
Great demon concept.

I love the very decadent look he has. It would be great to see him floating with a body that is just to heavy to seem believable. I think that you need to make him a bit more decadent and evil. He has got an air of Jabba the hunt.

Looking forward for more posts.

03-20-2009, 01:03 AM
Hey Nabil,

Really great and original concept, like a lot!! and cool sketches :D Good luck and looking forward for more updates! Cheers!

03-20-2009, 02:57 AM
excelent concept! Love the logo in the hands, very original! The expresion on the face of the last one reminds me of Meatloaf :)

Keep it coming, very inspiring work.

03-20-2009, 12:37 PM

Hi, this is a speed 3D sculpt of the demon to help me visualize the face better. This a "human" version, I'll try to create an other beastly one, I'll probably make some changes on the horns too... I still don't know how but I'll give it a try :)

Comments and crits are welcome

03-22-2009, 11:43 AM
@SpecArs4: I am still not sure with the face, but I think it's important to keep some human properties on him... I' am trying to find a balanced level between human/beast design. Thanks a lot mate !

@Yone: you are right ! More evil would be great, I am working on this. As I said before to my mate BaronImpossible I am trying to mix between Baron Harkonnen from Dune and Star wars Jabba the hunt. I think it could be interesting. Thank you for your support !

@Ferx: Heu Ferx thank you for your support mate! I need some tequila to work faster :D
Cheers mate

@whiterat: Hahaha... Meatloaf!!! you damn' right hahahaha I didn't saw it ! Thank you for your support :)

More to come soon :D

03-22-2009, 01:22 PM

Some more face sketches
Comments and crits are welcome

03-22-2009, 04:10 PM
That's probably the biggest man around this contest... :) No. 3 face (from left) fits the character best, I think.

03-24-2009, 05:14 PM
Thx Martin for your comment ! I think I lost the "effeminate side" of him.. I need to work more on this.
Thanks again ! :)

03-24-2009, 06:11 PM
Nice concept! me too liked the levitation idea.. suits perfectly for this character, i can imagine this character being in air and just moving his head from left to right and if he would have been a demon lord then he could have summoned some demons by just blowing the smoke out of that hookah kind of thing.. :wise:

Great going.. Nice sculpt of the head and among those face sketches, 3rd one is good but i also liked those interesting antenna kind of thing on his head.. was wondering what it might be :curious:

03-26-2009, 05:14 AM
cool demon baron harkonnen :D please keep the split logo on the hands!

03-26-2009, 08:44 AM
Hi ! This a speed lighting test. I added the first harem girl too.
The demon is still not the final one, I'll probably start working on jewelry and tatoos and add some other girls then I'll back on the demon character design.

C&C are welcome

03-26-2009, 06:29 PM
@namnocilis: Thanks mate ! About the strange antennas :) It was a try with some encent stick on the head. Don't ask me why because I don't know. It was a strange idea that came to me from nowhere... :D Cheers

@StefanoDubay: HAHA don't worry my friend, the logo will be there !

03-27-2009, 11:17 AM
Update :)
Comments and crits are welcome

03-27-2009, 11:42 AM
Great, maybe mix the one with hat with the one that is laying on the ground, good touch would be to add big plate in front of him where his slaves could give him food:) but thats just quick idea dunno:)

03-27-2009, 04:13 PM

An other little update :)
The henna tatoo on his belly is just for test, the design will be different... more scary :)

03-27-2009, 05:56 PM

Crits and comment are welcome :)

03-27-2009, 06:02 PM
hehe, kinda makes me think of Harkonnen... I liked the previous version more though - the shoulder pads dont' do it for me ;)

03-27-2009, 06:14 PM
@nellement: thanks alot mate :) I'll probably work on this for the final image yep !
@intervain: Yes I am tryin to find a min between Harkonnen and Jabba the hunt :) thanx alot for shoulder blast I wasn't really convinced and you helped me to get rid of them :D

03-27-2009, 08:48 PM
big one ^^ I like this kind of characters !
Like Intervain i'm not fan of the shoulders pads. I think you can only wear him with tissues and jewels, just my mind ^^

03-27-2009, 09:58 PM
Hey Nabil,

Really cool updates! :D you are working hard for sure , great!! Agree with the shoulder pads, and I miss the horns of your previous versions, perhaps yo can give a try again with that type of cloths and jewels. If you can, search for Moebius (Jean Giraud )concept art for "Dunes", really inspiring artist ( one of my favs :D) he has a incredible touch for outfits and cloths, maybe can be useful like reference, only a comment :) Great work and waiting for more updates! Cheers!!

