View Full Version : Free FacialAnimation Setup for DL

07 July 2003, 12:41 PM
As the subject suggest, you can download here my first approach of setting up the facial Animation for the Head you see here:

The pic is taken out of my shortmovie I did for testing purposes and for learning animation, and also to see what should be improved when I have to setup a complete Character for easy, fast and intuitive animation.

If you have some nice results with him, please feel free to show me.

Download the HeadSetup (

And if you have critics that would help to improve the whole thing, please let me know :) .

Greetings from Berlin

PS: If you are able to understand german, you can also try out the Movie I did with him:

Jump to MovieSite (DL will be at the bottom of the screen then) (

PS2: I will only be able to answer to the thread or to mail weekly :(

wow that looks cool, would be even cooler if i got it to work. I mean i got most of the controls to work but i feel like there must be a control or a UI to control everything. I have no idea how u've done some stuff but would be awesome if u could throw in a UI for us to check out and talk a bit on ur setup. Cheers.

Wow this is great!

The UI just popped up for me, when I opened the file. My only question is how do I get it to appear again, if I close it?

Amazing Rig! Thanks!

Interpretation of the tutorial in English, sort of...

By the way, what is your full name, so we can give you credit if we use your model?

how did u get the UI to pop up? Or what does the UI look like?

I just opened the file, and there it was...

This looks like an interesting rig, but I don't believe it works with Maya 5. The procedure that calls the custom UI is called "headControlWindow", but it does not work. The MEL script must not be compatible with Maya 5.

I get an error when I load the file:

Error: ...-psc "if(`tabLayout -q -st hc_tabs` == \"hc_front\"){ window -e -h 175 -w 910 headControlWindow;initLipControl(0);} else if(`t
Error: Line 1251.347: Unterminated string.

i get the same error, are we missing a mel script or something Byron. I really like this setup and would like to see more.

Hey that tut is half english and half German can you get one that is all English.:annoyed:

For some reason this site wont let me link to the translation through the forum, but it will translate the full page. Just put the original web address in there and have at it :)

this is great. would be even better if i could get a copy of the mel script that creates the ui

I agree...

You should be able to grab the MEL script right out of the Maya scene file itself. That's what I did.

Unfortunately, if the script doesnt work with Maya doesn't work. So having the source code is useless to me.

Sorry that my reply took so long, but I can go online only weekly :(.

Please see the new Thread for a
Maya5 Version of the "Kopp" :).
