I tried a lot the last two days, to make a good glass. not so easy, but i hope you enjoy this simple scene.
i desided to make this perspective, because it does look a little bit crazy

lay your head on the table and look to a glas with water :p

Software: Cinema4D R8
3 lights
no GI
2*2 - 16*16 AA
Rendertime: 1 h 10 min (2,6 GHz)

I thinks that it's a bit over-exposed in the bottom part, otherwise the rendering is very great!

PeXeL, please do, I am currently wondering how exactly to make perfect glass like that with the reflections of it on a bottom surface, could you include that too, how u got it to reflectt on the below surface that is. I am starting to learn 3d modeling, soo ;D

Looks very nice!

A bit more of a meniscus on the water would enhance the realism a lot.

I see a smudge!!

Joking aside, wonderful job. Looking forward to reading the tutorial, if you make it.

Very nice, as I said before in another forum. Makes everybody thirsty.
Nice that you wanna share that.

07 July 2003, 12:13 PM of the best glass shaders ever !
one thing : 16*16 ???? and still aliased ?
it's pretty important to develop something against such bad aliasing (i know this from extremely reflective chrome materials)

the problem's he likes to use a sharpen filter in post processing so it ****s up the AA :hmm:

07 July 2003, 12:38 PM
i do a little tutorial for it. i will share the water and glass materials.

07 July 2003, 12:40 PM
thirdeye is right. it's the sharpen filter i used 10 % :)
antialiasing was not really 16*16 aa. it's 2*2 - 16*16 with 10 % threshold :p

07 July 2003, 01:14 PM
some details, more when i did the tut

07 July 2003, 04:04 PM
By the way, did you use caustics? If yes, which settings did you take? Cuz´if I do caustics I allways get those points, not realistic lighteffects.
Nice Idea with the "Hohlkehle" like in a studio.

07 July 2003, 05:06 PM
hohlkehle lol
i do know this only by violins :)

i used surface caustics with 500 % (20000 photons)

i am not sure, if i need these, or weather you can see it here