03-29-2009, 10:49 AM
@neobear : thanks mate :) shoulder pads are gone :D

@ferx : Hey buddy thanks for the advice, I already studied the references of the big master Moebius, he's an an source of inspiration for me too.
Giraud's design are inspired from this culture with a SF touch. My goal is a little bit different I'll try to design real oriental stuff directly based on my childhood memories and my north african culture ... my designs will also be based on the orientalistes paintings...
Cheers buddy

03-29-2009, 12:12 PM

The demon prince puppy :)
Crits and comment are welcome

03-31-2009, 08:53 PM
Back on face concept... still not sure about the way I should take.

All crits and comments are apreciated !

03-31-2009, 09:32 PM
Personally I would go for A or C.

Those have the most characteristics of something that is not a necro-undead-skeleton demon, which I think is a pretty fresh take on the whole demon-thing. #C has a bit of a pig/swine-feel to it as well, which would be suitable for a guy with that kind of body.

Good work!

04-01-2009, 09:40 AM
@solblomma: You are right, thank you for the advice mate ! I was really hesitating :)

04-01-2009, 11:06 AM

Face update :)

C&C are welcome

04-01-2009, 11:22 AM
great!very good choice for head design

04-01-2009, 02:25 PM

Model sheet step 1 :)

04-01-2009, 03:03 PM
Great stuff. Very nice sketches.

keep it up:beer:

04-02-2009, 01:10 AM
Hey! Yay, sweet. I use to have a thing for drawing fat creatures, soo much fun! :) Maybe i need to pick that up again.. Anyway, cool stuff so far. I like the full figures that are more simplyfied more than the ones with lots of smaller curves. I think you succeded in doing the bigger shapes better that the smaller curves. Maybe use some reference if your not already doing that and be a bit careful of overdoing the smaller shapes. I think the last face designs you did was quite good, though still a little bit goofy, but its on the right path definately! ;) Keep up the good work, looking forward to see this awesomely fat guy developed further!

04-02-2009, 01:50 AM
Hey Nabil,

Cool head studies, like a lot the pig ears version, looking really cool and fit nice with the concept!! Cheers!!

04-02-2009, 08:05 AM
@nellement: tnx mate ! :)
@Ataulfo: tnx too :beer:
@FrozZT: yep you are right, I guess you were talking about the belly wrinkles... it was a speed test but according to my references and to what I want to have it's not working this why I decided to abandon this idea and to go back to the rounded version :D Thanks for this good comment !
@frex: Glad to know that you like it buddy

I am really disappointed this morning, I discovered that my model sheet file went corrupted, I was about to share my update with you guys but the machine bad karma got me
So I am obliged to restart it again... I worked on it all the last night
If someone knows how to repair a corrupted PSD file on mac ... any help would be appreciated

04-06-2009, 02:39 PM

I finally restarted my damaged modelsheet file from the beginning

hi Nabil,

cool the last one, the stomach could maybe look like an egg, more thin on the up and more large on the down. for show the gravity. like a ballon full of water.

04-06-2009, 06:28 PM
@neobear: Thanks mate you are right... I'll refine this soon :)

04-06-2009, 09:06 PM
Ahahaaa, brilliant! There's nothing like a floating fat man to get the creative juices flowing. Nice choice of head and the body is excellent. Makes me want to eat cake.

