View Full Version : Vehicle: SEA KING
07 July 2003, 01:03 AM
This is a SEA KING HAR3 made in 3ds max .. without blueprints
07 July 2003, 01:16 AM
thats a very realistic model, how did you manage without exact reference?
07 July 2003, 01:23 AM
Man that is very wicked indeed. Super Effect
07 July 2003, 02:49 AM
that loooks very dam good, did you use refrence pics though, just not blueprints?
07 July 2003, 04:48 AM
looks really nice. Personally I'd soften the edges of the shadows just a touch.
07 July 2003, 02:32 PM
very good work!
Have u tried compositing it?
Would look ace :)
07 July 2003, 06:58 PM
thanks for the commets :)
For the reference I had some crappy photos and I extracted the proportions from them. I had a bigger problem making the details because the resolution of the pics was really bad.
Yes, I'm planning to do a composite and I'll post it here when is done.

Good modelling without blueprints :) What about making it fly ? :)
07 July 2003, 10:09 PM
it's a great work!
07 July 2003, 10:50 PM
I don't know about flying .. it wold be a problem with motion blur .. I'll see
another render :
07 July 2003, 11:03 PM
That's a beautiful couple of renders there man. I can just imagine it parked on the helipad of a ship, in the sunset.
It's really good.
07 July 2003, 11:39 PM
Ohh! Killer job. You've got to stick this on a carrier deck now, or maybe hovering about 4 feet off the deck. Very, very good job especially w/o plans/
07 July 2003, 11:48 PM
could you give us a little more info?
like how you lit the scene, and if you used any other renderers....cuz this is a great looking render
07 July 2003, 12:16 AM
I've used vray for rendering
In the last image the lighting is made only from the hdri (you can download it from here: http://www.sachform.de/download.asp )
The material is made using fresnel reflection with some masks and the color is made by blending, within a falloff map, the same texture but with some hue, brightness and saturation modifications using the color correct plugin.
07 July 2003, 06:08 PM
Great job, Undoz!
Textures are surprisingly simple - but they work! :)
It's not hard to find blueprints of the SeaKing though. If you're curious to see how accurate your model is, try matching it against this one (http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/sh3.html)! :)
Overal it looks very close. The shape of the nose seems to be a bit different though. Could you perhaps render a sideview?
In any case, great job! You definately captured the looks of a Sea King!

Hi Skyraider3D, thanks for the blueprints ... it is a little late now to do modifications
To be sincere I really hate to work from blueprints :) but I think I got the model close
here is a screenshot from the left view on top of the blueprints from your link

07 July 2003, 04:08 AM
i think the sky matches your hdri map pretty well.
07 July 2003, 08:55 AM

5 stars from me

That comparisson with the blueprint is very impressive! Well done!
I like your new render a lot too. The platform - especially the nets - looks very nice. It would be nice though to see a bit more detail in the sky. Some clouds perhaps? I like the feel of the scene a lot. Great use colours!
I noticed a few things on your model's materials that could be improved. The rotor looks very flat. A satin finish would be more accurate. On the other hand, the black panel behind the exhaust pipe is way too glossy. This area should be completely flat of the exhaust stains. Also, exhaust stains often extend beyond the black patch.
But that's me nitpicking! Great work again!
O yeah, add your image here too, to keep this great thread alive :)
PS. Try some flying shots. You can get reasonable results with standard motionblur. Or else, replace the rotor with a bitmap. This difference will be very hard to notice! :)

07 July 2003, 11:26 PM
Wow!! Wooow!! Woooooooooooooowwww!!
5 stele de la bursuc!!
07 July 2003, 11:57 PM
Skyraider3D, thanks for the suggestions , I've made the flying shot .. it is not appealing as the last one I guess
07 July 2003, 12:32 AM
Not bad at all, though it looks like a model on a wire.
Perhaps try a perspective from the bottom? Or a smaller angle lens.
Also try to make the motionblur a bit heavier on the rotors and especially the tail rotor (which rotates much faster). Use photographs as a reference for comparing main rotor and tail rotor speed. You'll probably need to use a texture for the tail rotor.
PS. A sky background on the previous render might work a treat too ;)
07 July 2003, 12:35 AM
I really like the last one on the helipad  The flying render is nice too, just not as convincing
07 July 2003, 12:53 AM
First class work!
07 July 2003, 03:33 AM
OMG,without blueprint...this is great!!i've used to model a sea king before(2 years ago) ..this is waaay to cool from what i've done that time....i salut you!nice work....:applause: :buttrock:
*Here in Malaysia,it is also known as 'Nuri' - we have a few of those and some crashes with it too.
07 July 2003, 04:15 AM
very nice model !:)
07 July 2003, 04:36 AM
Undoz! good work here. very impressive.
One tiny question.
Do you think you'll ever update your Countach for Racer? :D
07 July 2003, 05:02 AM
Ditto to what everyone else said. Very nice, the flying shot can be improved with more blur on the rotors. Thunderbirds are go! :scream: :applause:
07 July 2003, 05:26 AM
Angel O'Death , check the cars - wip in racer section from race sim central
07 July 2003, 09:26 AM
probleum with the shadow! fix it :shame:
07 July 2003, 09:42 AM
sweet, really nice looking model:thumbsup:
07 July 2003, 10:35 PM
Great work undoz:buttrock:
This was well worth a plug, but unfortunately didn't get any..
07 July 2003, 12:36 AM
very nice, has the 'real' feeling that is so often lacking. with a better compositing shot and some appropriate 'graining' or whatever, it could achieve photoreailty
Great work undoz.. the helipad render is excellent.
07 July 2003, 02:11 AM
Any chance you might do a "walkaround" animation?
