For the reference I had some crappy photos and I extracted the proportions from them. I had a bigger problem making the details because the resolution of the pics was really bad.

Yes, I'm planning to do a composite and I'll post it here when is done.

That's a beautiful couple of renders there man. I can just imagine it parked on the helipad of a ship, in the sunset.

Ohh! Killer job. You've got to stick this on a carrier deck now, or maybe hovering about 4 feet off the deck. Very, very good job especially w/o plans/

like how you lit the scene, and if you used any other renderers....cuz this is a great looking render

I've used vray for rendering
In the last image the lighting is made only from the hdri (you can download it from here: http://www.sachform.de/download.asp )
The material is made using fresnel reflection with some masks and the color is made by blending, within a falloff map, the same texture but with some hue, brightness and saturation modifications using the color correct plugin.

Textures are surprisingly simple - but they work! :)

It's not hard to find blueprints of the SeaKing though. If you're curious to see how accurate your model is, try matching it against this one (http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/sh3.html)! :)
Overal it looks very close. The shape of the nose seems to be a bit different though. Could you perhaps render a sideview?

In any case, great job! You definately captured the looks of a Sea King! :thumbsup:

Hi Undoz,

That comparisson with the blueprint is very impressive! Well done!

I like your new render a lot too. The platform - especially the nets - looks very nice. It would be nice though to see a bit more detail in the sky. Some clouds perhaps? I like the feel of the scene a lot. Great use colours!

I noticed a few things on your model's materials that could be improved. The rotor looks very flat. A satin finish would be more accurate. On the other hand, the black panel behind the exhaust pipe is way too glossy. This area should be completely flat of the exhaust stains. Also, exhaust stains often extend beyond the black patch.
But that's me nitpicking! Great work again! :thumbsup:

O yeah, add your image here too, to keep this great thread alive :)

PS. Try some flying shots. You can get reasonable results with standard motionblur. Or else, replace the rotor with a bitmap. This difference will be very hard to notice! :)

Not bad at all, though it looks like a model on a wire.
Perhaps try a perspective from the bottom? Or a smaller angle lens.
Also try to make the motionblur a bit heavier on the rotors and especially the tail rotor (which rotates much faster). Use photographs as a reference for comparing main rotor and tail rotor speed. You'll probably need to use a texture for the tail rotor.

PS. A sky background on the previous render might work a treat too ;)

very nice, has the 'real' feeling that is so often lacking. with a better compositing shot and some appropriate 'graining' or whatever, it could achieve photoreailty