04-07-2009, 11:23 AM

Hi, I started working on Iblees's (the final name) spell of death... I already added in some of my sketches some arabic calligrams, I'll push it further soon with more floating words around him.
The most important one will be the one above his head. It will sometimes indicate his thoughts and some times his feelings (yep this demon has feeling :) )
This calligram is the way to keep dominance on his slaves in order to maintain them under his control... a kind of powerful hypnotic spell that is enough dangerous to kill when prince Iblees wants to.

Crits and comments are welcome

Hi folks, this a new update in wich I am exploring the idea of suspension instead of levitation... I think it's more repulsing and harsh... a hunged fat pig :D

Comments and crits are really appreciated

04-10-2009, 01:44 PM

A new update :)
Comments and crits are really appreciated

04-10-2009, 02:45 PM
Funny setup :) It looks rather painful though.

04-10-2009, 03:28 PM
Really painful. But a nice idea and a focus on our team.

My first thought was about some devils of the game "Dungeon Keeper", fat, nasty creatures. Ugliness outta hell ;)

Perhaps you might setup something like a cell or temple in which this one is hanging 'round. You might also use some chains additionally, which pull his legs, stomach and so on.

04-10-2009, 08:46 PM
@MartinNielsen: Yep sooo painful :D
@DeadInTheAttic: You're reading in my minde dude ! I already started working on his palace :wip:

Thank you guys for your support,

04-11-2009, 05:02 PM
Wow! this one really sticks out! I love the design( logo on palm. wick! ) and the character, he is so evil looking! keep it up!

04-14-2009, 10:00 AM
@DTRAN: thank you ! :beer:

04-14-2009, 10:14 AM
Ahah poor demon :D

04-14-2009, 11:41 AM
Hello, here's a little update of Iblees in his cursed palace. I thought It would be a good thing to start working on his environement before getting back and blocking his final design... well it's an excuse to start working on the harem

Comments and crits are welcome

04-14-2009, 12:48 PM
Hi nabil,

I like a lot your character. You have a very nice stuff here.
keep it up:beer:

04-14-2009, 02:46 PM

Hi, here's a new update. I came back to the horns, added some harem girls and I started modifying the clothes of Iblees... and I came to a new version with a huge fat on the floor. Actually it's a mix between my first sketches and the latest version of my demon. I still don't know if I will keep it or not.
What do you think folks? A or B ?

C&C are welcome

04-14-2009, 07:24 PM

Alittle update :)

C&C are welcome

04-14-2009, 07:29 PM
@Ataulfo: Thanks dude for your support !

04-14-2009, 09:49 PM
actually, I think I liked it a little more without the horns. The normal head gives you the human relationship, while the grotesque sagging fat says evil. I think it speaks more to the viewer than adding horns. Also, more hooks and chains would not be amiss. I know you're going for symmetry at the moment, but it's almost TOO symmetrical. I like the idea (fat anythings are always cool) and I'd love to see this to the end. Keep it up.

04-15-2009, 12:03 AM
That guy is so fat!!! LOL! *shudders* I'm very curious to see your final image!

04-15-2009, 04:47 AM
Wow! Perfect concepts. specially the henna tatoo!
Keep going this way ;)

My DMWIV entry:

04-15-2009, 05:12 AM
wow, very nice concepts..Make more women stand beside him, with very little clothing, and create an eerie lighting...Like the scenes from 300.

04-15-2009, 11:05 AM

Hello, still refining Iblees and I think I am getting close, so I share it with you guys to have feedbacks :)
I'll answer to the interesting comments I received later in the day :)

C&C are welcome

04-15-2009, 12:47 PM
This is awesome; very nice concept. The saging fat is just freaky. Needs to have a little asymmetry. Keep up the good work.

04-15-2009, 03:17 PM
@corspufo: Thank buddy for your good crit ! I hope you like my last version of fat :) Don't worry about symmetry I am working on it and the palace concept is not the final image ;) it's just to help me improve my design and imagin more stuff about Iblees's environement.
Thanks a lot !

@numabrush: thanks for you interest I hope you'll like the final image... I still don't know what it would be :D

@Ario: I am really glad to know that you like the henna concept, I will have it on my final for sure... I hope I'll have enough time to finish :) Thanks mate !

@vikramvr: hahaha an other one that likes harem girls like me :D I'll push the girls design further as soon as possible, thanks for your suggestion.

@JRBarton: asymmetry is coming, as I said to corspufo, it's there for the moment to help me work faster (and I am not fast) thank you so much for your support

04-15-2009, 03:24 PM
Really cool Jinn :buttrock: I like your concept, keep it up mate

04-15-2009, 03:37 PM

hello, this my new pet idea for Iblees. I am trying to create an evil camel I hope it will work :). as you can see I killed the hyena (sorry hyena) I think that the camel is more oriental and more powerful... It will be funny to set all these together for the final image. I hope I'll succeed in this

Comments and crits are always welcome, it's helping me a lot !

04-15-2009, 03:41 PM
@ShamesArt: Thanks buddy for your support ;)

04-15-2009, 05:16 PM
Very nice ! The camel is a great idea and all the skin on the neck is really nice. Try to improvite it, it's a really good idea !

04-15-2009, 06:39 PM
eheheh tht's awesome :) are you gonna work out a very intricate Indian looking elephant saddle to put the demon on?

04-16-2009, 07:34 AM
Hey my friend. Thank you so much for the feedbacks. It was really useful. :D You are so right and I will do what you said. You encouraged me and made me sure about my first sketches because I was'nt really sure about the new concepts and reactors!!! :))

And about the iblees! I think the A pose is better than others. because it has a floatin feeling in the air like a JINN in my mind! Oooo! I can read the arabic word: "JINN"! It can be useful for spelled weapons! :D But for more fatness, use more round shapes and fat wrinkles for the body and neck and other parts, Make them more bigger with more fat :P:D;)
And the camel is so original! But make it more fat for more harmony with fat iblees.

04-16-2009, 09:01 AM
Hello, here's a little update of the camel :)

Great ! He looks so powerfull riding his camel :)

04-16-2009, 07:02 PM
Really cool approach to the idea man! I love the direction you're going with this one!~Gonna keep an I on this wonderful concept, keep updating!

04-16-2009, 11:11 PM
wow, you've progressed a lot with this character. To be honest, in the beginning I thought your character was a bit bland, but I'm pretty impressed now, you've come a long way and I'm enjoying your progression. I prefer your latest concept over the others, I really liked your hyena creature a lot, but I also like your mutated camels, keep up the great work man. Maybe try adding some ornamentation/flare on the circular rack that's on his back (just a suggestion)..

04-16-2009, 11:45 PM
I like a lot that strange camel.:buttrock:

keep it up, dude:beer:

04-17-2009, 08:30 AM
@Abrvpt: thanks buddy, I hope you mike the last profile version of the camel

@StefanoDubay: Man you were reading in my mind :) I started working on the saddle so let me know what you think about it ;). Thanks a lot !

@ario: My pleasure buddy, my pleasure ! Thank you for your support and good advices

@alexy: Merci mec !

@Shiramune: Thank you so much ! It's really encouraging me Thank you so much buddy

@ROBOTTANK: Glad to know you like my progression :) And you are right, ornamentation is coming very soon ;) Thanks for your support dude !

@Ataulfo: Cheers buddy :beer:

Thank you guys for your advices and kind words, it's motivating ! Stay in touch buddies I still need your comments and crits :)

04-17-2009, 12:28 PM
Tres sympa comme taff!

Looks really nice I like the idea of character, tattoo etc...

Your camel concept looks nice. Also it looks like this big piece of skin is pretty heavy and make him unbalance.
I will for sure dig the concept. Camel is such a funny and great design animal as it is that I am sure if you push it further you will end up with something amazing.

Bon courage!

04-17-2009, 03:28 PM

Hello :) here's a small update, I already started working on the color palette, I'll share it with as soon as possible to have some feedbacks.
Comments and crits are welcome

04-17-2009, 05:14 PM
@CharlesVarenne: thanks buddy glad to know you like my concept ! I will try to improve the skin piece while painting it to make it less heavy :)

04-17-2009, 05:44 PM
hey NH nice concepts. a very narrative character. If you would make those animals extremely skinny, your fat dude would become even fatter and your scenario more grotesque..

good luck

04-17-2009, 08:05 PM

First colors guys :)
Comments and crits are really appreciated

04-17-2009, 08:19 PM

the concept is cool, your drawing skills are awesome, and the last one has so very much atmoshpere.
But i wouldn't set him into the desert. Maybe some kind of basar would be nice, on the streets lots of corpse and between them the last survivors, who knee in anxiety and awe for him.

so long

04-17-2009, 09:23 PM
It looks cool but I think I'd like to see your character in a different setting (not the desert, if he's in the desert), I'd also like to see his arms relaxed, maybe holding a staff or something. Why is he holding his hands out? (just curious)

04-17-2009, 09:44 PM
@MR: haha some Dali style ? I could be a nice idea yeah ! I'll think about it.
Thanks for your support dude

@ DarkBlueArt: thanks buddy for your kind words :)
Your suggestion of the bazar is really interesting but the corpses and all the staff around would take more time to paint :D... anyhow I'll think about it ;)
Thanks again !

Hey Robottank good to see you on my thread again :)
About the hands he is holding them out like this to attack his ennemies... it a kind of invocation. He join his hand to have the henna cgs logo launch his death spell.
I already doodled a little thing about the henna tatoo :)

About the desert... I am still not sure but I will see if I have enough time to design an other environement.

Thanks buddy for following my work and for your advices

04-18-2009, 01:20 PM

Hi, here's my update :)
C&C are welcome

04-18-2009, 04:55 PM
It's looking good. A pity we can't see more of the fat man but the alien camel things are great so there's no lack of interest. I like the reflected light from the sand, that's the sort of nice touch that can elevate a painting.

A couple of things. The stance of the main camel-thing. There's something wrong with the positioning of its front right leg (to our left). It's too far back and bent in like that makes for instability. It's probably meant so that it's taking a step, in which case a well-placed shadow darkening might make things better, although I'd try angling it out more and bringing it forward.

Also, each of the small camels is positioned equidistant from the main one. It makes the composition look a bit artificial.

Coming on great, though.

04-19-2009, 11:15 AM
Hey BaronIpossible you are right, my wife also told me the same thing, I didn't placed the shadow yet but even with a good shadow on the right leg I think that I'll probably modify it a little bit to make it work better :)
About the small camels you are right too, I'll fix this soon... I am thinking to add more camels and maybe a kind of army ... so I'll for sure change this.

Wow! I can see the warm colors. Nice start for the illustration.
The mood of color is the first thing that I can imagine. But I think we should try another things about our works. I always think like that! But about this piece I'm not sure! Because it has an eastern and hot desert atmosphere. But if you have the time try another colors like blue or some light yelloe with white .... That's just a suggestion. :D Not necessary!
But this is the color that every one expect about the concept ;)

And I just can say thank you so much for the supports and feedbacks. they really help me :D cheers
best wishes:

@ Ario: Thanks my friend for your comment :) I'll try some extra colors oon as you said but for the moment I am struggling with the other camels and people ( a kind of army). I a have a lot of stuff to fix on the composition :wip: I hope I'll post an update soon.

nice composition, although it doesn't seem to focus on your character, but rather a group of gatherers passing through, or an army of some sort. I like your character a lot and I wish I could see more of him and less of that camel creature. Your character is huge, but seems rather small in the compositions entirety. I think I liked your first color version better, only because the camel is smaller, character looks bigger and the image seemed more focused on him.

Very cool your last image, I really prefer when your caracter is floating in the air. It is unexpected for this king of character.
I hope you will still finished you image. Good luck

I still like your first composition the best of the three, this new one doesn't display your character very well..

Hey dear Nabil. How it's going my dear friend?
This is very dynamic and I'm agree with robotank and maybe a little more zoom to see the JIN in better view or direct your attention on the JIN and fade the back a little more. But the time is short. What about the final illustration? I really want to see the completed one.
Keep it up my dear friend.
Best wishes:
